One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 942 - 940: Wrath of Thunder (Part 2)
That slash of Igor’s was filled with anger, and that anger made the Sword Qi even more tyrannical.
But the opponents were six High Rank Soul Devourers; even Nonoa’s powerful Sword Qi had only managed to knock these bastards over, let alone Igor, this half-baked swordsman.
The six Soul Devourers once again surrounded Igor.
"Our master told us to bring you back in one piece, told us we can’t hurt you."
"That’s actually kind of hard, but we can’t go against the master’s will."
"You’d better behave, or we won’t be so polite."
Igor ignored this bunch and swung his sword again.
Yet this strike had no power at all; one of the Soul Devourers simply swallowed it with its mouth.
"My ability is Consumption. Back then, that Sword Qi on you almost shattered me. If I hadn’t relied on this ability to Devour those Low Rank Soul Devourers, I wouldn’t even have been able to stand up. But now I’m High Rank. I really should thank you all!"
Only now did Igor realize how these six Intermediate Rank Soul Devourers had advanced. They’d Devoured those hundreds of Low Rank Consumption-type Soul Devourers to advance. It was cruel to the extreme, they didn’t even spare their own teammates.
"If you keep resisting, then we can only stop being polite."
"Get lost!" Igor didn’t want to waste words on these Soul Devourers.
"Heheheh, big talk, but you should see if you’ve got the skills to back it up. That guy on you—a Resistor, a swordsman—was half a master in the Border Realm, a consciousness existence above High Rank. But didn’t his consciousness still collapse? Honestly, I still want to Devour him."
"I want to as well!"
"If not for the mission, I’d want to too!"
"You don’t get a turn, he’s mine!"
"Mine!"
These Soul Devourers completely ignored Igor’s existence and directly started scheming how to Devour Nonoa.
"You bastards! Get the hell away from me!" Igor’s rage could no longer be suppressed. He frantically swung the sword in his hand, slashing again and again the way he remembered.
But it was useless.
These High Rank Soul Devourers already had strong resistance. Igor’s attacks had no effect at all.
If Igor weren’t carrying Nonoa’s body on his back, they would have swarmed him long ago and Devoured Nonoa’s body.
But since they were forbidden to harm Igor, they could only surround him tightly, and wait for those other three Soul Devourers to finish repairing the Spirit Binding Net before carrying out the mission.
Igor had no idea about the trick here. Right now he was controlled by his anger, swinging the Illusory Sword in his hand over and over, but it still had no effect.
"You can’t keep doing this!" One Soul Devourer suddenly realized: if they let Igor keep flinging his Energy around like this, once his Energy was spent and his consciousness collapsed, their mission would be impossible!
That was an outcome they absolutely could not accept.
They all knew that in front of their master, failing meant only one thing: annihilation!
So now they realized they had to stop Igor from wasting his Energy like this!
"You assistant!"
"Y-you, stop it!"
But these Soul Devourers clearly had a huge weakness: they were no good at persuading anyone. If you told them to destroy something, they might be really good at it, but tell them to stop Igor from attacking, and that was actually hard for them.
"Get lost, get lost, get lost!" Right now Igor’s mouth only knew how to spit out these words; the kid was utterly blinded by rage.
"Hey, haven’t you three finished repairing it yet?" The Soul Devourer in charge of cover was about to break down.
"Why don’t you try it then? This is the master’s magic tool. We’re just newly advanced High Rank lackeys, what the hell would we know?!"
"What nonsense!"
"Easy for you to talk when you’re not the one doing it."
The Soul Devourers started quarreling, completely different from their coordinated assault earlier!
Igor was still full of rage, but he hadn’t lost his reason. He knew he couldn’t keep burning through his Energy like this, but he had to kill these Soul Devourers, if only to avenge Nonoa.
So, carrying Nonoa on his back, he directly rammed into one Soul Devourer, not caring what it was doing.
It had to be said Igor’s physical strength was still pretty strong; he sent a Soul Devourer flying with that hit. But this still couldn’t inflict any real damage on it.
"Ow, he fought back!"
"What do we do, should we kill him?"
"What about the master then?"
"The master wants him intact. As long as we don’t damage his consciousness, it’s fine. Let’s just tie him up!"
"Let’s try it!"
The group of Soul Devourers suddenly seemed to have a brainwave and prepared to launch a new round of attacks on Igor.
But in order not to hurt Igor, they decided not to use lethal methods.
"You’re Deception, you try!" One Soul Devourer said to another; at this moment they were taking Igor’s punches and kicks head-on.
"I still think we should just Consume that guy on his back. The temptation is too great!"
"Yes! I think so too."
In less than three sentences, these Soul Devourers had gone back to wanting to Consume Nonoa. Their true nature was pure demon, through and through!
Igor couldn’t understand why these Soul Devourers could never stop talking about Devouring, and they had actually Devoured their own teammates before. It was utterly inhuman. But then, Soul Devourers were never complete "people" to begin with; they were things cobbled together from all kinds of consciousnesses. So right now Igor felt nothing but disgust toward them.
He wanted to shake off this bunch of bastards, but he felt he didn’t have the power to do that yet.
The rational part of Igor understood that the only reason he could still be standing here was because the enemies had scruples about their mission—no, more precisely, about the master mentioned in this mission!
He didn’t know who this master was, or why that master had such a strong interest in him, but he knew this master was someone he would hate.
His underlings were an ugly bunch, primitive beasts who ate their own kind. How could their leader be any sort of good person!
Igor was seething with rage, unable to vent it.
He felt that if he could vent his anger at this moment, it would definitely be enough to burn the whole earth.
The very ground would erupt with Thunder, smoke rolling skywards...
If he could hack all these hateful Soul Devourers to pieces, he’d be overjoyed.
Carrying Nonoa on his back, he kept punching and kicking at the Soul Devourers; his anger never stopped for a second.
Unknowingly, white steam suddenly began to rise from his body!
"What’s going on?!" The Soul Devourers started to feel puzzled. Why was this boy’s whole body giving off a Thunder-like aura?
This was unbelievable. Soul Devourers all knew what Thunder meant. They were only High Rank; they couldn’t withstand Thunder’s attacks. So why was this boy showing signs of Thunder on his body!
Could it be that...
