TL: Etude

The Forbidden Ancient Well.

Inside, the space was vast, shrouded in silence and darkness. Strands of forbidden rules intertwined within the void, as if weaving something unfathomable.

Countless True Ancestors had entered this space, but it did not feel crowded at all. Each of them seemed like a mere droplet merging into a vast ocean.

Ye Tian entered the inner realm of the Forbidden Ancient Well, noting that its environment was quite suitable for cultivating the Forbidden Body. While it wasn’t as effective as cultivating with the Forbidden Black Lotus, it was superior to the effects of the Nine Nether Forbidden Pool.

After all, the Nine Nether Forbidden Pool was primarily a treasure for enhancing cultivation, offering limited assistance for cultivating the Forbidden Body. The Forbidden Ancient Well, however, was a naturally-formed forbidden land, capable of aiding the cultivation of the Forbidden Body.

Nevertheless, Ye Tian’s goal was still the forbidden treasures within. Simply cultivating here for tens or hundreds of thousands of years wouldn’t offer significant benefits.

Soon, the True Ancestors noticed that the inner space of the Forbidden Ancient Well was heavily distorted. Spiritual senses and investigative techniques were severely impacted, making it nearly impossible to explore any significant distance.

The inner space of the Forbidden Ancient Well bore a strong resemblance to the Dark Forbidden Domain. At the outskirts, the forbidden power wasn’t particularly dense, but the deeper regions were terrifyingly potent and increasingly dangerous.

Without sufficient strength, one should avoid venturing into the inner area of the Forbidden Ancient Well, as it would be all too easy to perish there.

Some of the weaker True Ancestors chose to search for forbidden treasures and fortunes at the outskirts, while the more powerful True Ancestors flew toward the inner region. They knew that lingering in the outer spaces would be a waste of time, so they hastened toward the inner depths.

At this point, only top-tier True Ancestors dared to enter the inner space;few elite True Ancestors had the courage to do so.

Ye Tian separated from General Bloodfiend and the others, as it would be troublesome to divide any forbidden treasures discovered.

Inside the Inner Space.

Ye Tian continued flying. Suddenly, faint sounds reached his ears—almost like the plucking of strings or whispers close by.

“An illusion,” he murmured.

Such occurrences were common in the Dark Forbidden Domain. It was best to ignore them, as obsessing over these illusions could easily trap one within them.

Suddenly, he spotted a woman’s figure. She danced gracefully atop a lotus, her movements alluring.

However, Ye Tian didn’t focus on her figure. His gaze fell upon the lotus beneath her.

The lotus was black-gold in color, growing on a small lake on a patch of black earth. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

In the Forbidden Ancient Well, there were patches of land, water, and sparse trees. Yet, the vast majority of it was empty void. This small patch of black earth held a single treasure—the lotus.

As for the woman, she was not truly there. Ye Tian’s Copy Talent failed to detect her presence.

“So, another illusion… It’s almost too real. Without the Copy Talent, I might have mistaken it for reality,” he murmured.

While he could see through the woman’s true nature, others might not. Some could perhaps sense something amiss, recognizing that a normal person would never appear in the Forbidden Ancient Well. However, anyone drawn to her could find themselves in serious trouble.

“The records of Blackwind Mountain mentioned this. In the Dark Forbidden Domain, one must avoid provoking the illusions;otherwise, one could face unspeakable terrors. In extreme cases, even Domain Ancestors could fall.” Ye Tian pondered silently.

Should he pursue the forbidden treasure, despite the unknown danger? As he debated, in a distant area, a Pinnacle True Ancestor spotted a tree with a single fruit.

Yet beneath the tree coiled a black snake. The Pinnacle True Ancestor recognized that the fruit was a forbidden treasure and paused, preparing to pluck it and leave quickly.

However, the black serpent blocked his way.

The Pinnacle True Ancestor struck at the serpent, and then something terrifying happened.

Just then, the black serpent vanished, transforming into a wisp of energy that infiltrated the body of the Pinnacle True Ancestor.

Moments later, black streaks appeared all over the True Ancestor’s body, and his consciousness began to dissolve.

In less than ten minutes, he had turned into a black statue, his vitality utterly extinguished.

Thus, a Pinnacle True Ancestor fell, perishing in this space!

“I’ll still take this lotus-like forbidden treasure!” Ye Tian muttered.

Actually, the records of Blackwind Mountain also described a method: one could lure out the Great Terror by using a decoy or an enemy’s body. This would prevent any immediate threat from the Great Terror for a brief period.

While this would sacrifice a strong cultivator, it was deemed worthwhile given the value of a forbidden treasure.

Ye Tian had two options: capture a True Ancestor to draw out the Great Terror, or use one of his own duplicated bodies to test it.

In the end, he decided to send forth a duplicate of himself as the decoy.

With a flicker, the duplicate appeared and began moving toward the lotus.

The illusory woman turned to look at Ye Tian, and waves of terrifying energy surged forth. Ye Tian controlled his duplicate to make the first move.

With just a single slash of saber qi, the woman shattered instantly.

In the next moment, black rules manifested, bypassing Ye Tian’s defenses and infiltrating his body.

Unfathomable dread and surreal illusions flooded his senses.

Ye Tian could feel this body being transformed, as if it were being assimilated into some other form.

“Begone!”

Ye Tian erupted with the full force of an Invincible True Ancestor, channeling his strength as a True Ancestor to counter the Great Terror, even summoning the Forbidden Body for aid.

To his surprise, the Forbidden Body proved highly effective against this terrifying force. Within minutes, he crushed the black rules completely.

The duplicate passed through the Great Terror unscathed, avoiding death.

With the danger gone, Ye Tian calmly plucked the lotus.

Upon inspection, he roughly gauged the treasure’s value.

“It’s a mid-tier forbidden wondrous object!” he muttered.

Forbidden treasures were classified as either forbidden wondrous objects or Forbidden Supreme Treasures. Forbidden wondrous objects were further divided into Low, Mid, High, and Top. Only above that was Forbidden Supreme Treasure.

Generally, when people referred to “forbidden treasures,” they were talking about forbidden wondrous objects. In the Dark Forbidden Domain, each forbidden object was rare and highly valuable—almost none were useless.

Ye Tian’s Forbidden Black Lotus was actually a high-tier forbidden wondrous object of considerable worth.

Who would have thought that so shortly after entering the Forbidden Ancient Well, he would gain a mid-tier forbidden wondrous object?

Smiling faintly, Ye Tian stowed away the treasure and left.

In the days that followed, many True Ancestors obtained forbidden wondrous objects, but many also fell to various manifestations of the Great Terror.

Gradually, several True Ancestors devised a method for facing the Great Terror—by sacrificing other True Ancestors.

As a result, weaker True Ancestors found themselves in dire straits.

Conflicts erupted between factions, with skirmishes breaking out on sight, and many True Ancestors perished within the Forbidden Ancient Well.

Half a month flew by.

By this time, Ye Tian had gathered dozens of forbidden wondrous objects, mostly of the low tier, but he had also obtained one high-tier forbidden wondrous object.

He hadn’t found this high-tier treasure himself;rather, he acquired it from another True Ancestor.

The True Ancestor had been preparing to attack a Peak Lord of Blackwind Mountain when Ye Tian arrived, swiftly killed him, and discovered the high-tier treasure in his possession.

With so many True Ancestors pouring into the Forbidden Ancient Well and so many days having passed, the quantity of forbidden wondrous objects was dwindling. Some could even say there were scarcely any left.

In fact, Ye Tian had found little of value over the past two days.

Suddenly, a message came from General Bloodfiend: “General Nine Limits, Sword Sovereign Changfeng of the Heavenly Sword Sect has obtained a Forbidden Supreme Treasure and is fleeing the Forbidden Ancient Well!”

“What? A Forbidden Supreme Treasure!” Ye Tian exclaimed.

The worth of a Forbidden Supreme Treasure far exceeded that of any forbidden wondrous object. A single low-tier Forbidden Supreme Treasure was easily as valuable as dozens of top-tier forbidden wondrous objects. Ye Tian hadn’t even come across a top-tier wondrous object, illustrating how rare they were.

Yet, Sword Sovereign Changfeng had managed to acquire a Forbidden Supreme Treasure. Such luck! It was as if he were the favored child of destiny for the entire Profound Void Ancient Realm! But Ye Tian also knew that if Changfeng had obtained a Forbidden Supreme Treasure without being discovered, it would have been true fortune. However, having been seen, he now faced catastrophe.

Right now, numerous Invincible True Ancestors would undoubtedly pursue him.

A Forbidden Supreme Treasure’s worth was so immense that, in critical moments, even slumbering Dao Ancestors might go to great lengths to awaken and forcibly seize it.

“I wonder if this Forbidden Supreme Treasure might be enough to draw out the mastermind behind the destruction of the Heavenly Spirit Sect…”

Ye Tian murmured thoughtfully.

I’m guessing the Great Terror refers to the illusions that guard the treasures.
