Chapter 126: A Broken Promise?
The horns...
They were the first thing she saw, and the sight of them left her heart thumping hard.
"You... You’re no student..."
Nova said as wings appeared out of her back.
She expected them to flap, taking her further back, but froze, witnessing as they leaned forward instead, and then flapped once.
In response, the horned man raised his hand and waved lightly to them.
The scene left Nova speechless.
Was wings waving hello to a Supernatural?
"What the... Who are you?"
She asked, backing off lightly.
Two horns, black wings... it was no doubt a Supernatural.
But that didn’t make any sense.
A Supernatural shouldn’t have been able to invade Xtremecyber.
Seeing that he only kept looking at her back off, without any sign of movement, Nova unconsciously came to a stop.
There was something about his expression.
She peered closer at the contours of his face.
Sharp, angular, with dark skin.
Nothing came to mind at all, but the softness in his blue eyes, the smile of relief that hung at the corner of his lips.
All of it was so familiar, and for a second, an image crossed her head, freezing her in her tracks.
"You... It’s... That’s not possible."
She forced out, every other word failing her.
"Hello, Nova."
He greeted.
"This... this can’t be."
He was dead.
Vice Mimura had personally told her that five months ago.
It had been five months since she had tried getting over his death.
There was no way this was him.
Yet what was this feeling of weakness in her knees that drove her to the ground as tears came spilling out of her eyes?
Her breathing became ragged, uneven, impossible to steady.
"There’s no way..."
She cried, trying to wipe away the tears, but they only flowed harder.
"There’s no way it’s you..."
Her hands, frantically wiping all at once, came to a stop as she felt a touch.
It was him, inches away, with a finger resting on her right hand.
His blue eyes stared into her glassy eyes, blue rays casting over her face.
"I’m sorry,"
He said, hands reaching to her face to wipe the tears, but paused inches away as if in fear.
The sight made her cry harder and, in the next moment, she rushed forward, knocking him down into the snow.
Tears rained down on White’s shoulders as Nova buried her face in his neck, gripping his back tightly.
"I... I thought... They said you died."
She forced out, as White held her closer.
His arms trembled slightly around her.
"I thought so too."
He whispered.
Nova’s cry echoed through the snow, drowned by the sound of snow falling harder.
Still, eventually it was reduced to tiny sobs, though she refused to leave, remaining wrapped tightly around him, like an infant who had finally laid a hand against its missing mother.
White simply stayed still, letting her hold on as long as she wished.
_______
STEP!
STEP!
The sound of footsteps echoed, and White turned his blue eyes slightly, looking into the distance.
There, running forward through the relentless snow, was a familiar figure surrounded by a pink halo.
Her breath came out in white bursts.
"Nova!"
"Nova, you there!"
Morgaine shouted, squinting her eyes for sight, but the world was too white as the snow battered her figure.
It was hard to find Nova’s seat with the snowfall being this heavy.
It should have been enough reason for her to turn back, but something told her that she was still here...Nova was still here somewhere in this heavy snow.
She drove forward relentlessly, only to pause when she suddenly noticed the snow rapidly thinning, the battering coming to a halt.
She looked around her, wondering if it was because the snow had receded, but no.
It was only in her direction that the snow had paused, drifting away inches from reaching her.
A quiet flicker of blue deep in the snow-white world caught her attention, and she sped forward.
"Nova! You’re gonna catch a cold if you keep this up."
"We need to go!"
She said as she came closer to the blue light, only to freeze about a meter away.
There, crumbled on the snow, was a horned creature, but what drew her attention was the person it held tightly in its hold.
It was Nova, sniffing quietly.
The sight of her tears made the gem on Morgaine’s head begin brightening like the sun, her eyes bursting into pink flames.
Her hands spread to the side as massive claws ripped out of her hands, snow hissing where sparks of heat touched it.
"Get your hands off of her!"
Her beastly growl was followed by the snow tilting violently as Morgaine bent downwards with both claws out, preparing to rip forward,
"No."
A whisper came from Nova that made every muscle in her freeze.
"It’s him, Morgaine. It’s White."
She said, and in that instant, the flames in her eyes were snuffed out as she rose to her feet.
Now she could see it more clearly.
The creature wasn’t holding Nova captive as she thought.
She was the one hugging him tightly.
"White?"
She asked herself, the flames from her pink claws quietly receding and she watched Nova nod her head quietly, with a broken smile.
"It’s... White?"
"Hello, Morgaine."
White greeted with a smile, watching Morgaine look at him in disbelief, but then her eyes took on a wild turn as flames furiously burst out.
"No!"
She called out, stepping forward.
"Morgaine, stop."
Her claws reached out, grabbing at White’s neck, flames bursting furiously.
"You were gone for half a year..."
"You left her to hurt for half a year!"
She roared out in anger, flames burning until even her gems erupted in flames.
It was a testament to her anger, but her body knew better.
Glassy tears came falling out of her eyes, rolling down despite the fire.
Before she could say anything more, White’s hands reached forward, gently guiding her down with a soft jerk, and she was pulled into his embrace.
"I’m sorry, Morgaine. I’m truly sorry."
In the freezing snow, the trio remained, finding warmth in the tight embrace of one another as the heavy snowfall drowned out the cries.
