Chapter 733: To the Lab!

Just as Houqin struggled to come up with an answer, her mother surprised everyone as she spoke up in her defense.

"Old man, why don’t you let them resolve it themselves? Let the youngsters do what’s best for themselves."

Houqin’s father opened his mouth, but no words came out in the end as he only shook his head before walking right past her own daughter.

"Hope you don’t regret it..."

"Thank you."

As the three of them watched him enter a separate room, Houqin’s mother quickly turned her attention back over to Xiaoyun.

"Ahem, since you call me mother-in-law earlier, when are you two marrying and giving me a grandkid?"

"Mom!"

"Um, there are a lot of things going on in the town right now that need my attention, but after I sort everything out, I’ll give her a proper wedding."

Xiaoyun’s serious response made Houqin shyly turn around towards the wall, unable to look back at him in the face.

"That’s good to hear... Don’t worry about her dad, I’ll talk some sense into him later." Houqin’s mother murmured.

"Thank you... Houqin, let’s go. You still have a lot of work to do while you were gone from the office."

As he forcefully grabbed onto Houqin’s hand, she had no choice but to follow him out toward the exit.

"Bye, Mom!"

"Bye..."

---

As the two of them entered the car, Houqin’s face was still blushing red as she sat in the passenger seat.

"Was this what you were expecting?" Xiaoyun asked as he started up the car engine, getting ready to drive down the road.

"Maybe..."

Seeing her still looking out the window and avoiding his eye contact, Xiaoyun decided to speak up a little louder.

"You know, Houqin, I didn’t expect to be talking to your parents when I went up there... Did you not help them sign up for a house?"

"I did. They were just about to move out this week... I didn’t expect you to come up to the apartment."

As Houqin quietly gave her response, Xiaoyun said nothing back as they drove further and further away from her home.

"Commander, where are we going?" Houqin curiously asked as she suddenly noticed the road ahead wasn’t going back to the office.

"To the doctor. Did you really think I’m going to let you off the hook? You’re getting a checkup today, no matter what."

"You... Whatever."

This time, she didn’t argue back, opting to accept her fate as the scenery soon changed into the busy streets.

"I almost forgot to tell you this, you probably should stop calling me commander if you’re my girlfriend now."

Houqin’s face blushed red once again before the word nervousness was written all over her face, but it soon turned into a surprise.

They had driven right past the hospital, going further down the road as their surroundings became more and more isolated.

"Commander... Xiaoyun, you just drove past the hospital."

"I know. We aren’t going to the hospital... Do you really think I’m going to drive you to a place that has public records?"

As soon as Xiaoyun finished his sentence, he could see the nervousness instantly disappear on her face.

"Were you scared of a doctor’s checkup because you thought I was going to bring you to a hospital?"

"N-No. I wasn’t scared of the doctor or the hospital. I just felt like it’s a waste of time and it doesn’t matter much."

"Mhm... I swear somebody said earlier that they didn’t want the doctor to know if their body had a virus or not.

Is someone scared that the doctors are going to be extra noisy? Or the nurses going through the file, telling their co-worker if something unique was found?"

Houqin’s face blushed a little once again, looking a little embarrassed to be exposed like this. But she didn’t try to argue back.

"Actually, I have a better idea. Since you aren’t scared, how about we just go do the test at a hospital—"

"Hell no!"

"Okay then."

As Xiaoyun’s car came to a stop, Houqin immediately recognized the nearby building and the place he had brought her to.

A massive ’pawn shop’ right in front of them, with no other stores nearby, almost as if the whole street had been brought up.

"Tianci is really not bothering about hiding it anymore, huh?"

Xiaoyun murmured as he could feel the sheer isolation with all the other buildings having evacuation posters listed all over.

"Good afternoon, Governor, what brought you here today?"

The front desk worker didn’t even bother hiding it as he was already opening the door for the two of them to enter.

"I need to meet with Tianci... She’s back from her trip today, right?" Xiaoyun curiously asked, digging through his memory on the date.

"Oh, the head director isn’t back until ten o’clock. I can send someone to ask her to come back early if you want."

"No need. I’ll just talk to... Is Liang Mei here?"

The front desk worker paused for a second before nodding his head.

"She’s here. Do you want me to call her out to meet you? Or do you want me to bring you to her?"

"I can find her myself. You stay on your duty."

"Yes, sir!"

The front desk worker finally opens the lab door fully, letting the two of them inside as he quickly unlocks the airlock door next for them.

As it closed on its own and left them inside the lab floor, Houqin finally got the courage to speak up.

"Is this what Tianci’s lab looks like?"

"Yeah. Is this your first time here or something?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as she followed him down the hallway.

"I only met her a few times on the outside when she requested assistance to gather lab material on the front line."

"How about everyone else in my family? Do you know any of them?" Xiaoyun suddenly asked, getting a little curious.

"Um... I-I know Colonel Wuli and Miss Yuqi. A-And Miss Xiaoyue and Mrs.Leyan."

Houqin responded after a few seconds of thinking as their footsteps echoed down the lab hallways before they disappeared.

"Great. That’s like half of them. Looks like I only need to introduce you to the other half and everything will be good."

"W-What? What do you mean by half?"

Seeing her jaw drop in shock, Xiaoyun’s brain quickly realizes that integrating Houqin into his harem might be harder than he had initially imagined.

"Ahem, let’s not talk about that for now. We’re just right at the place for your doctor’s checkup for today."

As he looked through the hallway window, he could see Liang Mei standing next to several other workers in lab suits.

With a gentle knock on the door, the two waited outside. After waiting for a bit, one of the workers came to open it.

"Mr.Governor, is there something we can help you with?"

"Can you tell Liang Mei to come out? I need to talk to her in private about something that Tianci had told me."

The worker immediately went back into the room. In a matter of seconds, Liang Mei was right outside in front of them.

"Mr.Governor! What’s the thing our Chief Scientific Officer says?"

"She needs you to conduct a blood and... any kind of test meant to detect viruses for this person. Tianci and I both need the report afterward."

As Liang Mei looked towards the person behind him, she quickly agreed to it as she took out an ID card.

"We’ll conduct the most thorough test for her... Miss, please take this ID with you. You can come to this lab with this in the future."

"Thank you."

"One last thing, I don’t want this to be on any computer or paper record afterward. This is a top secret test."

The request caught Liang Mei a little off guard, but she didn’t reject it as she nodded her head once again in agreement.

"Will do, sir."

"Okay, you can follow her now... Call me when you’re done. I’ll be waiting outside."

Xiaoyun watched as Liang Mei brought Houqin further down the hall before they went inside one of the rooms.

---

After waiting for two hours outside, Houqin finally came out of the lab entrance with Liang Mei.

Both of their faces looked extremely grim, making Xiaoyun immediately concerned as he quickly walked up to the two of them.

"What’s wrong?"

Houqin didn’t say anything back, but Liang Mei handed Xiaoyun two separate folders straight into his hand.

"Mr.Governor, I have some good news and some bad news... Do you want to hear the good news first or the bad news?"

Xiaoyun quickly gave an eye signal towards the front desk worker, who instantly understood it as he brought the guard along with him to the outside.

"What’s the good news?"

"The majority of the virus strain had been temporarily inactive. Something had neutralized most of the threat that could impact her."
