70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 506: A Good Start
The market stall got bustling, Xu Mumu and Madam Chen were both getting busy, even Old Xu got busy. There were quite a few people from the factory here, but only some were willing to buy food. Despite this, the potatoes Xu Mumu and the others had peeled were still not enough to sell, even the cold noodles sold out quickly.
Old Xu, while keeping an eye on the cart, helped peel and chop the potatoes, leaving these tasks to Xu Mumu.
The stall’s unexpectedly booming business gave Madam Chen immense confidence. Potatoes, which don’t cost much, and the ingredients for cold noodles aren’t expensive either, but in that period, the items they brought were nearly sold out.
The business here was so good it even affected the nearby stalls: the vegetables sold by the woman next door to Xu Mumu also sold out early, and the steamed buns were also selling well.
Xu Mumu and the others were done selling early, and Madam Chen felt a bit regretful. She had been cautious and didn’t bring much, only wanted to test the waters, never expecting such good business—it was a big loss.
On the way back, Madam Chen was still talking about her frustration, and Xu Mumu listened with a smile; having some work for grandma keeps her from getting bored.
"Grandma, making too much is exhausting; this is just right. We just push a little cart outside the factory and sell for a short time without getting tired, and we still make money," Xu Mumu said with a smile. After all, grandma and grandpa are getting older, and she didn’t want them to be as busy as Yin Yang and Xu Minghui.
"I’m not tired at all. Old man, I’ll cook when we get back, and you should go buy more materials, we’ll take more tomorrow," Madam Chen said spiritedly, even arranging tasks for her old man.
"Alright," Old Xu nodded in agreement with his wife’s words; after tasting the sweetness of making money, he wanted to earn more.
After moving to the provincial city for so long and being at home doing nothing but watching TV, it got pretty boring.
Now that there’s something to do, he felt full of energy.
Xu Mumu and Xu Minglei exchanged a glance; never mind, persuading them is pointless, just let them keep busy, even if it’s tiring to do too much.
Back home, the first thing to do, naturally, was to count the money.
The money in the bag was all small change, making it troublesome to count, so Xu Mumu left the task to Xu Minglei.
Xu Minglei wasn’t bothered by the small change and quickly counted it, worrying he might have counted wrong, he even counted it twice.
"How much? How much?" Madam Chen asked excitedly, watching Xu Minglei.
"It’s over twenty bucks; if we take more tomorrow, we can definitely earn more," Xu Minglei said with a smile, cheerful that the over twenty bucks almost matched his mom’s half-month salary.
"So much! Quick, put it away. Old man, let’s go buy stuff," Madam Chen was thrilled.
Xu Mumu had a headache; grandma dragged grandpa away, and she smiled helplessly. Their business was booming, so imitating competitors would probably appear in a couple of days. Sticking to just these three items, they wouldn’t make much money, as others would have more tricks up their sleeves.
Oh well, better not dampen grandma and grandpa’s enthusiasm.
Once they left, Xu Mumu headed to the kitchen to finish cooking.
The household ingredients had been prepared well in advance by Madam Chen since there wasn’t much to do, so everything was ready.
There was a mix of meat and vegetables, making it very good and healthy.
She stir-fried some vegetables, made a tofu soup, a dish of twice-cooked pork, and some stewed beans with meat.
When Xu Mumu finished cooking, everyone was back home; Yin Yang helped her carry the food out.
The main room was bustling; when Li Caixia heard about how much they earned, she wanted to quit her job and join in—earning as much as they did in one day, just imagine the monthly total.
Not only was Li Caixia tempted, but Xu Hai also got excited. Despite being promoted to a team leader at the factory, there wasn’t really a future for him there.
"Son-in-law, give me some ideas, any advice on good ways to earn money?" Yin Yang brought out the dishes, and Xu Hai immediately pulled him aside to talk. Everyone knew this son-in-law was impressive, as the family knew some things about Yin Yang’s ventures.
"What does Dad want to do?" Yin Yang asked warmly. There were plenty of ways to make money; it just depended on what his in-laws could manage.
"Dad? Are you not planning to work at the factory anymore?" Xu Mumu emerged with a pot of rice, noticing her dad’s yearning. In fact, starting a business sounded good too.
"There’s no future there; I see your venture is making quite a profit," Xu Hai said enviously.
"Dad, if you really want to quit, why not come help me? My department store is about to open, and it’ll surely be busy," Xu Minghui said calmly.
"No way! You won’t pay me a salary, and even if you did, it wouldn’t match what you’d earn running your own business," Xu Hai was already discontent with his meager paycheck.
"Suit yourself," Xu Minghui rolled his eyes, knowing his father’s personality all too well. Judging by his father’s demeanor, he knew exactly what he was thinking.
"Dinner’s served. If you’re serious about it, let’s talk after the New Year; I’ll think of something for you then," Xu Mumu coaxed her dad.
"Ah, my daughter is the best—the son was born just to annoy me," Xu Hai beamed, still couldn’t resist teasing his own son.
Xu Mumu’s mouth twitched—the truth is, her dad hadn’t changed a bit over the years. Fortunately, she and her brother weren’t kids anymore and got along well; otherwise, who knows what they’d think.
The meal was lively, to say the least.
After returning next door, Yin Yang embraced her, "Did you get tired today?" He asked, his gaze gentle.
"Not at all, I just helped with adding some seasoning; the ingredients were all prepared in advance.
"Good," Yin Yang nodded, "I don’t want you to get tired; I can support you completely."
The next day, when Xu Mumu got up, there were already several sacks of materials in the main room next door. Her mouth twitched; were grandma and grandpa a bit too eager?
"Grandpa, where’s Grandma? Why haven’t I seen her?" Xu Mumu asked right away, finding Old Xu watching TV with his little grandson.
"She went out to buy meat, says she knows how to make meat-stuffed buns and plans to try selling them today," Old Xu replied nonchalantly. Since they had the stove, it would be nice to make meat buns there. He was all for it.
"Grandma doesn’t mind keeping busy, huh," Xu Mumu said, a bit helpless, realizing the whole family just couldn’t stay idle.
"It’s not busy; making more money means a prosperous New Year," he said excitedly. The home’s first success was a great motivator.
"Is the flour ready?" Xu Mumu didn’t want to dampen their enthusiasm—let them have their fun, it wouldn’t lead to anything big anyway.
