Chapter 146: The Situation escalated

Han Ziyan stood behind her mother and said to Han Ruochen with a cowardly smile playing on her lips, "It is for your own good, sister. We are helping you get rid of the evil."

Even though she was covered in blood, Han Ruochen was rather calm. She calmly wiped the blood off her face and then said in a low voice, "What do you mean? Just because I am doing better than you, I have been possessed by an evil spirit? Mom, do you mean to say that as long as someone in the family does better than Han Ziyan, they are possessed?"

"This is all because of that evil spirit!" Meng Yunhan screamed as she took some red beans out and threw them at Han Ruochen. The beans stuck to the viscous liquid and did not hurt. But Han Ruochen’s self-esteem was hurt. She had worked hard and finally purchased the motorboat that she wanted; even though it was small and without a cabin, it was something that she had earned on her own, and she was quite proud of it.

But all of her happiness and pride were sucked away by her mother, who did such a heinous thing. What did she mean by this? Did her hard work mean nothing? She woke up early every morning and went to the shore. What was more, even if she was using a cheat trick, she had used her life, blood and everything that she had in her last life; only then did the heavens bless her with this special system.

So why should she be treated this way? Even if Han Ruochen’s heart had died, her eyes could not help but turn red with humiliation.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Just then, a roar like a wounded bull shook the entire courtyard. The front door slammed open, and Han Yichen came barging inside the house. He looked at Han Ruochen, whose eyes were red with humiliation, and then at Han Yong, who was so angry that he was trembling but couldn’t do anything, as one was his mother and the other was his adopted sister. He couldn’t beat them even if he wanted to.

The anger in his heart started to boil like he had been pushed to sit on top of a heated pan, and with the speed of a man who had reached his breaking point, he reached Meng Yunhan in three strides and then—

WHACK!

The sound of the slap echoed off the stone walls like a gunshot. Meng Yunhan’s head snapped back as she tumbled off to the ground, her clothes collecting dirt as she fell. In their forty years of marriage, this was the first time that Han Yichen had raised his hand to her. However, Han Yichen did not think that there was anything wrong with what he did. How could he not feel angry when he saw his hard-working daughter being treated like she was a rabid dog?

"How dare you treat my daughter like this? How dare you?" Han Yichen bellowed. His voice trembled with anger and guilt when he thought about how his daughter had suffered so much, and that too at the hands of her own mother. "Time and time again, I have told you that you do not need to care about the issues of my children. If you don’t want to take care of them, then don’t do it, but there is no need for you to treat them like such! My daughter was the one who had been taking care of this family after me; how dare you treat her like this? Don’t you feel ashamed?!"

"She stole Ziyan’s luck!" Meng Yunhan screeched. She was in shambles when she thought about how her husband had hit her because of the wretched girl. Han Yichen had never raised his voice, much less his hand, on her, but because of Han Ruochen, he was now willing to hurt her to this extent. Look at how hard he slapped her; he almost knocked her teeth out.

That evil being, she should have stabbed it to death!

"Luck!?" Han Yong was so angry that he wished he could hit someone. He hurried over to Han Ruochen after fetching a bucket full of well water and then helped Han Ruochen wash the blood off her clothes and hair. "What do you mean? What kind of luck does she have? A woman who killed her mother as soon as she was born!"

Meng Yunhan’s expression changed, and so did Han Ziyan’s. She glared at Han Yong. What did he mean by this? When did she even kill her mother? Her mother was alive and well! It was all her mother’s fault; because of her mother, she was being treated like this.

"You–you, what nonsense are you spouting?" Meng Yunhan was furious when she heard the words of her eldest son. She was alive, and yet he was killing her already. When did she die!?

Han Yichen sneered and said, "What is wrong with Yong’er’s words? He is correct. Why is it that Ziyan, whose mother died as soon as she was born, is called lucky? While my daughter is being treated like a jinx. She is polite, hard-working and even dependable. When things went wrong, she was the one who stepped up. Among the two of you, you only know how to act exorbitantly! My daughter works hard; she wakes up early and goes to the shore. When she is free, she is reading books on fishing. What do you mean by that she was lucky? She worked hard and was blessed in return."

"Where is luck playing a role in this!?"

Han Yichen’s voice was not low at all, and it attracted the attention of the villagers quite soon. Within minutes, countless heads were popping over the walls. Some neighbours were even holding bowls of rice in their hands while the elders were leaning on canes as they peered inside the Han house.

They looked at Han Ruochen, who was still dripping with blood and then turned to look at Meng Yunhan and Han Ziyan.
