Abandoned Omega: Wanted by the Bigshots in the Military Academy
Chapter 32: Congratulations, Pheromone Concentration Has Increased
Alphas and Omegas are genetically drawn to each other.
An Omega’s pheromones can trigger an Alpha’s rut, and likewise, an Alpha’s pheromones will also cause a physical reaction in an Omega.
But if one had to compare, Alphas are more heavily affected.
An Alpha’s pheromones might, at most, make an Omega blush, but an Omega’s pheromones can turn a rational, calm Alpha into a beast in an instant.
Yet Zoe Pierce’s expression wasn’t just free of any blush—she looked completely normal, not the least bit affected.
Zoe Pierce touched the glands on her neck, which were covered by a barrier patch, and asked with a certain lack of common sense, "Could it be because I’m wearing a barrier patch?"
’That must be why I don’t feel anything.’ 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Erin Xavier wanted to refute her. ’Of course not. As long as you’re an Omega, you’ll feel pheromones this strong the moment they touch your skin.’
But he suddenly realized that Zoe’s current behavior showed she didn’t seem to understand what it meant to be unable to sense pheromones or have unresponsive glands.
’If I spelled it out for her, it would be like bluntly telling her she was disabled.’
’No different from mocking her to her face.’
’That would be too cruel.’
His brow furrowed. His heart softened a little, and he changed what he was about to say. "Maybe."
It was a white lie.
Sure enough, Zoe Pierce took Erin Xavier’s word for it without a second thought.
The main reason was that she only knew about the six genders in the ABO world. She really didn’t know much when it came to the detailed physiological knowledge of secondary sex characteristics.
"Later, you should go to Nathan’s place for a check-up and see if it can still be treated."
Erin Xavier figured Zoe Pierce’s family probably couldn’t afford a top-tier Omega specialist, so he thought it would be a good idea for her to get a check-up after the joint exam.
Saying this meant that no matter what Zoe did during the joint exam, no matter how much she screwed up, he would guarantee she could get that check-up, or at least have her condition looked at.
He waved a hand in front of him again, ordering Zoe, "Spray some of your air freshener."
Now that the danger had passed, his fussy and hard-to-please personality resurfaced.
Zoe Pierce took out the freshener and sprayed it, and soon the scent of pinewood in the air began to fade.
Chase Shaw had already stood up by now. The comforting had been faster and more effective than usual; it seemed to have no lingering effects on him at all.
His gaze fell on Zoe Pierce again. For a moment, he actually considered hiring her as his personal Comforter.
"Oh, right. I just found some new Xenobeasts in the breeding room." The moment Erin Xavier spoke, both Zoe Pierce and Chase Shaw whipped their heads around to look at him.
He held up a hand, gesturing for them to calm down. "Don’t be nervous. If they were really that dangerous, I wouldn’t have waited until now to say something."
That was true. Erin Xavier had never been unreliable in that regard.
He led the two of them toward a collapsed corner, where Zoe Pierce saw what kind of Xenobeasts Erin had been talking about.
In the collapsed corner was a small nest padded with cotton for warmth. Lying inside were two Xenobeasts that looked just like the one Chase Shaw had just killed.
One of them lay to the side, its body visibly purple. It was clearly dead.
The other wasn’t faring much better. It lay on its back, its thin skin barely rising and falling. It looked as if even a slightly harder breath would be its last.
Both Xenobeasts were tiny, no bigger than the palm of a hand.
The moment Erin Xavier saw these two young Xenobeasts, he understood why they had been attacked so fiercely.
It was no surprise that Zoe Pierce and Chase Shaw now stood in silence.
As the three stood in silence, a low chime sounded from an Intelligent Brain.
It was Miles Sherman and the others, replying in the group chat: "Coming back now."
Erin Xavier briefly updated them on the situation at the entrance. Zoe Pierce moved closer to the Xenobeast and looked up at Chase Shaw. "What do we do with this Xenobeast?"
She was unfamiliar with this Xenobeast and didn’t know what species it was.
But seeing the way it was using all its strength just to barely breathe, she knew it could die at any moment.
It was so frail. Zoe Pierce didn’t even know if it still needed to be nursed.
’But they were the ones who killed its parent.’
Compared to Zoe Pierce’s empathy, Chase Shaw was clearly much colder. "These Xenobeasts aren’t on the registered list. They were most likely created through special crossbreeding. The school will definitely want to retrieve them for research."
Only then did Zoe Pierce realize this Xenobeast wasn’t a known species.
Her expression immediately grew complicated. She knew Chase Shaw was right.
"This Xenobeast’s spiritual power is too strong. Its physical body can’t keep up at all," Erin Xavier added from the side.
’In that case, these Xenobeasts will have to be taken for research, no matter what.’
Although it was obvious these Xenobeasts were victims created by human manipulation, if they were left unchecked, they would become perpetrators themselves.
The war between Xenobeasts and humans was not over yet.
Zoe Pierce sighed inwardly and suppressed her soft-heartedness.
It wasn’t that the three of them were completely unmoved. Before Miles Sherman and the others arrived, they stood quietly to the side, watching the tiny Xenobeast struggle for breath.
But the Xenobeast was already on its last legs. Lying in its nest, its limbs, as thin as matchsticks, suddenly spasmed violently a few times. Its thin skin contracted, and in the space of a single breath, its small body suddenly went rigid, then ceased to move altogether.
It lay still beside the other one, which was already blue and purple, never to move again.
The three of them had watched the Xenobeast die from beginning to end.
They hadn’t intervened.
A set of footsteps approached from the warehouse door. The three of them stood stunned for a few seconds before turning slightly. Leading the group were none other than Miles Sherman and Nathan Lockwood, followed by teachers holding Space Buttons.
"Zoe Pierce," Nathan Lockwood called out, his voice the first to be heard.
After calling her name, he looked her up and down.
Other than some dirt on her clothes, she had no hidden injuries.
As the only Omega of the three, the teachers also prioritized her condition. "Zoe Pierce, are you alright? Go sit down and rest for a bit."
For a moment, Zoe Pierce couldn’t quite grasp the situation. She dazedly allowed herself to be seated while the doctor who had examined her before expertly took out an instrument to check her vitals.
"Doctor, I’m not hurt, my spiritual power is fine, and the pheromones didn’t affect me." Zoe Pierce honestly reported everything before the doctor could even express their concern.
She pointed at Chase Shaw. "Doctor, it would be better to check on him. Chase Shaw was just affected by that Xenobeast’s spiritual power, and his own spiritual power went rampant."
’It’s only been a few days, and this has already happened to Chase Shaw twice.’
Zoe Pierce felt like this joint exam wasn’t going smoothly for anyone.
The doctor didn’t even turn his head. "You must have soothed his spiritual power, didn’t you? Let’s check on you first."
’People who claim they’re perfectly fine usually have something wrong with them.’
But clearly, Zoe Pierce wasn’t that kind of person. Her vital signs were completely normal.
In fact...
"Did your pheromone concentration have a blessing in disguise? It went up by 2. Congratulations, you’ve passed the 10-point mark."
’Doctor, it sounds like you’re trying to tell a dry joke.’
