Chapter 423: Chapter 423: The Owens Family Comes to Negotiate

Not long after May Morgan was sent to the hospital, Victor Grant’s phone was almost exploding with calls. Vincent Vance had gone to the Grant Family alone, so facing so many of Victor’s subordinates, he was powerless. He had no choice but to call Oscar Owens, informing him that Adam Owens was in Victor Grant’s hands.

Oscar Owens treasured his son greatly. Upon hearing that Adam Owens was with Victor Grant and had been beaten badly, he was instantly frantic. However, given Victor Grant’s temperament and influence, Oscar still hoped to resolve the matter peacefully.

Victor Grant anticipated that Vincent Vance would notify Oscar Owens, so he answered the phone with a casual demeanor, "Mr. Owens, how can I help you?"

Over the phone, Oscar Owens could tell Victor Grant’s tone was dismissive, which infuriated him. He yelled repeatedly at Victor Grant, "Victor Grant, what’s the meaning of this? Why is my son being detained by you without my consent?"

Victor Grant leaned back in his chair, chuckling coldly, and retorted to Oscar Owens, "Why? You tell me why. When your son stabbed my parents, I also wanted to ask you ’why’."

"Well... that still doesn’t justify your use of private punishment. Why didn’t you hand Adam Owens over to the police? Why beat my son like that?"

"Why? Because I’m angry. Because your son attacked my old man, so I demand a blood debt to be repaid with blood. What? Not satisfied? Go ahead, call the police, I’ll gladly wait!"

Victor Grant had an even worse temper than Oscar Owens. Hearing Oscar Owens’ threatening tone only fueled his anger further, making him more reluctant to release Adam Owens.

Damn it, if I don’t show you my power today, I’m not a Grant.

Oscar Owens was genuinely afraid to call the police, fearful that once reported, Victor Grant might commit murder on impulse to silence witnesses. What then?

Thinking it over, Oscar Owens temporarily suppressed his fury, striving to peacefully negotiate with Victor Grant, "Victor Grant, I know Adam was wrong to stab your parents, but there’s a reason behind it. My son isn’t the type to grab a knife and kill for no reason. He holds no grudge against your parents, so why would he do such a thing suddenly?"

"Yeah, I’m puzzled too. So I routinely questioned him. Who knew his constitution was so feeble, couldn’t handle a scare. I only yelled at him twice and he fainted from fright." Victor Grant deliberately played dumb with Oscar Owens.

Oscar Owens was fuming. Vincent Vance had already sent him Adam Owens’ photo, and he knew how miserable Adam Owens looked. There was no way it was just like Victor Grant said—yelling twice—that was outright violence.

"Victor Grant, stop being unreasonable. You know very well how badly you’ve beaten my son. I advise you to quickly send Adam Owens to the hospital for treatment; then we can negotiate calmly, or else..."

"Or else what? Bite me? Oscar Owens, let me tell you, don’t use that tone with me. Not just you Owens Family—add the Vance Family in, I’m not afraid. If you’re capable, come over and see who’s left at a loss!"

Victor Grant couldn’t be bothered to argue with someone like Oscar Owens, promptly hanging up the call.

Barely had he hung up on Oscar Owens, when May Morgan was wheeled out from the monitoring room. Seeing this, Victor Grant hurriedly stood up from his chair and stepped over quickly.

"Doctor, how is she doing?"

Victor Grant lowered his gaze to the unconscious May Morgan lying on the hospital bed, asking worriedly.

All tests were completed; May Morgan’s internal organs were fine, but it would take a bit more time for the blood results to be out, so no definitive conclusion could be drawn yet.

"The patient is still alright; there are no issues with her internal organs and bones. From external observation, no abnormalities are apparent either. Once the blood results come out, we’ll evaluate further."

Upon hearing this, the doubts within Victor Grant’s heart did not immediately disappear. Vincent Vance had told him that the issue lay in May Morgan’s blood, which was peculiar. Not only were the white blood cells abnormally high, but there were also strange elements within it. So before the blood results are out, everything remains unknown.

Victor Grant sighed lightly, personally pushing May Morgan towards the prepared hospital room.

Since May Morgan was brought to the hospital, she had passed out until now without waking. Although she had fainted before, it hadn’t lasted this long. This time, Victor Grant was extremely anxious, worried she might never wake up.

After settling May Morgan into a standard hospital room, Victor Grant urgently called a servant from home to take care of her. His father was still in the intensive care unit, and his mother was also hospitalized. He needed to manage three places simultaneously, which was truly strenuous.

But no matter how strenuous, just knowing that May Morgan was still by his side, hadn’t left nor gotten lost, made him feel assured.

Gripping May Morgan’s fingers tightly, Victor Grant solemnly vowed to her in a low voice, "May, after I deal with the family matters, I’ll do everything to help you remove the Dragon Insect inside you, to make you a normal girl, for sure!"

Having just settled May Morgan, Victor Grant’s phone rang yet again, this time it was Vincent Vance’s call. Oscar Owens couldn’t convince Victor Grant, so he had no choice but to reach out to Vincent Vance. After their discussion, Vincent Vance decided to talk to Victor Grant.

"Victor Grant, where are you? Can we talk?"

Everyone was anxious about rescuing Adam Owens. But despite the urgency, they had to gauge Victor Grant’s mood. They also had a plan; if Victor Grant conceded, it would be fine. If not, he wouldn’t mind teaming up with the Owens Family against Victor Grant.

They couldn’t just watch Adam Owens’ life slip away. Although Vincent Vance was often critical of Adam Owens’ behavior, he was, after all, Maxwell Vance’s husband, and Maxwell was carrying his child. He couldn’t allow the child to be born without a father.

Victor Grant was frantically busy, having no time to talk with Vincent Vance. Besides, what could they talk about, except how to release Adam Owens?

"Sorry, I don’t have time to talk to you. Want me to release Adam Owens? Sure, as I said, deliver your sister, that slut, to me for disposition, and I’ll release Adam Owens. Otherwise, you guys can start preparing for Adam’s funeral!"

Disdainfully snorting, Victor Grant hung up Vincent Vance’s call.

But barely had he hung up when Oscar Owens’ call came through again, unable to hold back, "Victor Grant, just what do you want to release my son?"

Thinking Oscar Owens hadn’t understood, Victor Grant impatiently repeated himself, "Don’t understand? I demand a life for a life. Want me to release Adam Owens? Then throw that slut, Maxwell Vance, to me for disposition, otherwise, I’ll slaughter your son right now. You believe that?"

Hearing Victor Grant suddenly want Maxwell Vance in exchange for Adam Owens, Oscar Owens was caught off guard and quickly questioned puzzledly, "What do you want with Maxwell Vance?"

Victor Grant was taken aback, hearing Oscar Owens’ tone and guessing that Vincent Vance likely hadn’t dared to tell him the truth. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be asking such a question.
