Chapter 479: Discovery of the Robbery Tunnel

Hearing Yin Yang’s introduction of this polygonum multiflorum, Xu Mumu’s eyes lit up. It was indeed a great treasure. They had just set out, and already had such a harvest. This trip was really profitable.

"When we get back, I’ll have someone take one of these polygonum multiflorum, make it into pills, and let grandpa, grandma, mom, dad, all of them have some. We’ll keep the rest for ourselves." Yin Yang shared his plan with Xu Mumu.

"I’ll listen to you." Xu Mumu said happily, this thing is indeed good stuff.

Carefully storing the polygonum multiflorum away, they decided not to continue looking for mushrooms as the sky began to darken.

Returning to the cave, they rekindled the fire. Outside were the calls of small animals. Xu Mumu placed the mushrooms on a stone slab toward the cave entrance so they could also catch the night breeze.

Gnawing on a rabbit leg, Xu Mumu felt a bit greasy with all the meat. The fragrant smell of the milky mushroom soup in the pot made her swallow silently.

Soon, it was stir-fried. Xu Mumu had a bite; it tasted really good. Even Yin Yang found the taste delightful, though there wasn’t much, and it got finished after just a few bites.

"This milky mushroom is indeed delicious, just too little." Xu Mumu wiped her mouth, acknowledging the idyllic life wasn’t very comfortable, all greasy and sweaty, only able to do a simple clean at the mountain stream, unlike enjoying a hot bath at home.

But there were still many perks of being on the mountain; plenty of game to hunt for whatever you wanted to eat.

"Tomorrow, we’ll keep an eye out for those mushrooms. We’ll pick any tasty ones we find." Yin Yang said calmly. Having stayed in the cave for over a day, he missed home a bit.

Early the next morning, Xu Mumu found a big stone to block most of the cave entrance, leaving the mushrooms to bask in the sunlight. Seeing the hot weather, it surely wouldn’t rain again these days.

The two wandered playfully in the deep mountains. However, the mountain had a lot of mosquitoes and insects. Despite Yin Yang’s simple herbal packets, Xu Mumu still ended up with a bite on her arm, feeling a bit itchy and unable to resist scratching it.

"Stop scratching; you’ll just make the bump bigger." Yin Yang held Xu Mumu’s hand to stop her from scratching.

"It’s not that fun outside anyway. Tomorrow, let’s go a bit further and then head back." Xu Mumu had lost interest in this part of the deep mountain, only drawn by the wild mushrooms.

"Alright, whatever you say." Yin Yang secretly sighed in relief, wondering if his adventurous wife had finally had enough wandering. Now, home was much more comfortable than the mountain.

"Don’t you think it’s unusually quiet in the mountain? Grandma said there are bears and tigers here. We’ve come so far, but other than the wolf pack at the beginning, we haven’t encountered anything else, not even big animals." Xu Mumu cracked open a walnut, nibbling on the kernel inside while listening to the surroundings, sharing her observations with Yin Yang.

"Indeed, this doesn’t seem like a deep mountain, even small animals are rare." Yin Yang nodded, frowning slightly.

"Let’s keep moving forward and see." Xu Mumu cracked open two more walnuts and handed them to Yin Yang. She carried a bag half-filled with walnuts, eating them along the way, enjoying their fresher taste compared to dried ones, crunchy and to her liking.

As they walked forward, continuously fed by his wife, Yin Yang felt he might skip dinner, having filled himself with walnuts.

"Mumu, I can’t eat anymore. You finish the rest." Yin Yang said after taking a sip from his water pouch, feeling bloated. He hadn’t realized as he ate how full he was, but after a break, he felt the fullness, having eaten quite a few along the way.

"I’m full too. I’ll peel the rest off and save them for later." Being strong had its advantages; even though walnut shells are hard, she easily cracked them open.

Yin Yang nodded, searching around for familiar protective herbs. There were plenty of herbs on the mountain, rarely picked, which were to his benefit.

After a short rest, they set out again. As Xu Mumu walked, she suddenly heard a noise, coming from underground.

"You think there’s a tomb nearby? It sounds like there’s something below. Could there be tomb robbers around here?" Xu Mumu squinted her eyes slightly.

"Let’s search around. Be careful." Yin Yang turned serious. Tomb raiders typically carried weapons.

The two searched the area. Xu Mumu quickly found a large hole, blasted open with explosives. Soft ladders were placed around it to descend.

Xu Mumu and Yin Yang exchanged glances; this tomb was not small. How did those grave robbers even find this place?

"Should we go down and take a look?" Xu Mumu’s eyes burned with curiosity at the large hole, asking Yin Yang. Truth be told, she was curious about what was below.

"Don’t go. Large ancient tombs like this are generally dangerous. Let’s wait here for them to come out and capture them directly." Yin Yang held Xu Mumu back, preventing her from taking the risk.

"Sounds good. Since there’s a big tomb here, reporting it and capturing the tomb robbers should earn us a reward, right?" Xu Mumu said cheerfully, not that she needed the money.

"It should, I guess." Yin Yang chuckled, unsure why she was so money-oriented when she was clearly not lacking any, and earning a bit more wasn’t hard for her.

They waited there, with Xu Mumu unable to sit still, searching the area for any other exits.

Searching for half a day and finding nothing else, so she gave up.

Instead of another entrance, they found a simple cave nearby with some stuff inside, presumably belonging to the tomb raiders.

The two hid behind a giant tree, big enough to take both of them to wrap around, waiting for the people inside to come out.

Not having a clue how long those inside would take, they watched the entrance closely.

Bored, Xu Mumu fiddled with a walnut, while her dagger was placed at the most convenient spot to reach, making it easy to draw if necessary.

"Mumu, those folks have explosives. Don’t be rash if anyone comes out." Yin Yang advised seriously, watching Xu Mumu.

"Don’t worry, I know. My life is precious." Xu Mumu nodded.

In the late afternoon, the group finally started climbing up.

Xu Mumu watched them. There were eight people in total, quite a number, each looking fierce and strong, likely professionals in their field.

Out of them, two were injured. One had a bleeding leg, and the other had a broken arm, blood dripping down even though it was bandaged.
