Chapter 763: Settling in Hotel

As Xiaoyun and Houqin both walked out of the logistics hub, the two of them were filled with thoughts of their own.

"Commander... Did you seriously think of shooting those stray animals as a punishment for Yu Hua earlier?" Houqin questioned.

"What? Of course not. I was just scaring her... Here, you want some proof?"

Xiaoyun quickly took out his pistol, pulling the trigger to show a click sound as nothing came out of the barrel.

"Thank god. I thought I was dating a monster or something..."

"Hm? You said something?"

"Nothing. Commander, where are we going now?"

Looking up in the sky, it was already pitch dark as the cloud blocked the moon, leaving only a few streetlights ahead to illuminate the road.

"Get back into the car first... Also, stop calling me commander. You can just call me Xiaoyun, you know."

As the two of them approached the car, Houqin’s face blushed a little before it vanished as the driver unlocked the door for them.

"Commander, where are we going next?"

"Head over to the other Shaoguan entrance. The one over in Qujiang district... Do you know where that is?"

"Of course. I had driven across half the country." The driver answered as he looked a little proud, saying it out loud.

---

After sitting in the car for five minutes, the two of them finally arrive at the much ’busier’ side of the city.

By busier, it really just meant there were small groups of people occasionally walking by as they drove down the road.

"Where do we go next?"

"To the Vienna International Hotel."

As the car took a right turn, the two instantly felt a sense of familiarity as memories of coming from this side of the city flooded into their brain.

"Houqin, why did you set the logistic hub so far up south?" Xiaoyun curiously asked out of boredom.

"Hm? I-I don’t know. I wasn’t the one who set the location... Yu Hua was the one who set the location when she first arrived in Shaoguan."

The answer made Xiaoyun fall into a deep thought. But after a few seconds, he finally came up with a conclusion he was satisfied with.

"They must have set up the logistic hub long before people started moving in..."

"Commander Chen. We’ve arrived at the hotel."

"Thank you... You can just pick a room inside as well. You don’t have to stay in the car all day."

As the two of them exited the car, the driver nodded in gratitude as they headed towards the hotel by themselves.

"Houqin, you okay? Your face looks a little redder than usual." Xiaoyun suddenly asked after noticing the blush on her face.

"I-I’m fine..."

The redness instantly disappeared from her face, but her body started to look a little uneasy, as if her heart was racing faster and faster.

"Hello, I’d like to rent two rooms."

"Five NCR, please."

After handing his ID card to the front desk worker, they just stood still with the card and the scanner in hand.

"Hello?" Xiaoyun asked as he waved his hand.

"S-Sorry, G-Governor. I-I mean, sir. Your room is 201 and 202."

"Don’t worry about it. Thank you."

With the card and keys in hand, Xiaoyun started walking towards the elevator as Houqin followed right after.

"Your key."

"Thanks."

Houqin suddenly responded with a grumpy voice as Xiaoyun handed one of the keys over to her.

"You okay?"

Xiaoyun asked again, his mind not really paying attention to her as something else was constantly bothering him in the back of his head.

"I’m fine."

As she walked ahead of him and entered the other room, he didn’t think too much about it and just assumed she was just too tired.

"What’s up with her... Whatever, I have something more important to do."

Sitting down on the hotel bed alone, Xiaoyun took out his phone as the biggest challenge now appeared before him.

"How do I explain it to them? I mean, I’m not out of Guangdong, right? That was the only promise I made..."

After convincing himself everything was going to be fine, Xiaoyun finally took the courage to dial Leyan’s number.

A few seconds later, the other side picks up.

"Hello?"

"Leyan, I’m going to be busy for the next two days... I’ll probably be back by Sunday night if nothing goes wrong."

"Where are you at right now?"

"I’m over in Shaoguan right now with Wuli and Houqin... Wuli is doing a mission over in Henan right now."

The other side fell into silence for a second, until a different voice appeared.

"You’d better come home safely with them." Yuqi grumpily stated, sounding a little irritated by his sudden announcement.

"I know."

"Xiaoyun, Shuli wanted me to tell you that if Wuli comes home hurt, you can say goodbye to Wenwen and Bingbing forever."

As Leyan suddenly chimed back in with a threat, Xiaoyun didn’t get mad over it, as he only responded with a calm answer.

"It’s a non-combative mission. Tell Shuli she has nothing to worry about... You guys eating dinner right now?"

"Yeah. Have you eaten yet?"

"Not yet. Ahem, I’m going to go now. I’ll call you back again when I’m done with work. See you."

"See ya."

"What was I thinking..."

Xiaoyun murmured as he put the phone back over to the bedside table before lying down on the bed.

His mind was already filled with regret for letting Wuli go on this mission. Although it was supposed to be ’non-combative,’ the danger was ever-present.

There was barely any updated information on Hunan province. He had practically sent Wuli blind without a careful plan that ensured her safety.

"I should have just gone myself... Why didn’t I do that?"

Xiaoyun lingered in thought, the urge to act steadily building—until a knock at the door broke his train of thought.

"Commander, you want to go get some food?"

"Sure."

As Xiaoyun opened the door, Houqin was already standing there, seemingly a little too calm compared to earlier.

"Where are your glasses?" Xiaoyun curiously asked, noticing her face looked much different than usual.

"I didn’t feel like wearing it... Come on, let’s get some food. I’m so hungry already."

Without waiting for an answer, Houqin grabbed his arm, clinging to it like they were a couple heading out on a date.

"Huh? What had gotten into her?"

Xiaoyun’s brain was a little scattered as she kept dragging him along, bringing him into the elevator before he noticed the blush on her face.

"Houqin, are you sure you can see without your glasses?" Xiaoyun asked again, his mind was weirded out seeing her without it.

"I don’t need glasses, okay? I only wear it because it makes me look professional... Where do you want to eat?"

As the elevator’s door opened again, Houqin immediately let him go free as if all the courage had vanished.

"I barely been to Shaoguan... Let’s go ask the front desk."

"Hello, sir." The front desk nervously smiled at the two of them as they walked up to the desk.

"Hello. I was wondering if you know any good places to eat here."

"There’s no restaurant in Shaoguan. All the food here is rationed and sold at the government store in the morning."

The front desk worker paused for a second, then continued.

"We can offer a complimentary meal if you want. It consists of canned pork, some veggies, and rice."

"Nevermind."

Xiaoyun quickly turned around, bringing Houqin back into the elevator as they headed back up to the 2nd floor.

"Where are we going to eat now? I’m so hungry..."

As Houqin stepped out of the elevator, disappointed, her stomach started grumbling in protest.

"Did you forget my ability already?"

"Your ability? Oh right. I completely forgot about that... I haven’t seen you use it for so long now."

"Mhm."

Opening the door, Houqin quickly followed Xiaoyun into his hotel room as they sat down at the hotel table.

"What do you want to eat? I’ll try my best to make it here."

"Um... How about some red braised pork belly and stir-fried green beans?"

"No problem."

Right before their eyes, a plate full of pork belly and a plate full of green beans appeared on the table.

"Careful, it might be a little too hot or cold. I can’t really control the temperature exactly." Xiaoyun warned as he handed her a pair of chopsticks.

"I’m not that picky—Oww, it’s hot, it’s hot."

As Houqin desperately fans her mouth after biting one of the green beans, Xiaoyun quickly creates a cup of cold water.

"Careful. There was steam coming out from the bottom. You should have noticed the beans are hot."

"Mhmhm. Fuck that hurts. My tongue feels so burnt."

Seeing her eyes almost on the verge of tears after chugging half a cup of cold water, Xiaoyun felt a little bad.

"Let me help you smooth it."

"How are you—"

Before Houqin could react, Xiaoyun suddenly grabbed onto her hand. Within seconds, the burning sensation vanished.

"H-How did you do that?" Houqin asked in shock as she couldn’t believe how fast the pain disappeared.

"You forgot I can change someone’s body part? I just changed your tongue back to a few seconds earlier when I handed you the chopstick."

"Right..."

As Houqin patiently waited for the food to cool down this time, Xiaoyun handed her a bowl of rice before making one for himself.
