You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 257- rejected
And it was precisely because they had gone through the step of divorce and realized that maintaining a marriage is not an easy task that they now cherish the happiness and stability they have even more.
As the gossiping female colleagues’ interest in Laurent waned, Laurent stepped out of the office and called Dave.
He directly asked on the other end,
"Did you get the flowers?"
"Yeah, they’re beautiful."
Laurent smiled softly at this end, pressing his lips together.
"Thank you."
Dave sounded a bit dissatisfied,
"I thought I’d get a surprise call from you right away, but I ended up waiting for an hour. I almost called the flower shop to confirm if they actually delivered the flowers to you."
Laurent couldn’t help but laugh at his somewhat resentful tone.
"By the way, I guess I should thank Bert. Thanks to him, I got to enjoy the treatment of being pursued by you."
Laurent intended to make a sarcastic remark about how Bert had unintentionally facilitated their relationship, but to his surprise, Dave interpreted it differently.
Her words reminded Dave that he had never actually pursued her in a proper, serious way. During their vacation, things had just seemed natural in that particular environment.
But in reality, he had never truly courted her.
So at that moment, he decided,
"From now on, I’ll send you flowers every day, until the day you agree to marry me again."
Now Laurent was feeling a headache. The bouquet he had sent was already enough to make waves, and if he kept sending flowers every day... wouldn’t she become the talk of the whole company?
"You really shouldn’t send any more. I already understand your intentions."
Laurent quickly shifted the topic.
"Alright, I have to go. I need to get back to work."
And with that, he hung up, unwilling to continue discussing the flowers with him any further.
When Daniel received Bert’s call, he had just left Tiffany’s building.
He had been waiting outside Tiffany’s building this morning. He was very familiar with Tiffany’s daily routine.
Around eight in the morning, she would take her granddaughter to kindergarten, walking both ways because her home was very close to the kindergarten.
By no later than 8:30, she would definitely return.
But today, by nearly nine, Tiffany still hadn’t returned, and Daniel started to feel worried. He took out his phone to call her and check if something had happened.
Just as he was about to dial, he saw Tiffany walking back from a distance, holding a bag.
Daniel put his phone away and hurried over to meet her, his face full of concern.
"Why are you so late coming back today?"
When he saw the bag she was holding, he quickly asked,
"Are you feeling sick?"
The bag contained several types of cold medicine.
Tiffany pretended not to see him, lowering her head and trying to walk around him, but Daniel stopped her. She had no choice but to look at him, her expression cold.
"Is there something you need?"
Her voice was thick with nasal congestion, making it clear that her cold was quite severe.
Daniel, however, didn’t bother answering her question. He was only focused on her being sick.
"How did you catch such a bad cold? Let me take you to the hospital."
He stepped forward, intending to help her to the car, but Tiffany pulled away.
"If it’s nothing serious, I’ll head home. I need to take my medicine."
Without another word, she turned and walked away without looking back.
Daniel watched her resolute figure leave, feeling helpless. He could only call the family doctor from Burg Eltz to come and check on her.
In the chaos of her being sick, Daniel completely forgot the real reason he had come to see her today: a friend had asked him to introduce a boyfriend to his daughter, and he was there to consult her opinion.
His daughter, Lilian, was twenty-three this year. She had just graduated from university and started working, at the perfect age for a young woman in her prime.
She was young, beautiful, well-behaved, and came from a good family. Most importantly, unlike some other rich girls who had chaotic relationships with men or were reckless spendthrifts, Lilian was different.
Compared to those girls, his own daughter could be seen as a breath of fresh air—modest, calm, and understated. Daniel believed this was all thanks to her mother’s proper upbringing.
Tiffany herself was the kind of person who didn’t compete, didn’t seek the spotlight, and didn’t make a fuss. Since Tiffany raised their daughter on her own, Lilian had naturally inherited many of Tiffany’s excellent qualities.
It was no surprise, then, that many merchants and officials from influential families had placed Lilian on their list of ideal daughters-in-law. Friends would occasionally bring up this subject in front of Daniel.
For a father, his feelings about his daughter were very complicated.
He didn’t want her to marry too soon, yet he hoped she would find a good man and settle down well.
When Lilian was still in school, Daniel had politely rejected such discussions, citing her youth. But now, having graduated and started working with no plans for further study abroad, it seemed like it might be time for a young woman to think about starting a family.
So, recently, when people brought this up to him, Daniel paid closer attention. He rejected the ones he didn’t think were right for her right away.
This time, however, he thought this young man seemed good. He worked at a government office and had already become a small section chief. Daniel had thoroughly checked his family background and character, and he thought his appearance was also a good match for Lilian. That’s why he planned to discuss it with Tiffany.
But then he got distracted by her being sick.
He still felt it was necessary to bring it up with her, so he called Tiffany downstairs.
She answered, but her tone was very cold.
"What’s the matter?"
He quickly spoke up. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Actually, I came to see you today about something important. A friend mentioned introducing a boyfriend to Lilian. I’ve looked into the young man and think he’s quite good, so I wanted to—"
Before he could finish, Tiffany interrupted him with a cold voice.
"Do you really think a man like you has the right to help find a boyfriend for our daughter? What if you end up picking someone just like yourself? You ruined my life—do you want to ruin our daughter’s life too?"
Daniel was left speechless by Tiffany’s merciless words. He felt a deep, painful ache inside, as if he had been slapped hard across the face. His face burned with a stinging heat.
Still reeling from the pain of her words, he heard her on the other end speaking coldly.
"I’ve already found a suitable match for Lilian—Karl. So you don’t need to worry about her future."
And with that, she hung up.
The reason Tiffany had mentioned her choice to Daniel was that, after all, he was Lilian’s father, and she felt he needed to know about such matters.
Daniel stared at the phone that had been hung up, a bitter smile on his face.
But the next moment, he remembered her mention of Karl. To be honest, Daniel wasn’t familiar with this Karl; he was far more familiar with Morrison, the eldest son of the Mo family.
Morrison, after all, was a person in the business world, someone he ran into at many events, and he was also friends with his own son.
As for Karl, he had always followed the academic and research path. Over the years, he had been studying abroad, so they didn’t have much contact, and Daniel didn’t really know what kind of person he was.
But then he thought, since Tiffany had chosen him for Lilian, he must be good enough. Besides, he had no say in the matter now. It was probably best to leave it to her.
As he got into the car and was about to leave, his phone rang again. When he heard that it was Bert on the other end, Daniel’s already darkened expression grew even more somber, especially when Bert mentioned he was at Burg Eltz and wanted to meet with him.
