Chapter 147: Chapter 147- A foreign trade department

Dave looked at her and said,

"The noodles earlier were really good, but I think they were still far worse than what you make."

Laurent thought he was just rambling,

"I’m leaving."

She threw those words at him and quickly entered the building. Dave watched her retreating figure, smiled with a raised corner of his lips, and then got in his car and left.

Let him chase after her slowly, giving her time and space to reaccept him.

As soon as Laurent entered her home, she received a call from Leonardo. On the other end, he was angrily questioning her,

"Laurent, what’s going through your head every day? You agreed to cooperate with Dave and act like a couple—are you trying to get back together with him? Haven’t you suffered enough already?"

It was clear that Leonardo was very angry, and his shouting through the phone made Laurent’s ears ring.

Laurent knew that Vivian must have told Leonardo about this.

As a hotshot actor in the past few years, Leonardo had hardly any time off, working almost every day throughout the year.

Everyone knew that in the entertainment industry, whether male or female stars, they were only as good as their youth. They had to work tirelessly during their peak to release more works, build a bigger reputation, and accumulate popularity because no one knew when they would fade out of the spotlight.

So after finishing an overseas shoot a while ago, Leonardo had come back to rest for a few days before diving back into work. After Vivian’s son’s 100-day celebration, he went straight to the set.

Therefore, faced with Laurent making this decision, the only thing he could do was question her over the phone. If he could, he really wanted to rush to her and shake her awake.

"I don’t want to explain anything."

Laurent knew that explaining anything wouldn’t help. They had no idea how desperately she wanted to get rid of Dave. Right now, all she was hoping for was that once this whole situation was over, she could draw a clear line between herself and him.

Once everything was settled, and they came to question her, it wouldn’t matter. Only then would they understand how resolute she was in cutting ties with Dave.

Leonardo, already angry, hung up the phone when he heard her attitude.

For Leonardo, learning that she was entangled with Dave again brought feelings of anger, frustration, and helplessness.

He thought that after being hurt once, she would become wiser, but it seemed she was still as foolish as before.

However, as he complained about her foolishness, he suddenly became aware—wasn’t he being foolish himself?

All these years, he had never stopped thinking about her. Wasn’t that foolish too?

In love, everyone is a fool.

It’s because they’ve truly given of themselves that they become obsessed, that they hold on, that they can’t let go.

After finishing a task, Dave asked his secretary to summon the company’s executives to the top floor for a meeting.

The executives were confused about the sudden meeting, thinking something important must have happened.

But after everyone was seated, Dave, who was at the head of the table, fell silent for a moment before asking them,

"What do you think about establishing a foreign trade department for Washington?"

A foreign trade department?

Several executives exchanged glances, not understanding why Dave suddenly wanted to set up such a department.

One of the executives spoke up,

"Washington has always focused on finance as its main business. Although we have branched into other areas in recent years, foreign trade really doesn’t align with our core business..."

The implication was that they didn’t agree with establishing a foreign trade department. Dave’s expression darkened.

Another executive chimed in,

"The foreign trade situation has been very tough in recent years. A large number of factories have closed down, and the exchange rates are constantly fluctuating. Getting involved in trade at this time is not a wise decision."

Dave’s face grew even darker. The executive who had said it wasn’t a wise decision wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Alright, he was just offering a cautious suggestion.

With these two executives speaking up, the others began to discuss the matter as well.

But after a few exchanges, Dave couldn’t bear it anymore because most of their opinions were against establishing a foreign trade department.

Annoyed, he coldly declared,

"I’ve already made up my mind. As of today, we will establish the foreign trade department. And don’t worry about finding the right person to lead it. I will personally take on the role of manager for the department."

Then, he turned to the HR manager and gave a firm order,

"Recruit someone immediately."

With that, he stood up, flicked his sleeves, and left.

The senior executives were left hanging, frustrated but helpless.

One of them spread his hands and said,

"If he had already made up his mind, why bother consulting us? He never listens to our opinions anyway." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The others also expressed their dissatisfaction with Dave’s autocratic behavior. However, there were still those who supported him.

"He is capable. If he made this decision, he must have his reasons. Let’s just wait and see his results."

Little did they know, if they discovered that Dave established the foreign trade department solely to recruit Laurent, they would probably lose their minds.

After announcing the establishment of the trade department, Dave returned to his office and resumed his work.

In the afternoon, his secretary came in to deliver his coffee. Instead of leaving immediately, she hesitated.

Dave glanced at her.

"Something wrong?"

Having worked with him for many years, the secretary finally spoke up under his questioning.

"Lord Washington, the employees are all complaining. The workload today is too intense—we can’t keep up with your pace..."

Dave took a sip of his coffee.

"Today’s workload is intense?"

The secretary nodded vigorously.

"Since this morning, from the moment you sat down in your office until now, you’ve been issuing so many tasks and orders that many colleagues didn’t even have time for lunch. They’ve been working non-stop, and now they’re about to collapse from exhaustion..."

She was here to plead for mercy on behalf of her overworked colleagues.
