Chapter 174: Chapter 173: Saving Oneself

Just as Lü Dong was staring blankly at the towering deck before him, a series of gunshots rang out. BANG BANG BANG.

The pirates on deck began firing into the sky, shouting loudly at him.

As a former soldier, their warning shots didn’t intimidate him in the slightest. But, ’A wise man knows when to yield,’ he thought. Shaking his head, he followed the pirates’ gestures and walked toward the rope ladder that had been lowered from the deck.

Starting with Lü Dong, the people on the plane began to climb out one after another through the shattered window.

Soon, over a hundred people had gathered on the pirates’ deck.

Seeing that no one else was climbing up, the bearded pirate leader on deck picked up his walkie-talkie and yelled to his two men below.

"Gou Liaozi, is there anyone left down there?"

CRACKLE...

After a burst of static, Gou Liaozi’s voice crackled through the radio.

"Boss, the cabin is empty. We’re doing a sweep now for any stragglers."

The leader nodded in satisfaction and gave his orders.

"Good. Don’t miss a single one. Oh, and while you’re at it, rummage around and see if there’s anything valuable on this plane!"

After the call ended, the two men grew excited.

"Gou Liaozi, let’s hurry up and find the good stuff! We’ll split it fifty-fifty, just the two of us!"

They exchanged a look, seeing the same greedy excitement in each other’s eyes. It was just the two of them on the plane. If they weren’t going to score big, what were they waiting for?

And so, the two began to tear through the cabin, their excited yelps echoing through the fuselage from time to time.

In no time at all, a large pile of suitcases, backpacks, and other bags had formed in the center of the cabin.

They were all filled with valuables the two had plundered.

Since both men were shirtless, the crotches of their pants were now stuffed full of green bills.

"Chenyi, what do we do?"

In the first-class cabin, Bai Menghan nervously clutched Fang Chenyi’s clothes as she listened to the two sets of footsteps drawing closer.

Fang Chenyi, however, had a cold smirk on his face as he gently patted Bai Menghan’s back.

He was waiting, biding his time for the perfect opportunity. A moment later, it arrived.

Suddenly, the crackle of the radio sounded from outside again.

"Gou Liaozi! What’s the situation down there? What the hell are you two doing? Get a move on! Those bastards will be here in an hour!"

The two men, who were busy stuffing their pants, jumped at the sound of their boss’s voice and hurriedly replied.

"Boss, we’re gathering the valuables, almost done! But there’s too much stuff. The two of us can’t haul it all up!"

Hearing this, a grin spread across the leader’s weathered face. ’The more, the better,’ he thought. ’My only fear was that there’d be too little!’

With a wave of his hand, a dozen of his men ran over, all eager to go down and carry the loot. It was a no-brainer—everyone knew that "cleanup duty" was a plum gig.

The leader saw this and exploded in a fit of curses.

"You goddamn idiots! If you all go down, am I supposed to watch these hostages by myself?! You, you, you, you, you, and you! Get down there!"

The six men who were picked were ecstatic. They turned and sprinted toward the edge of the deck, terrified that if they were late, all the good stuff would be snatched up by someone else.

The remaining eleven, however, had the opposite reaction. They all hung their heads, looking completely dejected.

Seeing this, the leader waved his hand and bellowed encouragingly.

"Don’t worry, men! The good stuff we bring up, I’ll let you guys divide it up first!"

His words did the trick. The previously dejected pirates immediately started whooping and hollering.

Back in the cabin, once the radio call ended, Fang Chenyi gently patted Bai Menghan’s shoulder, signaling her to stay put. He then crept stealthily toward the doorway.

He gently pushed the door open. Peeking through the crack, he saw the two pirates with their heads down, fiddling with the money in the crotches of their pants.

A wicked grin spread across Fang Chenyi’s face. ’This is a perfect opportunity!’

As the thought crossed his mind, he pinched two special steel ball bearings in his hand and, out of habit, placed both of them in the pouch of his slingshot.

With a surge of strength, he easily drew the slingshot to its limit. After a quick glance to aim, he released his fingers. WHOOSH! WHOOSH! Two sharp whistles cut through the air, and in the blink of an eye, the two ball bearings were upon the men.

They were followed by two wet thuds. Before either man could react, the ball bearings had pierced straight through their necks, leaving two plumes of blood mist hanging in the air.

But that wasn’t all. As the twin mists of blood rose, they were followed by a CLANG! CLANG!

A moment later, two rays of sunlight lanced through two new holes in the fuselage, their beams crossing on the cabin floor.

THUMP. THUMP. The two pirates’ bodies collapsed to the floor.

Fang Chenyi himself was dumbstruck. He mumbled in disbelief.

"H-holy crap... Is... is this still a slingshot? This thing’s on par with a rifle!"

"Host’s query detected. System providing answer: Host is using special armor-piercing ball bearings. Their power is comparable to the penetration of a 7.62mm bullet."

’Comparable to a 7.62mm bullet? Damn, that’s insane! A slingshot that can rival a rifle! Badass!’

He didn’t have much time to process this, as the sound of THUMPING footsteps echoed from above.

Snapping back to his senses, Fang Chenyi took a few quick steps and positioned himself just outside the cockpit. With the cockpit in front of him and the first-class cabin to his side, it was the perfect spot for an ambush.

He listened carefully to the footsteps and roughly estimated there were about five or six people.

At this, Fang Chenyi breathed a small sigh of relief. He had been afraid that a dozen men would storm in at once. No matter how skilled he was, he wouldn’t be able to eliminate that many of them without being noticed.

From the sound of it, someone was coming down. But because the window was so small, they could only come through one at a time.

The first pirate to climb down the ladder let out a boisterous laugh. Without waiting for his companions, he gave a whoop and charged into the cabin. ’No way I’m waiting for them,’ he thought. ’If I’m too slow, there’ll be nothing left for me!’

Hearing the rapidly approaching footsteps, Fang Chenyi took a deep breath and slipped the slingshot back into his vest. His muscles tensed, his body coiled behind the door like a leopard poised to strike.

"Haha, treasure! Here I come!"

After the maniacal laugh, a figure rushed past the cockpit doorway.

Seizing the moment, Fang Chenyi shot out. The burly pirate, who had already rushed a meter past him, had no time to react before his vision went black and all the strength drained from his body.
