Zombie Apocalypse: Creation-Chapter 749: A Boring Day For Lingang
"Commander Lingang, are we really just going to stay in this city all day?’
An officer impatiently asked as Lingang looked bored out of his mind, staring right outside the window.
"Do you want to go against the Commander-in-Chief’s Order?"
The officer instantly shut his mouth, but he still looked a little annoyed as he soon got a little bored as well.
"Can we really not advance Hong Kong? Or at least towards Huizhou city? We’re just sitting here and wasting food."
This time, another officer spoke up. He looked just as bored as all four officers in the room.
"Unless you can magically gather twenty million into the government checks and pay for the expedition, be my guest."
None of them spoke up as they all knew the issue. They had all seen the newspaper that talked about what had happened in the past few weeks.
The north in Shaoguan had gotten all of the attention with the whole Hunan affair, with the next one being the recent giant mutant in the west towards Zhaoqing.
And now, the new focus of the army was over in the south, towards Jiangmen and Zhongshan direction.
"Why can Jiangmen and Zhongshan take all the spotlight instead of us?" The third officer quietly murmured.
"Because it bordered our capital. Do you want your home to be next to a city that is still riddled with zombies?" The fourth officer answered.
"Enough talking. Get out of my office and go back to your post. If you all want to fight, you can very well demote yourself to private and head over to Jiangmen."
All five of the officers immediately left the room, leaving Lingang alone as he stared out the window.
"When will something happen?" Lingang quietly murmured to himself as he took out his phone.
Right on the screen saver, he could see his two happily married wives standing right next to him in their wedding dresses.
"One more month and I can take a three-day break back to Luoping..."
Just as Lingang was about to make a phone call, a sudden knock echoed in the room before a voice appeared on the outside.
"General, the mayor of Shenzhen wants to meet you."
"Bring her here."
Putting the phone away, Lingang waited for a few minutes before a soldier and a middle-aged woman walked into the room.
"Good afternoon, General."
"Good afternoon, Miss Mayor. Is there something I can help you with? Or do you need me to send a radio message over to Luoping?"
The woman shook his head, then looked over to the soldier for a second before looking over to Lingang.
"He’s been following as my second in command. He won’t leak anything." Lingang reassured.
"It’s something private. I can’t really tell this to anyone else other than you, General."
Seeing her refusing to state her intention, Lingang backed down in the end as he signaled the soldier to leave the room.
"Now, can you state your intention?"
"General Lingang... Are you lonely staying here in Shenzhen by yourself?"
As the woman walked closer and closer towards his desk, Lingang immediately realized why she made the soldier leave the room.
"Miss, please stop. This is inappropriate, and I’m already married."
"No one will know as long as I don’t tell and you don’t tell... General, please. I had fallen in love with you on the very first day I met you in Shenzhen."
"Miss, please stay back away from me, or else I’ll be forced to draw my gun," Lingang warned, his right hand reaching to his holster.
The woman finally stopped, her charming face instantly turned irritated as she sat down in the chair across his desk.
"I hope you know you’re missing out on rejecting me like this."
"My two wivies are happily waiting for me back home... Is this really all you came here for today?"
"Of course not. I want you to help me take care of something."
As the woman took out a piece of paper from her bag, Lingang hesitated for a second before accepting it.
"You do know, as a part of the military, I can’t assist you with civil affairs, right?"
"Then do you expect me to ask one thousand police officers to patrol the entire city over hundreds of miles?"
"That’s the police department and the government issue, not our issue. I’m afraid I can’t do anything about this."
Lingang quickly handed the paper back, knowing the consequences of using the military to fulfill a civilian request could be court martialed.
"I also have the paper that grants access for the military to serve as a police officer for the next two months until the police department in Shenzhen is fully expanded."
As she handed him a new document, Lingang realized she had already sorted everything out for him.
"You could have handed me this from the start."
"I don’t feel like it."
Lingang rolled his eyes, looking a little annoyed as he took the other paper back before putting it into his cabinet.
"I’ll need to confirm it with the logistics department first. Give me twenty minutes to chat with the radio operator."
As he ran out of the room, the woman only let out a small chuckle before walking over to where Lingang was sitting earlier.
"So suffocating..."
The woman whispered as she sniffed the seat. But her eyes soon turned a little jealous as she saw the photo on the desk.
Two woman holding Lingang’s arm, both in their wedding dresses, as they looked extremely happy with a wide smile.
---
"Oh, Commander, I was just about to talk to you."
As Lingang ran into the radio operator right in the hallway, he chose to let him speak first.
"What is it?"
"Miss Houqin had just sent us an option to send one or two divisions over to Zhongshan if you view no threat in Dongguan and Shenzhen."
"I see... Ahem, I need you to confirm this with the logistics department. See if they have granted authorization for this letter."
"Yes, sir!"
After standing outside the door for a few minutes, the radio operator finally came back with an answer.
"The logistics department can’t confirm the letter’s validity. But Commander-in-Chief stated that he authorized it."
"I see. Thank you. I’ll tell you later if we’re going to send troops later."
"No problem, sir!"
As the two saluted to each other, Lingang began heading back towards his office as he took out his phone.
"All colonels report to the office in ten minutes."
With the text sent, Lingang finally opens his office door, heading back to his seat as the Shenzhen mayor looks towards him.
"Did you confirm the validity?"
"Yes. I’ll have one of my colonels assist the police department in their patrol later... If there’s nothing else, you can leave the room now."
"Such a cruel man. But I like it... Here’s a little sneak peek at what you missed out on today."
As the Shenzhen mayor lifted her skirt with both hands, Lingang immediately looked away towards the window.
"Miss, please stop. If it is not clear, I’m not interested in you. I’m not cheating on my wife."
Lingang repeated as his face blushed a little, unable to handle a woman who was this direct for no reason whatsoever.
"Hehe, you look so cute when you’re embarrassed. See you next time!"
"What’s wrong with her? Why does she like me this much? What did I ever do to her?" Lingang wondered.
Unable to get an answer, he didn’t think too far into it as he took out a map of the country on his tablet before zooming in.
"General! W-What did you call us back for?"
As the first officer burst into the room, Lingang signaled him to take a seat over at the meeting table to the right.
"Let’s wait for others first. I’ll tell you something that you’re going to like to hear."
After waiting for a few more minutes, the other four officers show up. Their face all looked a little curious as they didn’t expect Lingang to call them back.
"General Lingang, what did you call us back for?"
"I have two things to announce. One of you will be having a new job as a police assistant patrolling on the streets—"
"I’ll do it!"
"No, I’ll do it!"
"I can do it! I know the ropes of being a police officer before."
"Bullshit, you were an auxiliary police. You weren’t even a real police officer before the outbreak."
"A fifth of my soldiers are former police officers. I’m 100% more qualified than any of you. I should be the one."
As all five of the office staff fight for the new job against each other, Lingang only tapped the table to make them all fall back into silence.
"I haven’t said my second announcement yet. Two of you will be heading over to Zhongshan to assist General Han Bang—"
"I can do it!"
"No, you just said you want to be a police officer!"
"I’m willing to die for the country!"
As the officer continued to yell back at each other and started to throw hands, Lingang tapped his finger on the table once again.
"Quiet. I’ll decide who goes and who doesn’t."
