You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 261- the result
Tiffany leaned slightly against the headboard, lifted her hand to brush the hair from her forehead, and said,
"It doesn’t matter anymore. Let him do whatever he wants."
She then looked at her son and added,
"As long as you’re both fine, I don’t care what happens here. Whatever he says or does can’t hurt me, because I never took him seriously to begin with."
No matter how much Bert is stirring things up now, could it hurt more than the despair she felt when she first found out about their existence as a mother and son?
Dave glanced at his mother, and finally spoke up,
"Actually, the one who’s most pleased and happy about how things are between you and Dad right now is Bert."
As the saying goes, "The loved ones suffer, the enemies rejoice."
Tiffany pursed her lips and fell silent.
Did she not know? She knew very well that her conflict with Daniel, leading to their divorce, had ultimately pleased that mother-son pair.
But she didn’t care anymore. If they liked it, after her divorce with Daniel, they could let him go to the United States and form a family with them.
She had been wronged for so many years, and she didn’t want to continue to wrong herself in the days to come.
Seeing his mother’s attitude, Dave wisely chose not to mention the issue between her and his father again.
Laurent prepared dinner, and the four of them sat down to eat together.
Lilian called halfway through to say she was coming over for a meal. She had originally planned to eat out with colleagues, but she had to cancel at the last minute, so she decided to come over.
Lilian didn’t know that her mother was ill. When she arrived and saw her mother’s condition, she was quite heartbroken. She immediately suggested staying at her mother’s place for the next few days to take care of her, which everyone thought was a good idea.
During dinner, Dave reminded Lilian,
"Be careful when going to and from work these days. Didn’t Morrison arrange someone to escort you?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Lilian blinked,
"So, you had him arrange someone to escort me to and from work?"
So, her brother wasn’t going to escort her himself. She had been wondering why her brother would come up with such a bad idea.
Dave furrowed his brows and looked at her,
"What do you mean?"
Lilian chuckled and lowered her head to eat her food,
"Oh, nothing, nothing."
The next day at work, Laurent had no choice but to entertain Bert.
Since Bert’s visit was supposedly for business discussions, Laurent had to go along with the act. Moreover, Bert had called early in the morning, asking her to take him to visit the factory in the small town and discuss samples.
When Bert called, Laurent and Dave had just woken up. Laurent couldn’t help but be amazed by Bert’s routine. He had called early both days. She and Dave woke up early to make breakfast for their child and get ready for work, but Bert, a carefree client, what was the point of him being up so early?
At that moment, Laurent was in Dave’s arms, kissing him, when Bert’s call came in, interrupting everything. Naturally, because of this, Dave overheard the contents of the call.
As soon as Dave heard that Bert wanted Laurent to accompany him to the factory, he furrowed his brows, snatched Laurent’s phone, and spoke coldly into the phone,
"Bert, don’t push it!"
Bert on the other end laughed,
"What’s the matter? Are you afraid to let her go alone with me? Are you afraid she might betray you too?"
The words were dripping with mockery and provocation.
Bert had deliberately called at this time, knowing they were together, intentionally provoking by saying disgusting things and comparing Laurent to Clark, just to make trouble for them.
Dave couldn’t help but sneer,
"Bert, besides using such despicable tactics, is there anything else you can do?"
Bert laughed flippantly,
"Hasn’t our great father taught you? The process doesn’t matter, what matters is the result. As long as the result is in your favor, no one cares how you got there."
Then, with a sinister tone, he added,
"So, I never care about the method I use. I only care about the result!"
Dave retorted coldly,
"Unfortunately, it seems you haven’t achieved any good results over the years."
Bert was momentarily taken aback, but then he laughed again,
"Well, we haven’t reached the end yet, have we? As the saying goes, the real winner is the one who laughs last."
"Then we’ll see!"
Dave threw that line at Bert and hung up the phone.
In reality, when it came to Bert, Dave and Laurent were somewhat passive, because they couldn’t predict what the neurotic Bert would do next. Furthermore, Bert wasn’t doing anything illegal or wrong at the moment, so they couldn’t take action against him. They were left in a position where they had to follow along passively as Bert led them around.
Dave was seething with anger,
"I’ll have someone handle his mother in the US, get him to behave. Or maybe I’ll just go and acquire his company, make him desperate. Let’s see if he still has the energy to stir up trouble here!"
Bert owned a design company in the United States, which, while smaller than Washington Co., was still a fairly substantial business. Initially, Bert ran it quite successfully, but in recent years, he seemed to have focused all his energy on fighting Dave for Washington Co., and as a result, his company’s performance had noticeably declined.
In fact, Bert was a talented person and had gained some recognition in the design world. If he hadn’t been so greedy and obsessive about acquiring Washington Co., and had focused on running his own design business, he might have already become a famous international fashion designer by now, with his company having a promising future.
However, since Washington Co. fell into Dave’s hands, Bert had channeled all his efforts into battling him. As a designer, Bert’s business acumen was nowhere near Dave’s, and over the years, he hadn’t managed to defeat Dave. Instead, he had run his own company into the ground.
So, in reality, if Dave wanted to acquire Bert’s company now, it would be an easy task.
Laurent gently tried to calm Dave,
"We can’t stoop to his level just because he’s behaving badly. Besides, if you acquire his company, and he becomes humiliated, losing everything, he might do something extreme. It would be a lose-lose situation for us."
"And the idea of hurting his mother is something we definitely can’t do!"
Laurent kept rejecting Dave’s suggestions. After all, she was a woman—and a kind-hearted one. She couldn’t bear to see Dave resort to the same vicious tactics as Bert.
What she didn’t know was that in the business world, how many people had never resorted to such ruthless tactics?
