At that moment, Henry put down the teacup he was holding and stood up to press down Leviâs gun-wielding hand. He spoke lazily, "I said this woman wonât budge, hard or soft. Now do you believe me?"
As he talked, he slightly squinted his eyes and glanced at Brand behind me, then laughed lightly and continued, "This boy canât die now. Put away your gun, Levi!"
I didnât know what was going through Henryâs mind, but I felt relieved when I heard him say those words.
Levi indeed feared Donald and Burton but I wasnât sure he wouldnât kill Brand in a fit of impulse, or shoot me!
Either of these two situations, should they occur, were something I couldnât accept at this moment.
Leviâs hand slowly lowered, while my back broke into a cold sweat, and Brand even ungracefully collapsed on the sofa behind.
"Neither Margaret nor Brand can be touched; what is this, taking two hostages or welcoming two mighty deities? I can leave those two alone, but you need to come up with a way to deal with Donald, otherwise, weâre all doomed!" Levi, somewhat irritable, paced back and forth in the basement, seemingly helpless against Henryâs actions.
My clenched fist slowly relaxed, but just then, I felt a wave of pain in my abdomen. Suppressing my increasingly heavy breathing, I leaned on the back of the nearby sofa.
Brand was the first to notice my movement. He sat up straight and moved closer, his shoulder supporting my slightly tilted body. Worry and panic filled his downturned eyes.
"I didnât ally with you just to watch you bring about your own doom. Youâd better think of a solution to these problems fast, or donât blame me for turning my back on you!"
As if wary of me being nearby, Levi didnât disclose all the difficulties they were facing at the moment. Although nearly desperate, his mind was still crystal clear.
Henry remained silent as if he couldnât feel Leviâs urgency.
Meanwhile, the pain in my abdomen became more pronounced. A cold sweat formed on my forehead. Taking a deep breath, I slowly sat down with the support of Brandâs shoulder, trying to appear natural.
But Henry was a man with incredibly keen senses. Almost instantly, he noticed something was amiss with me. Lifting his eyes, he looked straight at me, "Whatâs wrong with you? Why are you breathing so heavily?"
I turned my head, daring not to meet Henryâs gaze. Even forcing a cold laugh, I responded, "Nothingâs wrong. Canât I just sit down and enjoy the show you two are putting on?"
"Really? But the expression on your face tells a different story," Henry leaned in, peering at my expression, his eyes darkening.
I somewhat hated that Levi didnât continue speaking to distract Henryâs attention. Lifting my gaze, I breathed heavily, my face filled with defiance as I continued, "What does it have to do with you how I am feeling!"
Henry seemed momentarily speechless at my words, and then got up and came closer, his large hand seizing my chin, forcing me to look directly into his unshielded eyes.
"Let her go! She just ate too much and her stomach is unwell, she needs to rest! Let go of her!" Brand stepped forward, grasping Henryâs hand, and hurriedly offered an explanation.
I grabbed Henryâs wrist, my eyes revealing a bone-chilling coldness and a dangerous warning.
Perplexed by the scene, but seeing Brand dare to physically challenge Henry, Levi immediately stepped forward, using a few deft maneuvers to subdue the young man to the ground!
"Boy, youâve got quite the nerve, even daring to touch the hands of this genius Medical Practitioner. Do you have a death wish?" Levi looked down at the youth he pinned to the ground, his mouth curling into a mocking smile.
At this point, I could not care about protecting Brand anymore. Pain wracked my belly so severely I nearly lost all my strength. I bit down on my teeth and glared at Henry in front of me, unwilling to plead with him but also too weak to struggle!
Henryâs gaze was complex as he looked at me. For a few moments, it was as if Donald was watching me, but, in brutal reality, Donald would never treat me so roughly; he was always a gentle and considerate husband.
Enduring the pain didnât reduce it one bit; in fact, it seemed to be intensifying. A moment came when I couldnât suppress a pained grunt, not very loud, but enough to spark surprise and astonishment in Henryâs eyes.
He seemed to act on instinct, easing his grip on me, and at that moment, I lost all support and collapsed onto the ground like a puddle of water!
I lowered my head, unwilling to let these people see me in my current state of weakness, my hands instinctively protecting my abdomen as I started to moan in pain quietly.
"Whatâs wrong with her? Did she really get sick from something she ate?"
"Damn it! Let me go! Margaret? You..."
Levi and Brandâs voices drifted in and out of my hearing. Biting down on my pale lips, a fierce sense of unease and fear surged through me!
Out of nowhere, Henryâs voice arose, his gaze heavy upon me, "This doesnât look like any ordinary stomach ailment. Never mind the kid for now, go out and call the Medical Practitioner in for me!"
