Chapter 540: Chapter 540

’There was no need for him to take my hand away like that... he did nothing but greet me respectfully like everyone else would... now I feel embarrassed to even face him, Dad...’ — Marianne grumbled, frustrated for she would have wanted a little time to be spent only by her suitor’s side but was aware it would not be granted after the circumstances had been limited by the watch of their chaperons. Nevertheless, as she felt discouraged by these limitations, Marianne also felt bothered... for within herself and because of the constraints deep wishes kept urging her insides ones unmannered and lacking of delicacy that wanted to curse abundantly like she once did in a separate soul the present she now needed to put up with.

’What to do... this is so unbecoming and distasteful... there must be something we can do about it... curses...’ — She thought, getting lost in the trouble again and feeling odd at the curses she chose for they did not fulfil the need her insides searched to get even. — ’No... sh-sh*t?? Puff... it feels unbefitting... I miss having more freedom in my speech... darn it(?)’

At this last one, a bit of a nice sensation was gained, as if the curse was approved by this new self the chosen became. And a little speck of what used to be commenced in the silence of her mind. Losing concentration as to what could fit her tastes better.

’No... it is still soft of a curse. It does not feel right to use those unhinged I used to spit at Paul before. Bloody hell. Such a freak he is, hope he eats sh*t back in the hole he’s in. F*cking psycho, c*nt, ugly tw*t of a $#*&@, *s&&#+@...’

"Marianne, sweetie why are you suddenly frowning??" — Orland who was leading her into the hall asked after inviting the assistants to follow them inside.

’! H-huh??’

"Did someone disrespect you?"

’N-No!’ — Shaking her head stunned by her own thoughts, Marianne felt pale while also feeling sorry to have such bad mouthed vocabulary. Lowering her head as she walked slowly by the arm of her father, being sincere although he was not to hear it. — ’If anything... I apologize for it is I that is disrespectful Dad... gosh it is good I have to remain quiet... If you had listened to that... goodness...’

"Hmm... if anyone dares, remember not to lower yourself to their level." — He smiled as he leaned to whisper to his daughter, unconvinced by the answer yet hoping to encourage her not to lose face before anyone. Mischievous... almost letting her know with the depth of their shared grey eyes how he would be expectant to see the one who dared fall in shame by her grace.

’... hahaha... should I take that as your permission to make a disaster? You should be more careful with what I could understand from your words, Dad ~’

Consequent to his mischief, Marianne’s smirk appeared adorable while imagining what could be ignited were she to take it seriously and her father chuckled. Touching lightly the nose of the girl with playful care before stopping their walk.

"That is the liveliness I hope to see in my dear bird today." — Affectionately, he said. Turning around to face their guests. — "If you all may, we have prepared many delicacies for you to enjoy this evening. For the ladies, please enjoy of the..." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The duke had informed of the activities prepared. Separating some guests from others as there were different interests when it came to conversations. For the ladies and so a better relationship could grow, it was a tea party that they were now to enjoy while the men would converse in the company of wine. It was a brief separation yet enough to let the guests take a tour around the building after sharing some relaxation, especially between ladies whose company was the most appreciated as the duke wanted his daughter to find friendship in at least one or two of them.

Therefore, once taking their seats, little conversations began as the women talked to each other, crafting new bonds and learning new matters.

"Is the Ninth’s mother, the duchess, coming today? I hope she is fairing well as I am certain she would not miss her precious daughter’s birthday celebration." — One of the women said with curious ignorance after the warmth of those at the table gave her the confidence to ask. Meeting Marianne’s eye to only receive a modest nod of her crown. Noticing with such elegance that nothing else should be inquired about it. — "Um... Even so, w-whatever the reason it is, we are certainly eager to make the lady enjoy the evening. With such marvellous ambience, it is a must!"

"Y-yes we have the duty to do so as fellow women as well, haha."

Sorry to apparently lower the Ninth’s spirits the other young ladies said hoping to fix their unintended rudeness, finding ease as Marianne remained noble while thoughts different to those they believed behind her smile crossed the lady’s mind.

’Certainly, she would not miss her ’precious daughter’s’ birthday... hopefully, she will get to celebrate it with her if lucky.’ — With sarcasm, she sighed while thinking of Theressa. Knowing fully that if it was for her, Elenaide would not show up... at least not willingly. — ’Even so... it is wonderful she did not attend... otherwise my energy would have left my body the moment I set foot here. I should thank her later, it must not be easy to fight alone since I, as her opponent, do not care at all...’

"I must say... if I am allowed to..."

’Oh... So it is with this that she decided to talk...’ — Taking her teacup away as she heard the voice, Marianne’s sharpness and cold thoughts strengthened. Looking towards the woman, her attention has been caught from as soon as greetings were made today.

Refined and quiet, she had blended nicely between the assistants, yet her greeting came like any other... and was as gentle as she recalled it from their meeting at the ball... looking as innocent and as considerate...

’I was wondering when you would finally join the conversation.’
