Chapter 152: Chapter 152-What the hell are you doing?!

Although she had never been involved in his company’s affairs all these years, Laurent still knew a little about Washington Group. It was a company with a strong financial focus—foreign trade? As far as she knew, they had never ventured into that field.

"You don’t need to worry about that," Dave said casually. "I can assure you it’s a well-established trade environment. You just need to tell me whether you’re willing to make the switch."

The way he put it made Laurent feel he was being completely unreasonable. She turned to him and asked,

"Do you really think I can?"

She was already doing everything she could to avoid him—how could she possibly transfer to Washington Group and work right under his nose?

"Why not?"

Everything Dave did was for her.

"Working at Washington Group is far better than staying in that small factory. We can provide you with a better work environment and greater career opportunities."

"I have no work experience in this field at all. If I just waltz into Washington Group, aren’t you afraid people will talk?"

Laurent continued,

"Besides, even if Washington Group offers me more room for growth, I’d need actual skills before I can even think about developing my career there."

In other words, she had no intention of joining Washington Group. She would stay at the factory, at the very bottom, to build the strongest foundation for herself.

If she wanted to soar high, she first needed to grow strong wings.

Dave was frustrated.

"If you come to Washington Group, you’ll receive the best training. I’ll personally hire the most experienced foreign trade professionals to teach you. Wouldn’t that be better than exhausting yourself trying to learn everything on your own in that factory?"

At this point, Laurent had more or less figured out why he was so determined to bring her to Washington Group—he wanted to use his influence to help her grow.

But to Laurent, his actions felt almost insulting.

She saw his attempt to fast-track her progress as a dismissal of her determination to be independent. It was also a sign that he underestimated her passion for this job.

He kept saying he loved her, but when had he ever truly considered things from her perspective?

If she accepted his offer and joined Washington Group, what would all her hard work over the past month mean?

So, she simply replied coldly,

"Dave, just because you think something is right doesn’t mean it actually is."

Then, she turned and got out of the car.

Dave had genuinely wanted to provide her with a better work environment, never expecting that it would only make her angry.

He quickly got out and caught up with her, reaching out to block her path.

"If you don’t want to come, then don’t. But why get so upset?"

Laurent didn’t want to talk to him. He didn’t understand her at all. Even if she explained why she was angry, he probably wouldn’t get it.

What he was doing wasn’t helping her—it was making her feel disrespected.

A man as domineering as him would never realize that. He always expected everyone to follow his will—when had he ever cared about anyone else’s feelings?

But this wasn’t the right place for Laurent to argue with him, so she had no choice but to suppress her frustration and instead said,

"It’s almost time. Let’s head inside."

With her cold gaze complementing her glamorous makeup, she made Dave feel an unexpected sense of disappointment.

He had gone against all opposition to establish the foreign trade department, all so she could have a better path forward, a better work environment.

She spent her days buried in that factory, working overtime, exhausting herself, and losing weight. He didn’t want her staying there a single day longer.

But he also knew this wasn’t the time or place to continue discussing the matter. The more they talked, the worse it would get, ruining the mood for tonight’s banquet.

So, he swallowed his frustration and said nothing more. Instead, he stepped forward, took her hand, and walked toward the hotel with her.

Since the Browns were attending tonight, and they had agreed to put on a show, Laurent had no choice but to let him hold her hand.

The feeling was unfamiliar.

In the past, she was always the one to reach for him first, slipping her hand into his palm, waiting for him to accept it.

This time, he was the one holding her hand. She wasn’t sure how she felt about it. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Behind them, Morrison’s car slowly approached. From a distance, he saw Dave talking to a woman in black, then taking her hand as they entered the hotel together.

Because of the distance, Morrison couldn’t see the woman’s face clearly—only that she was stunningly beautiful. And it infuriated him.

After parking, he immediately pulled out his phone and called Dave, his voice sharp with anger.

"Dave, what the hell are you doing? So many people are helping you put on this whole act just so you can win Laurent back, and this is what you do?"

Just as Dave and Laurent stepped into the hotel lobby, he received a call from Morrison. Before he could even say a word, Morrison launched into an angry tirade.

"What the hell are you doing?!"

Dave was completely baffled.

"What did I do?"

Morrison was furious.

"Aren’t you supposed to be bringing Laurent to the banquet tonight? Take a good look at who you actually brought!"

"I mean, seriously, what is going on in that head of yours? Weren’t you the one acting like you’d die if you couldn’t win Laurent back? And now, just like that, you’ve got another woman? Even I have to admit, your speed is impressive!"

Hearing this, Dave instantly understood—Morrison hadn’t recognized Laurent. Not that he could blame him. Even Dave himself had almost failed to recognize her.

So, he simply replied,

"I’ll be waiting for you in the lobby."

Then he hung up. Once Morrison arrived and saw her up close, all misunderstandings would naturally be cleared up.

Morrison, however, was still fuming. If Dave didn’t explain who that woman was, he swore he wouldn’t attend the banquet tonight.

But before he could say anything else, Dave had already hung up. That only made Morrison angrier. He slammed his car door shut and stormed toward the hotel lobby.

He was dying to see which vixen had managed to seduce Dave at lightning speed!

And if possible, he’d make sure to deal with this fox himself, ensuring she’d never have a place in Burg Eltz again!

Fuming, Morrison stormed into the lobby and shouted unceremoniously,

"Dave!"
