"Charge!" the Malar commanded as the army responded.

They moved forward, their steps making the ground tremble while their silver armor gleamed under the sun.

The demon army attacked as well, their bodies overflowing with energy. The number they had killed earlier was not much after all, it was only those near the city gate. But now they could sense even more souls behind this army. Besides, this fifty-thousand-strong force was a massive feast to them.

And so the two armies collided.

The first line of soldiers on the Malar’s side instantly turned into blood mist, and what followed was a massacre as humans were ripped apart. Their limbs, like dangling sticks, were broken and devoured.

Their silver armor quickly turned red as the demon army charged forward unstoppably.

None of the soldiers could even last a second as they died in the most gruesome and horrifying ways imaginable.

The Malar and the Martial Warriors were stunned.

This...?

Of course, they had heard how terrifying demons were from the main battlefield, but experiencing it personally was on an entirely different level.

Their strength had been greatly understated. No amount of men could stop them.

Even some Martial Warriors thought about discarding their weapons and fleeing, but seeing their numbers, although smaller, they believed that if they cooperated with the remaining army, they could still....

With that thought, the Martial Warriors charged into battle as they collided with the demon army.

But

Their expressions rapidly changed.

No matter how powerful their attacks were, the demons barely reacted. They could not hurt them.

At the back, the Malar watched in horror as his Martial Warriors were slaughtered one after another.

It was too late for them to run.

The Malar’s eyes became lifeless as he witnessed a scene he had never imagined possible.

It was like a nightmare come true as his men were killed one after another.

Finally, a shadow blocked his view, pulling him back to reality.

His army had disappeared.

His Martial Warriors were all gone.

He had expected a battle. Even if they could not win easily, he believed they would only have to sacrifice a few thousand soldiers.

When he heard there were merely one thousand demons, he had grown confident.

No matter how strong they were, could a thousand truly kill fifty thousand?

Not to mention the addition of Martial Warriors.

He thought he had prepared for this.

But alas...

It was already over.

"Wait, pleas—"

His words were cut off as his head was ripped from his body.

---

At the city gate...

Nuk watched his army dismantle the humans with relish.

Soon, a middle-level demon approached and bowed before presenting a severed head to Nuk.

A symbol of victory.

A sign that they had killed the leader of their enemies.

Seeing that not a single demon had died made Nuk realize that compared to this "human" race, they were several leagues stronger.

So he simply let them loose.

"Go. Devour," Nuk commanded.

The demons roared before charging into the main city.

Watching their backs disappear, Nuk sighed.

"Are they really that dumb?" Nuk thought.

They had killed nearly seventy thousand beings and devoured their souls, yet their ranks had not changed at all.

The only explanation was that when they were summoned, they had already entered a contract, one that transferred all the souls they gathered to another being.

That was why Nuk did not fight them for souls and instead merely stood at the back and observed.

Sighing once more, Nuk walked slowly through the city, observing the buildings still standing.

Although most had already become ruins, the few remaining structures were still worth checking out.

He was not in a rush.

After all, two hundred thousand people was a lot, not to mention the ones hiding and struggling to survive.

It was simply the nature of conscious creatures.

So he was not too surprised.

All he could do was enjoy this little trip.

But he had been exposed to one important thing, communication and life among demons.

It was based not only on strength, but also on trickery.

He would never have discovered he had already signed a contract if he had not noticed the demons devouring souls without any change occurring in their bodies.

Sighing once more, Nuk finally reached the main city.

And all he could say was..

Tragedy had befallen it.

Screams echoed everywhere as people desperately tried to hide.

Some hid inside buildings, while others continued running as demons hunted and played with them.

What caught Nuk’s attention was a woman standing between a low-level demon and her child.

She seemed determined not to move.

The low-level demon also appeared confused.

Why was she not afraid?

Why was she not running?

Of course, it did not think deeply about it. Its beastly instincts were all it relied upon.

Then..

Smack!

The woman slapped the demon across the face.

Silence followed.

The demon had actually been attacked by such a weak creature.

And although it could sense her fear, she still refused to run.

For a brief moment, the demon paused, unsure of what to do.

Then suddenly, it growled and bit her head off.

"Mama!" the child screamed.

But he was next.

His body was ripped apart moments later.

And scenes like this were happening all across the city.

For the low and middle-level demons, this was the first time they had encountered a race this weak.

They had spent their entire lives fighting other demons, subconsciously believing that all races possessed strong bodies like theirs or at least had the ability to threaten them.

But discovering such a weak race filled them with excitement as they slaughtered humans one after another.

The massacre continued until evening.

Not because everyone was dead, but because the survivors had hidden themselves away while the demons played a cruel game of cat and mouse with them.

Nuk ignored the demons as he walked toward the center of the city.

There, he could see a massive structure stretching high into the sky.

This was definitely where the rulers of this city had lived.

Nuk looked at the horror-filled eyes of a man before crushing his head casually.

Seeing it burst apart, Nuk chuckled as he entered the building.

Of course, to demons, souls were visible, so the humans were never truly safe. The demons could sense and locate them easily, but they seemed to enjoy the thrill of searching slowly for the humans.

So they played with them instead.

As for this, Nuk let them be.

After all, it was entertaining even for him.

But inside this building...

He could not only sense human souls, he also felt a strange tug deep within his heart.

Something dangerous was hidden beneath this building.

And he wanted to find it.

So Nuk entered, following the feeling pulling him forward.

He walked directly toward the main hall, but along the way, two figures suddenly emerged from the ground and shouted:

"You vile beast, stay away from the young mistress!"

They drew their swords and charged toward Nuk.

Nuk felt his face twitch slightly.

He had clearly sensed them earlier, yet he had neither approached nor searched for trouble with them.

But instead, they came looking for him.

Nuk did not even raise his hands.

His tail whipped outward instantly.

The two figures exploded into bloody paste.

Thump...

A frightened sound echoed from nearby.

That must have been the "mistress" they were trying to protect.

Nuk stopped and looked in her direction for a moment.

With his enhanced hearing, he could hear her pounding heartbeat and trembling body filled with fear.

Nuk smiled slightly before turning away and continuing onward.

The mistress was merely a young girl, barely eighteen years old.

Unable to withstand the terror, she fainted on the spot.
