70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 425: Gifts
The train chugged along, and Madam Chen and the others immediately came over, eagerly watching the train.
Xu Mumu smiled faintly. Although Grandpa and Grandma constantly scolded their sons, they still missed them.
When Old Xu Family disembarked with their whole family, Xu Mumu was momentarily bewildered. Each person was carrying a lot of stuff, big bags and small bags. Even the youngest, Xu Jiaojiao, was carrying a bag, which was quite large. No one knew what it contained, but since Xu Jiaojiao easily lifted it, the contents must not be heavy.
Xu Minghui and the others twitched their mouths, seeing the numerous items they were carrying, as if they were moving house.
"Mom and Dad." Xu Jiang and the others immediately spotted Madam Chen and company, mainly because Xu Mumu and Yin Yang were extraordinarily conspicuous in the crowd. Seeing Madam Chen, the brothers, along with their wives and children, promptly approached.
"Why are you carrying so much stuff?" Old Xu asked speechlessly, as Xu Minghui and the others were already helping to carry over the bags.
"Dad, didn’t you say to celebrate the New Year together? We brought the prepared New Year goods along with us, including the wedding gifts from Mumu’s grandfather’s side, and also the gifts from Uncle’s family. Mumu is getting married, and they couldn’t come from such a distance, so they sent the gifts with us. Since there are many of us, we can carry it all." Xu Po said with a smile.
"Let’s discuss this back at the house. It’s so much stuff; aren’t you tired?" Xu Mumu said helplessly, taking the bags from Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Wan, whose bags weren’t heavy.
This large group of people arrived in the yard, instantly filling it with liveliness.
Xu Mumu led them to see the allocated rooms where they would stay for the time being.
Lin Juan was extremely envious upon arriving at the yard. It was so spacious, and it belonged to Xu Mumu. Being a property in the Imperial City, selling it would fetch quite a sum. Her eyes were filled with jealousy.
But she dared not show it, having been repeatedly warned by Xu Jiang on the way that if she caused trouble, the old couple would surely deal with her. Moreover, she hoped Xu Mumu would help Dongbao a bit, so she didn’t dare stir up trouble.
Xu He and his brothers were also full of emotion. Such a spacious yard in the Imperial City was something they couldn’t achieve in a lifetime. No wonder their mother doted on Mumu; she indeed had foresight.
Xu Mumu was surveying the items brought by Old Xu Family, noticing there were quite a few, mostly prepared New Year goods, various snacks, along with smoked bacon and sausages.
The rest were gifts from Grandpa’s family, Great Uncle’s family, and Tiedan’s house.
Looking at the gifts from Grandpa’s family, Xu Mumu wasn’t too surprised: a pair of pure silver bracelets and cash gifts. Although not much money, Xu Mumu could tell her mother was probably right when she said that Grandpa had saved up some good stuff.
She wasn’t keen on Grandpa’s possessions; she was merely curious.
When Grandpa’s family sisters got married, she sent gifts back, all of good quality. However, compared to the silver bracelets sent by Grandpa, they seemed somewhat lacking.
Xu Mumu silently planned to send Grandpa some nice things for his birthday.
"I knew your Grandpa had hidden good things, and he’s been really good to you, better than when Xiuxiu got married," Li Caixia said with satisfaction.
"Mom." Xu Mumu said helplessly. If Aunt and Su Xiu saw these things, they’d probably cause a ruckus.
Great Uncle’s family sent money and not much else, while Tiedan’s house also sent cash along with some bacon. Tiedan specially sent a big red flower, made of plastic and quite pretty, with a letter inside asking her to wear it at her wedding.
"What’s so great about just a flower? Liu Cuixia is really stingy; what’s a flower worth?" Li Caixia grumbled disdainfully.
"Mom, it wasn’t from Cuihua. It was bought with Tiedan’s pocket money. I think it’s pretty nice," Xu Mumu said cheerfully. The little guy was thoughtful, and she planned to wear the flower at her wedding, either on her head or on her clothes.
"Little kid knows these things." Li Caixia didn’t say more. Liu Cuixia’s family wasn’t well-off, and offering that much cash was quite generous; Li Caixia was still satisfied.
All these items were carefully stored away, with the cash gifts noted in a small book to be reciprocated when needed.
Bacon and sausages were being organized by Madam Chen with the daughters-in-law. Thankfully, the third family’s members didn’t stir up trouble, and Dongbao obediently stayed with Lin Juan, making Madam Chen overlook past grievances and inquire directly about the current situation at their homes.
The second and fourth households were doing fairly well, with the fourth benefiting from rabbit business, earning some money over the past six months, and Xu Po renovating the fourth house.
The second household was doing well with Xu Xue’s earning skills, albeit the big money was in her hands, but she didn’t treat the family poorly; they were living comfortably.
As for the third household, Lin Juan and her half-brother worked at the shoe factory. The families occasionally clashed, causing chaos, making peaceful coexistence impossible.
Madam Chen listened calmly without commenting, knowing the third household’s situation was stable with work and support from the Old Lin Family, leaving her free from concern.
Qian Ying and Lin Juan didn’t mention borrowing money; Qian Ying wanted to save face for Lin Juan, while Lin Juan simply didn’t have any money to repay, pretending it wasn’t an issue.
Job opportunities weren’t easy to come by, and they were still waiting for news.
For Lin Juan, the job found was washing dishes at a state-run restaurant—though tiring, the pay was decent.
Moreover, working at a state-run restaurant was popular.
Fortunately, Xu Mumu wasn’t aware of their thoughts; otherwise, she’d feel they were missing out. Once private businesses started, state-run restaurants might turn to private ownership or even close.
So, finding work wasn’t as promising as starting a business. Even a small food stall could be lucrative.
Of course, she wouldn’t share these thoughts, nor would Xu Xue, who planned to enter the restaurant industry herself. She couldn’t guide the third household, considering their past unsympathetic behavior.
