Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower-Chapter 497: Scheme
Everything pointed to Angelina being a legitimate resident.
Not to mention this wasn’t the first time a resident had made such a request.
With practiced ease, the receptionist took out a specialized stamp and pressed it firmly onto the letter.
The dull thud echoed softly across the counter.
Angelina exhaled slowly, relief washing over her.
She returned to Greta and her mother, who were waiting anxiously nearby.
The moment they saw the stamped letter, their faces lit up.
They accepted it with trembling hands, gratitude written plainly across their expressions.
Throughout the verification process, Angelina stayed beside them, offering silent support, occasionally leaning closer as if they were old friends.
The act worked perfectly.
Once Greta and her mother passed the checks, largely thanks to the recommendation letter, they turned toward Angelina with heartfelt appreciation.
"I should get going now," Angelina said gently, glancing toward the entrance.
Greta immediately shook her head.
"No, please," she insisted. "At least come inside with us. We want to treat you to a proper meal."
Angelina hesitated, shame flickering across her face. She waved her hand lightly.
"You really don’t have to." But Greta and her mother refused to take no for an answer and guided her inside.
This time, Angelina wasn’t trespassing.
With the approval she had indirectly gained, she entered as a guest, an official visitor accompanying registered residents.
The invisible barrier didn’t repel her at all.
Ivy was indeed smart, but she had overlooked one thing: the visitor loophole.
As a result, she didn’t notice Angelina’s entry.
All Ivy sensed was a repetitive disturbance, something she dismissed without concern.
After all, countless invisible intruders tried and failed to enter the base every day.
Inside the assigned room, Angelina shared dinner with Greta and her mother.
The warm aroma of cooked food filled the space, a comfort she hadn’t felt in a long time.
After the meal, she stood up. "I won’t stay any longer," she said sincerely. "Thank you for dinner."
Greta shook her head and grabbed Angelina’s hand. "You’re one of the few people who showed us kindness," she said softly.
"Ever since we arrived, it’s been nothing but pressure. Without your recommendation, I don’t even know if we’d be here."
Angelina only smiled in response, her heart heavy.
Soon after, she slipped away to find the resident whose card she had stolen.
When she reached them, she quietly handed it back.
The resident froze before his shoulders relaxed completely.
"My card..." Relief flooded his face. "We were worried. We only noticed it was missing this evening."
He and his family had been too exhausted to think much of it earlier, but panic had set in once they realized it was gone.
They had even considered reporting it. None of them expected a stranger, especially such a beautiful one, to return it so quietly.
Angelina offered them a warm smile.
"I found it this afternoon," she said gently.
The resident thanked Angelina profusely, his voice full of relief and gratitude.
Angelina, however, didn’t dare to stay or linger even for a second longer.
She knew very well that once the resident realized a letter of recommendation had been issued under his name, he would definitely try to trace it back.
’If he connects the dots, he’ll accuse me of committing a crime,’ she thought anxiously. That was why she kept her head lowered, making sure he didn’t get a proper look at her face.
More than that, she feared he might realize that she was the very person who had stolen his card in the first place.
As soon as she reached an isolated corner, her pace quickened.
She blended into the crowd, weaving between people, stopping briefly at the grocery store as if she were just another tired resident shopping for necessities.
It was there that she finally heard some news about the prisoner.
The holding area was located at the far end of the outer section of the base.
Once she reached that area, no special permission would be required just to see the prisoners.
Even so, anxiety gnawed at her relentlessly. ’This is too risky,’ she thought, her fingers curling tightly at her sides.
Relying on invisibility alone, she made her way toward the prisoner area.
When she arrived, she hesitated, considering whether to test if they could see her or not.
Before she could act, chaos erupted nearby.
One of the residents was suddenly restrained by guards.
It turned out he had tried to turn invisible and sneak into the prison as well.
He was immediately caught and dragged away for investigation.
Angelina’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest.
’So it won’t work at all.’
At the same time, she silently thanked her luck.
’If I had rushed in earlier, that would’ve been me.’
Drawing a slow, steady breath, she retreated and began thinking of another way, turning over possibilities in her mind until an idea finally took shape.
The next day, a soldier named Archie stepped out of his house, preparing for duty.
The morning air was cool, carrying the faint scent of metal and dust.
Just as he adjusted his uniform, he stumbled upon a very beautiful girl standing by the road.
She looked slightly disheveled, her hair loose, her clothes rumpled, yet the moment he saw her, his heart began to pound uncontrollably.
The girl suddenly rushed toward him and grabbed his hand tightly. "Please," she cried, her voice trembling, "take me in."
Archie froze, his brows knitting together. "What happened?" His tone was sharp with concern. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The girl broke into sobs. "I’m a resident of this base," she said shakily. "But my parents... they decided to sell me."
Hearing that, anger flared in Archie’s eyes. "If that’s true," he snapped, "I’ll bring justice for you. Tell me your name and address. I’ll deal with them myself."
She shook her head slowly, tears streaming down her face. "There’s no use," she whispered. "They’re already dead. And my name is Angelina..."
Archie staggered back a step, completely taken aback.
