Chapter 65: Chapter 57 How Geniuses Learn

The second-year curriculum is centered on the basics of Fighting Aura and the Dragon-slaying Sword.

Long Yi is no stranger to Fighting Aura techniques. He could learn them effortlessly, as if he understood them from the pit of his stomach. But the usage of the Dragon-slaying Sword was quite new to him.

After all, Long Yi comes from an era of hot weapons, using cold weapons had largely become a thing of showmanship and wasn’t mainstream anymore.

In aerial combat, a Dragon Knight must manipulate his mount in a fight, while himself wielding the Dragon-slaying Sword. Seeing this as the pivotal part of aerial battles, Long Yi wouldn’t gloss over the details despite having never learned it firsthand. Relying on his natural grasp for martial arts, he easily came to realize what he lacked.

Ai Lin was a genius of geniuses. Learning anything came with unimaginable ease to her. That applied to martial arts too! The downside, however, was that as a Magic Fighter, she couldn’t use a Dragon-slaying Sword. She didn’t even have a dragon to ride. In battle, she would fight upfront on her own!

Bajie hippity-hopped towards Long Yi and presented him with a Dragon-slaying Sword. The crowd gasped as they recognized the same sword that the third Crown Prince scornfully threw at Long Yi. The broad face of the sword still bore the marks from when Long Yi had caught it.

Everyone’s eyes about popped out of their heads.

Long Yi had kept that sword! Wasn’t he worried about it weighing him down? This very sword served as irrefutable evidence of the third Crown Prince’s aggressive act against Long Yi. While the Emperor had not taken drastic actions against Long Yi just yet, it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t hold Long Yi accountable eventually. If the Emperor suddenly went crazy one day, finding Long Yi still carrying that sword may stir his humiliation, causing trouble for Long Yi.

Long Yi didn’t worry too much though. His flashy and handsome Frostmourne had been taken away by Elsa, and while he didn’t mind Elsa having it, the loss left him feeling indifferent about other swords. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Thus, he simply picked up the marked sword, gave it a quick clean, and began using it as his Dragon-slaying Sword.

Long Yi was intensely absorbed in his learning, every swing of the sword precisely coordinated with every muscle in his body. His seriousness even took the instructor by surprise. The latter had thought the naturally gifted Dual Dragon Knight like Long Yi would be too arrogant to pay attention.

But to everyone’s surprise, Long Yi immersed himself completely in his practice!

Indeed, he lived up to his reputation of a prodigy.

Long Yi naturally possessed a genius’s understanding of martial arts while his bodily coordination was far superior to others. There were two ways of using the Dragon-slaying Sword. When fighting against a dragon the main techniques used were slashing and piercing, but when the fight moved between Dragon Knights, sword techniques came into play. These, however, were stuff of third or even fourth year of learning.

But, what if you channeled Fighting Aura into the sword itself?

Whoosh!

A strand of sword aura cut through the ground and shot towards the sword aura stone, leaving a white mark where it collided.

This was the sword’s aura! What an amazing feeling! Its power far surpasses that of Dragon Roar Fist! So merging the Fighting Aura with the Dragon-slaying Sword enhances its power this much! Overjoyed by the discovery, Long Yi struck out the Dragon-slaying Sword again. The resulting sword aura was even more tangible than before!

Crack!

The sword aura struck the stone, leaving an even larger white mark.

The instructor was gobsmacked.

He was certain that Long Yi could barely wield the Dragon-slaying Sword initially. But almost as soon as Long Yi grew comfortable with the weapon, an aura of the sword emerged!

Wasn’t this pushing it?

While the sword aura was foundational to Dragon-slaying Swordsmanship, nobody had taught Long Yi that! Moreover, each aura from Long Yi being better than the previous made it apparent that he had just mastered the technique and was now perfecting it!

This freak of nature! No wonder nobody was a match for him! Gifted with the skills of a Dual Dragon Knight along with such an incredible pace of learning, who could possibly stand up against him?

The instructor turned to check on Ai Lin.

Meanwhile, Ai Lin could only rest her cheek in her palm, looking somewhat bored while observing Long Yi. As a Magic Fighter who didn’t have a Dragon-slaying Sword to practice with, all she could do was to idle away the time during swordsmanship lessons.

However, this issue would soon be resolved, for in the second year, Dragon Fighters and Dragon Mages received separate practical lessons. It appeared there had been a mix-up with Ai Lin’s course selection, she should be able to join the classes for Dragon Mages starting the next session.

The practice session came to an end with everyone taking a break, everyone but Long Yi who continued to earnestly practice his sword swings. To him, mastering the techniques was just one aspect, but making them second nature was a whole another aspect.

Long Yi’s powers were not just gifted, it was the fruit of the rigorous training he put in for eighteen years!

After watching for a while, Luo Qi jumped, proposed loudly, "Instructor, Long Yi is so amazing. How about letting him give us some pointers?"

No sooner had he finished speaking, there was a outburst of protest. Who was Long Yi? A Dual Dragon Knight! Before, when nobody knew him, it didn’t matter. But now, who would be reckless enough to call him out for a fight?

But Luo Qi had his mind set differently. Despite being powerful, every Dual Dragon Knight could exhaust their strength, and he didn’t believe that Long Yi would have the endurance to defeat everyone."

"Good point," the instructor agreed, as he too was interested in observing Long Yi’s combat abilities.

Upon hearing the suggestion, Long Yi stopped and stuck his sword into the ground. "All at once," he suggested.

Luo Qi, however, smiled and replied, "We can’t take advantage of you like that. Let’s do this instead: we take turns and learn from you!"

One after another?

This birdbrain really is as cheap, thinking they can beat me with a war of attrition?

They’re so naive!

I don’t even fear group fights, why would I fear your war of attrition?

At first, Luo Qi was quite pleased with his plan. He knew that Long Yi was strong. But no matter how strong a person is, there’s always a limit. The entire Air Force Division has got so many people, how could Long Yi keep going strong with everybody wearing him down?

However, as time passed, the sounds of screams and moans were constantly ringing in his ears. Yet, there’s not a single sign of fatigue from Long Yi!

Damn it! Does this freak not know what exhaustion means?

Gazing at fewer and fewer faces before him, Luo Qi started to feel an inexplicable fear. Especially when Long Yi knocked someone down, he would always give Luo Qi a cold laugh as if he were saying, " Don’t worry, you’re next."

Finally, there was no one left in front of Luo Qi. Behind him, Tang Ze sighed, "I’ll go."

Anyway, he was the boss of the Second Year, he couldn’t bow down.

However, at this moment, six more people walked into the training ground. Five students, one mentor.

"Mage division? What are they doing here?"

"Yeah, why don’t these creeps just stay in the shade inside? What would they do if they got a sunburn?"

Dragon Fighters and Dragon Mages have never gotten along. Despite their equally important roles in the battlefield, whether in social status or the Empire’s emphasis, Dragon Mages have always been superior to Dragon Fighters. Over time, this caused the Dragon Mages to look down on the Dragon Fighters. Dragon Fighters, facing enemies’ Fighting Aura, have special defensive abilities against such damages but lack resistance against magic. However, Dragon Mages can use magic shields, which resist both Fighting Aura and magic skills.

Because of this, though Mages are physically weaker than Dragon Fighters, they often mock the Dragon Fighters for being weak.

This situation is even common within the military, let alone in the academy.

"Mage, rare to see you outside. I hope you and your students have sunscreen on?"

The instructor didn’t bother to use the Mage’s name and simply referred to him as ’Mage’.

"Hehe, instructor, I’m sure you don’t need it, you’re already so tanned that there’s no hope for you. You wouldn’t even be noticed if you snuck into an enemy camp at night."

The Mage teacher is a middle-aged man, but he’s slender and seems to be fond of cosmetics.

No, no, it’s not just a feeling, he really does use a lot of cosmetics!

Upon the arrival of these six people, the air started to fill with a pleasant fragrance.

Five students — four girls and one handsome boy.

Is the Magic Academy a place that solely nurtures femininity?

"Yeah, my natural disguise is certainly convenient, but I wonder if your perfume could suffocate the enemy?"

The instructor apparently sniffed the scent, wrinkling his nose. To Dragon Fighters, the training ground was a place to shed sweat and blood; the fragrance made it seem out of place.

"Hehe, it’s better than having a sweaty smell everywhere like here, right?"

The Mage teacher even pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and gently covered his nose.

Long Yi felt his hairs standing up — these effeminate males were making him go crazy.

"Alright, I don’t have time to banter with you. If there’s anything, say it quickly. Don’t delay our training."

The instructor waved dismissively as if he were shooing away flies.

"Well, it’s not a big deal. I heard that the student who caused your entire Second Year division to lose face, Long Yi, and Ai Lin have been promoted. So, I just came to see... Oh, is this burly guy Long Yi? Hmm, just like I thought, a guy where all the nutrients went straight to his muscles. You’re more than enough to deal with them. Oh, is this Ai Lin? Such a cute little girl. Your dress is so fancy, tell me where you got it. I want one too!"

Looking at the Magic instructor before him, Long Yi felt a surge of deep revulsion rise within his heart. While Long Yi is a very open-minded person who believes in cultural and human diversity, he only asks that people live their own lives decently. But this person before him was clearly something else.

Moving a few steps forwards to block Ai Lin from the instructor’s sight, Long Yi said,

"Student Long Yi, please get out of the way. Your sweaty smell is truly unbearable."

The Magic instructor once again waved that dreadful handkerchief as if to fend off Long Yi’s sweaty smell.

Honest Long Yi acted as if he didn’t hear him. Taking two steps forward, he looked at the Magic instructor earnestly and said, "Actually, since the first time I saw you, I’ve wanted to tell you something."

Hearing this, the Magic instructor seemed taken aback. He took two quick steps back and held his chest as if shocked, asking, "What is it?"

Long Yi answered sincerely, "Instructor, hasn’t anyone ever told you how annoying you truly are?"
