You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 203- Cheap and tiresome.
Tiffany was well aware of everything that had happened between her son and Laurent during this time. Her son had been ready to pursue Laurent, but then Laurent ended up on the headlines with Leonardo, which made him angry. In his anger, he stopped contacting Laurent, and of course, Laurent wasn’t going to take the initiative to reach out to him either.
As an observer, Tiffany was also quite anxious, so she thought that she might as well use this opportunity for Laurent to thank her son and let them communicate with each other.
Since Tiffany had said that, Laurent couldn’t really argue and reluctantly agreed.
"Alright."
After ending the call with Tiffany, Laurent thought for a moment. Instead of calling Dave, she sent him a message:
"Thank you for letting Emma stay with me for the New Year." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
At that moment, Laurent felt that if she called him, she would only say thank you, and there wouldn’t be much else to talk about. Rather than enduring an awkward conversation, it seemed better to just send a text.
However, after waiting for a while, she didn’t get a reply. Laurent stood in front of the window, lost in thought for a while.
She should have been happy and excited that her daughter would be staying with her for the New Year, but for some reason, she felt inexplicably unsettled and weighed down.
Both loving and being loved made her nervous and uneasy. That was the most primal feeling she had inside.
She didn’t know why she felt this way. She just sensed, bit by bit, that Dave was indulging and pampering her, and it made her feel even more uneasy.
On the other end of the phone, Dave was at a social event. As the year was coming to an end, he had to deal with many business matters. When he received Laurent’s message, he glanced at it, and the smile in his eyes instantly faded, turning cold. He continued drinking with a certain CEO beside him, pushing the other man to the point of nearly collapsing. Only then did he finally get up.
Leaving the noisy banquet hall, he stepped into the quiet corridor alone, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it, taking one harsh drag after another.
The night wind was cold, and he was only wearing a thin shirt. But he didn’t feel the chill at all. No matter how cold it was, could it be colder than his heart?
A woman’s heart could truly be so ruthless and cold. He had compromised so much, yet she wouldn’t even make the effort to call him. A simple "thank you," and that was it.
The force with which he smoked grew stronger, using the cigarette as a way to vent his anger. But then he thought about how he had once neglected her. Did her heart, like his right now, feel full of resentment, hatred, frustration, and anger?
Thinking this way, his anger seemed to dissipate.
A strong scent of perfume interrupted the stillness around him. Dave squinted his eyes, facing the window, as a woman’s seductive voice broke the silence.
"Lord Washington..."
Dave subtly took a step back, then turned to look at the woman who had approached.
He had no idea who she was, nor had he paid any attention to her. The woman was wearing a bright red dress, her figure seductive, and her makeup bold and glamorous.
But at this moment, the only thing that flashed through Dave’s mind was: "Cheap and tiresome."
Raising an eyebrow, he looked at her coldly and asked indifferently,
"Is there something you need?"
Dave had seen plenty of women like this. Every time there was a social gathering, there were always those who threw themselves at him recklessly, thinking that their looks or their alluring figures would attract men. Or perhaps they thought that just like them, men were equally cheap, and as long as they made themselves available, the men would take what was offered.
Ever since the news of his divorce from Laurent had been exposed, even more women had thrown themselves at him.
Honestly, he couldn’t be bothered with them.
Not everyone could be Laurent, but unfortunately, these big-breasted, brainless women didn’t understand that.
The woman spoke in a seductive tone, her voice soft and sweet,
"Nothing’s wrong. I just thought it looked lonely, seeing Lord Washington smoking by himself."
Dave sneered but said nothing. The woman, encouraged by his silence, gathered her courage and spoke again,
"Do you mind if I borrow a light?"
As she spoke, the woman took a pack of ladies’ cigarettes from her purse, pulled one out, and placed it between her delicate fingers, leaning her alluring body closer to him.
Dave immediately lit the lighter and held it out in front of her. Just as her body was about to get too close,
The sudden burst of flame nearly singed her face, and the woman jumped back in shock, her face turning pale as she stumbled several steps backward.
Dave curled his lips into a polite smile,
"Didn’t you ask to borrow a light?"
At this point, the woman had no choice but to tremble as she stretched out her hand to take the flame and light her cigarette, not daring to bring her body or face anywhere near him.
Dave, satisfied, put the lighter away and casually tossed it into her hands, smiling in a charming yet teasing way,
"It’s yours."
Then, with his smile vanishing, he gave her a cold, indifferent look before turning around and walking away without a word.
The woman stood behind him, both frightened and bewildered, her hand shaking as she held the cigarette.
If she had hesitated even for a second just now, she might have had her hair singed or her face burned by the flame from his lighter. The thought of it made her feel a rush of fear.
He was so ruthless, rejecting a woman in such a cold and cruel way.
Now, everyone in Burg Eltz knew that Dave had divorced. As a result, the women of Burg Eltz were all doing everything they could to try and become his new companion. Moreover, with Dave’s many social engagements recently, the women had been trying to track his movements, appearing at every event he attended, all in hopes of catching his attention.
There had been rumors before that Dave wasn’t interested in women. They had assumed it was because he had a wife.
But now that he was divorced, why was he still so indifferent?
As a man in his prime, didn’t he have needs?
The woman couldn’t believe it.
Yet, his cold and cruel rejection had made her take a step back. She glanced down at the lighter in her hand and realized she no longer had the courage to approach him.
