Chapter 58: Chapter 58-positive energy

The more Dave thought about it, the angrier he became. However, had he ever reflected on his own actions? During the time when their marriage was still intact, he had given their daughter very little attention. She had grown up in an environment lacking both parental love and the care of a father. Had he ever truly given her a complete and loving family?

When Dave drove his daughter to his mother’s house, Tiffany was already preparing dinner. Dave handed his daughter over to his sister, Lilian, and then walked into the kitchen.

He had already learned that his mother had gone to see his father and had firmly told him she was filing for divorce.

Because his father’s illness had been a fabrication, and seeing through his mother’s motives, he had grown disheartened and decided to leave the hospital. The doctors had called to tell him to go through the discharge procedures

Dave didn’t mention his father’s situation to his mother but instead invited her.

"After dinner, you can pack up your things and take Emma with you to live at my place."

Tiffany glanced at him but didn’t say anything.

His mother had always been perceptive, and Dave wasn’t sure if she had seen through his real intentions of trying to use her to contact that infuriating woman.

He cleared his throat to cover his emotions.

"Emma and I haven’t lived together for a long time, and we’re growing apart. Now that her mom isn’t around, if I’m not with her either, it wouldn’t be good for her development."

After Dave finished speaking, Tiffany, while continuing to prepare dinner, calmly replied.

"No."

Dave didn’t expect his mother to refuse and asked, puzzled.

"Why?"

"No particular reason. I’m just used to living here with your sister. I don’t want to keep moving around."

Tiffany gave her reason, and Dave continued to persuade her.

"You don’t need to move much. Just bring your clothes and things. Or you don’t even need to bring clothes; I’ll buy new ones for you once you get there."

At this point, Tiffany decisively told him:

"I said I’m not going, and I’m not going. If you’re worried that your daughter will grow distant from you, then take her home and take care of her yourself."

After receiving such a firm rejection, Dave was left speechless. He awkwardly left the kitchen.

How could Tiffany not see through her son’s intentions? He clearly couldn’t let go, yet he was so used to his pride that he couldn’t bring himself to make amends. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so awkward and manipulative in trying to contact Laurent.

But Tiffany didn’t want to give in to him. She intentionally decided to teach him a lesson.

He had been spoiled by Laurent, and it was time for him to fall from his high perch and lower his arrogant attitude.

In a relationship, it can start out unbalanced, but if it remains so for too long, with one side loving more than the other, it will eventually cause problems. From the beginning of their marriage, Tiffany, as someone who had been through it all, had seen the issues.

She had even kindly warned Laurent not to indulge him so much, but at that time, Laurent was so blinded by love that she couldn’t get through to her. She had no choice but to give up.

It wasn’t that she was taking her son’s side. Tiffany didn’t believe the failure of their marriage was solely her son’s fault—Laurent had her own share of responsibility.

Her fault was that she loved too humbly, loved without retaining any sense of self. She shouldn’t have placed all her focus on him.

As for her son, his mistake was neglecting and ignoring Laurent, assuming that everything Laurent did for him was something he was entitled to.

Perhaps it was better that they were apart now.

After the separation, they could both cool down and reflect on the relationship. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

After dinner, Dave, after much contemplation, decided to take his daughter back to Washington’s residence and take care of her himself.

Part of his decision was driven by his frustration with his mother. He was upset that she hadn’t agreed to move in with him, so he wanted to show her that he could take care of his daughter on his own.

When Lilian heard that Dave was going to take care of Emma Washington by himself, she didn’t hold back in teasing him.

"Bro, don’t ask about anything else. I’ll just ask you one thing: can you do Emma’s hair?"

After Lilian spoke, she pointed to Emma Washington’s beautiful braided hairstyle, which she, as the aunt, had just finished doing while they were waiting for dinner.

Dave glanced at the little girl’s hairstyle, his brow furrowed.

"Just comb it out and let it hang over her shoulders, or tie it into a simple ponytail. Why make it so fancy?"

The last time he had taken care of her for an entire evening, when Laurent hadn’t come home for the night, he had simply combed her hair in the morning, and she hadn’t said anything about it, had she?

Lilian glanced at the little girl, who was now focused on her meal, temporarily ignoring the topic due to her new hairstyle. She smiled, clearly enjoying her brother’s discomfort.

"Okay, then you can just do her hair however you want when the time comes."

It seemed her brother hadn’t fully grasped the little girl’s temperament. When she got stubborn, she was hard to handle.

And with how much she loved to be vain, the new hairstyle might last for a day or two, but by the day after tomorrow, she’d probably want something new. She was curious how her brother would handle it then.

Furthermore, Lilian figured that he probably didn’t even know how to tie a simple ponytail.

As for Laurent, after having lunch, she took a nap. In the afternoon, she went out to get a new number.

She sat on the bus leisurely, no longer needing to constantly think about what delicious meal to prepare for her daughter and him for dinner. Every housewife, she thought, would deeply understand the burden of cooking every day—balancing nutrition, coming up with variety, and making sure both the child and husband liked it.

She didn’t need to plan the time to pick up her daughter, didn’t need to remember to pick up the suit she had dropped off for dry cleaning a few days ago, or worry about the endless trivialities at home.

She didn’t need to spend her energy trying to please him, to make him fall in love with her.

No need to worry about whether he loved her or not, no need to care if she was in his heart.

She felt so relaxed, so content.

After she completed the paperwork at the service center, she took out her phone, inserted the new SIM card, and turned it on.

She logged in, and found that their group chat had started up again.

Vivian had started the conversation. Vivian, a pregnant woman about to give birth, was bored out of her mind. She claimed it was to ease her anxiety before labor, but spent all day holding her phone and playing games.

Vivian sent a link and angrily said:

"Look, you guys see this? Just after Laurent divorced us, his relationship with that woman got exposed. This has to be deliberate, right? It’s meant to provoke us, to show off in front of Laurent!"

Laurent had been unable to check her messages because her phone was off without a SIM card, but now she was starting from the beginning, reading through their chat history. When she saw the link Vivian had shared, she clicked on it and saw the photos of him and Clark looking intimate with each other.

She wasn’t angry at all—she’d already gotten that anger out long ago. This wasn’t even the first time she’d seen such photos; she’d witnessed it with her own eyes when he was being close with Clark.

So, she just smiled and replied to Vivian:

"You’re about to give birth. Can you calm down a little?"

Vivian, still upset, replied:

"Laurent, hurry up and release your divorce certificate! Let everyone see the date of your divorce, so they know for sure that he cheated while married. Let him become infamous in the county!"

Vivian sent a series of angry emojis, and Laurent didn’t know what to say. She, the person directly involved, hadn’t even reacted, but Vivian was already furious.

Marylin replied to Vivian with an eye-roll emoji, and Zoey also chimed in:

"I think Dave is already in the past for Laurent. Let’s not talk about him anymore, so we don’t ruin our mood."

"Exactly, Vivian. Stop sending us stuff like that. Can’t you share something positive?"

Marylin scolded Vivian, and Vivian fell silent for a while before sending a series of photos of Leonardo, and they were all very suggestive.

"Ha, is this positive energy? Are you guys feeling excited or having nosebleeds yet?"

The three of them responded with a series of ellipses, showing their disdain for Vivian’s behavior.

Marylin couldn’t help but tease Vivian:

"Vivian, if you weren’t married to Frank, I’d suspect you have a crush on Leonardo."

Vivian, laughing, joked:

"Yeah, yeah, I’ve always had a crush on him, but unfortunately, his heart only has room for our Laurent. So, I had to settle for second best and chose Frank."

Marylin replied to Vivian:

"Bull! If you truly loved someone, how could you settle for someone else?"

Zoey also chimed in:

"I agree with Marylin. Settling for second best is not only irresponsible to yourself but also disrespectful to the person you’ve settled for."

Laurent added a reply:

"I agree."

Marylin and Zoey’s words hit home for Laurent.
