You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 201- it was fate
Laurent drove her car into the restaurant parking lot, ready to head to Tiffany’s, when she received a call from Tiffany.
On the phone, Tiffany told her,
"Dave just came by and took Emma. He said he’s waiting for you at the highway exit on your way home. There are reporters everywhere here right now." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Upon hearing this, Laurent couldn’t help but feel a strange touch of warmth in her heart.
How could she have forgotten that, since the reporters had already uncovered her private life, they would certainly be waiting for her and Tiffany? Dave must have known she was going to pick up her daughter, so to help her avoid the reporters, he’d taken Emma with him to leave first and create a peaceful, undisturbed environment for her and Emma...
Despite the fact that they had parted on bad terms the night before, both upset with each other, he was still thinking of her in this way...
After saying goodbye to Tiffany, Laurent hung up the phone and drove away.
Several cars followed her, but when they saw she was heading straight for the highway out of Burg Eltz, they lost interest and stopped pursuing. Before reaching the highway entrance, she had finally shaken off the reporters.
At the open space before the highway entrance, Laurent spotted Dave’s car parked from a distance.
She drove over and parked beside it, but didn’t get out of the car. The reason she didn’t immediately step out was because, for a moment, she didn’t know how to face Dave.
She had tried time and time again to draw a clear line between them, but he silently and persistently infiltrated her life, and always in such a gentle and considerate manner.
She felt a little at a loss; he had never been this good to her before.
She didn’t know whether to accept or refuse, and she didn’t know how sincere he really was. She also didn’t know if they started over, how long their relationship could last.
If another five years ended in another breakup, she felt like her life would be ruined for good.
She was afraid.
Afraid of being hurt again, because the pain from the last time had been enough. She didn’t have the courage to endure it again.
It wasn’t until the car door was knocked on that she snapped out of her thoughts. She turned and saw him holding their daughter in his arms. Their daughter was leaning on her car, calling out to her,
"Mommy—"
But the man holding their daughter had a blank expression on his face.
Laurent collected all her emotions and opened the car door to get out.
As soon as her daughter saw her, she reached out for a hug,
"Mommy, why didn’t you get out of the car?"
Laurent hugged her daughter gently and explained in a soft voice,
"Mommy was thinking about something."
After Laurent took her daughter in her arms, Dave turned and silently walked back to his car, opening the trunk to unload things. Since their daughter would be staying with her for a while, Dave was carrying all of her things—big bags and small bags.
Seeing this, Laurent also opened the trunk of her car. Dave silently moved the things from his car to hers. There was no conversation between them, just him moving the things quietly and Laurent silently holding her daughter and watching. The atmosphere was strange, yet strangely warm.
Laurent did glance at Dave’s face. He was keeping a serious expression, his face dark and stormy, clearly still angry.
Laurent huffed in her mind. She was still angry too.
After moving all their daughter’s things, Dave grabbed a bottle of fine wine. Laurent saw this and stopped him,
"You don’t need to bring this."
He kept his face cold,
"It’s from my mom to your parents."
Laurent had nothing to say. If it was Tiffany’s gesture, she couldn’t refuse it, nor should she refuse, especially since it was for her parents.
Once everything was unloaded and the trunk was closed, Laurent placed her daughter into the car’s backseat and strapped her into the child safety seat.
After closing the car door, she was about to say goodbye to Dave when he suddenly grabbed her arm and pressed her against the car. Laurent struggled, thinking they were at the highway entrance, and she really didn’t want to make the headlines again.
She thought Dave was going to say something, but he didn’t. He didn’t do anything. He just held her there, staring at her with deep eyes for a long moment, before letting her go and turning to walk back to his car. Laurent was left standing there, still frozen.
Was he out of his mind? What was that all about?
She opened the car door, got in, and drove off, heading toward the highway.
As she drove, she couldn’t help but replay the look in his eyes. It was full of... warning? A warning for her not to flirt with other men?
Laurent felt like Dave was driving her crazy. She had no idea what he was trying to do.
In the past, if rumors about her and Leonardo surfaced, Dave would have looked at her like he wanted to strangle her. But this time, he didn’t.
And when he grabbed her earlier, she thought he was about to say or do something, but he didn’t.
Maybe he used to like confronting her face to face, but now he’d learned to give her the silent treatment.
With that cold expression, he might as well have frozen her to death.
After the rumors about Laurent and Leonardo surfaced the night before, the person who suffered the most was undoubtedly Morrison.
Dave had invited him out for drinks and immediately started questioning him,
"So this is your idea of temporarily letting go for a better future?"
Now she’s been pushed straight into another man’s arms!
Morrison was embarrassed,
"Who could have predicted this would happen?"
He still believed his suggestion wasn’t wrong. At the time, Dave and Laurent really weren’t suited to continue being together. But as unpredictable as life was, just when Dave was planning to make his move, Laurent ended up on the front page with Leonardo. Morrison could understand Dave’s frustration.
But then again, maybe it was just fate.
Dave stayed silent, drinking his alcohol, while Morrison had no choice but to keep him company.
"So, what are you going to do now?"
"If I knew, why would I have asked you out?"
Dave responded gruffly.
Morrison huffed,
"I don’t know what to do either. I swear, you two are something else."
The last part Morrison muttered under his breath, and Dave, lost in his own emotions, didn’t catch what he said.
