Chapter 274: Chapter 274- family members

Wooden, after all, was getting older. Overnight, such a big event happened at Burg Eltz—people went missing, and Washington County was about to undergo a change of leadership. It had taken a lot of the lord’s attention, leaving him utterly exhausted.

Dave reminded the lord’s personal butler to take good care of the lord, then left with Laurent.

As soon as they got into the car, Bert’s phone rang again.

Without any hesitation, Dave responded to Bert.

"I agree to all your terms. Come to Washington County at 2 PM, and we’ll sign the documents."

Dave’s tone was firm.

"Of course, the condition is that my mother and my daughter are both safe and sound."

Bert chuckled on the other end of the line.

"You agreed so quickly. I’m a little unaccustomed to it. Are you trying to pull off some kind of trick on me?"

Bert’s words hinted at doubt, questioning the truth of Dave’s statements, suspecting that Dave had set a trap to lure him out, only to refuse to hand over Washington County.

"Don’t worry. I’m not like some people, playing dirty behind others’ backs."

Dave sneered, mocking Bert.

"How many people can be as cold-hearted, heartless, and indifferent to the lives of their own family members like you?"

Dave sneered as he spoke.

"By the way, if you plan to kill him with anger, then keep at it."

The "him" referred, of course, to Daniel. Bert remained silent on the other end.

After a long pause, Bert finally responded.

"Once I have the signed share transfer agreement from you, I’ll naturally release them."

"Fine. Two PM, don’t be late," Dave replied, then immediately hung up the phone and, together with Laurent, drove to the hospital to visit Daniel.

Daniel had actually been in good health, but ever since his divorce from Laurent last year and the subsequent trouble with Tiffany, who also wanted to divorce him, his mood had been in a constant state of depression. To make matters worse, Tiffany had been kidnapped recently, and his heart condition worsened due to the stress.

By the time Dave and Laurent arrived, the doctor had already diagnosed Daniel, prescribed medication, and provided a treatment plan. It wasn’t too serious, but the doctor did warn them:

"Emotional stress and depression are significant triggers for heart disease. To ensure proper treatment and recovery, it’s essential that the patient maintains a good state of mind."

The group reflected on everything that had happened in Burg Eltz over the past year and the mess Bert had stirred up. No wonder Daniel was sick—this time, it was real, not feigned.

As for Tiffany and Emma, although Bert’s tone had been decisive and vicious when he talked to Dave on the phone, even threatening Tiffany and Emma’s lives, their relationship was actually relatively peaceful. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

In truth, Bert had no desire to get along with the older and younger women, but the younger one was too innocent and persistent in her pursuit, and the older one was too easygoing and calm, making it impossible for him to be truly harsh with them.

"My mom said it’s best not to eat anything from outside, it will make your stomach hurt!"

It wasn’t that Emma was picky about Washington’s food, but she had rarely eaten outside food growing up. Before, Laurent had been the one to prepare all her meals, and now Tiffany had taken over, focusing on taking care of her and cooking for her. This had spoiled her taste, making her sensitive to food that had too many seasonings.

Tiffany, still calm and composed, continued eating leisurely, ignoring the little girl’s solo performance.

Bert didn’t pay her much attention either. In his mind, he wondered why this little girl was making such a big fuss, but he couldn’t be bothered to respond.

The little girl, seeing her protest was ineffective, blinked her big eyes and, after a moment of thought, spoke again.

"Then tell me, what food is safe? What would you like to eat?"

The little girl looked at him with innocent eyes.

"I want to eat what Tiffany makes, or what my mom makes, that’s fine too."

The little girl didn’t realize that her mom couldn’t possibly come here at the moment. She simply shared what she felt in her heart, since Bert had asked her.

"Emma!"

Finally, Tiffany spoke up, looking at the little girl with a slightly serious expression.

"We are guests at Uncle’s house now. As guests, it’s up to the host, Uncle, to decide what we will eat. Making demands like this is not polite."

The little girl felt a bit wronged after being scolded by her grandmother, but she obediently said nothing further. She lowered her eyes, picked up her knife and fork, and, as Lady Tiffany had said, prepared to eat the food the host had prepared politely.

"Wait a moment."

Bert stopped the little girl and then looked at Tiffany.

"Please write down a recipe, and I’ll have someone go buy the ingredients."

Tiffany gave him a glance, then replied softly, "Okay."

She then walked to the side, grabbed paper and pen, and quickly wrote down a few ingredients.

The little girl happily jumped off her chair, ran over, grabbed Bert’s hand, and sweetly thanked him.

" thank you!"

Then she shook his hand and acted a little coquettish.

"Can you also buy me some yogurt?"

The little girl looked at Bert with expectant eyes. What other choice did Bert have but to nod in agreement?

So, for lunch, the three of them ate the food Tiffany had prepared. Bert had originally thought Tiffany only knew how to cook for herself and her granddaughter, but after she finished cooking, Tiffany invited him to join them.

He had intended to refuse, but couldn’t resist the longing he felt for warmth, so he sat down at the table.

His mother rarely cooked meals. Most of the time, she focused on makeup, dressing up, and going out to date men. The warmth of home was something he experienced very little.

It was only during the time Daniel was there that his house had felt like a real home.

Because of this, he had always held a grudge against Daniel for abandoning them. He had always believed it was Daniel’s departure that had caused him to lose the warmth of home, and so he had always blamed Daniel.

What he didn’t know was that, as long as a mother loves her children, she can give them the warmth of home, make them feel loved, and allow them to live happy and fulfilled lives.

But his mother had never done that.

By the end of the meal, he politely thanked Tiffany. The little girl, beaming with happiness, said,

"How was it? Tiffany’s cooking is really delicious, right?"

Bert glanced at Tiffany but said nothing.

He had always thought that Tiffany would curse at him or mock him cruelly when they met. However, her reaction was completely unexpected.

She remained as calm as ever—neither cold nor warm, neither distant nor close.

There was no deliberate aloofness, nor was there any intentional closeness.

After lunch, Tiffany coaxed Emma to take an afternoon nap, while Bert, in accordance with his agreement with Dave, headed to Washington Co.

In the presence of a lawyer, Dave transferred all of his shares in Washington Co to Bert. From that moment, Bert became the new leader of Washington Co.

Just as Bert had wished.

Dave only made one request: the project he had been managing with Mr. Brown, which was nearly finished and involved the Mo family, should be completed by him. He wanted to see it through to the end since he had been responsible for it from the start.

Bert agreed.

Now that he had gained full control of Washington Co, he didn’t care about Dave’s small request.

However, Bert did ask Dave, "You don’t want the Foreign Trade Department?"

Bert knew that the Foreign Trade Department had been created by Dave specifically for Laurent. He hadn’t expected Laurent to be absent, and Dave had continued managing it afterward.

To Bert’s surprise, Dave didn’t hesitate for a second before shaking his head.

"I don’t want it."

The Foreign Trade Department had been established merely to keep Laurent under his watch. Now that she was no longer in Washington Co and was thriving at Matthew’s company, the department no longer held any meaning for Dave.

In fact, the real reason Dave was so quick to give up the department was that he was thinking of allowing Laurent to establish her own foreign trade company. This would be much simpler and far more liberating for her than the Foreign Trade Department at Washington Co.

Once the handover was complete, Dave left with his belongings, casually mentioning that they would announce the change at tomorrow morning’s board meeting.
