After Being Cheated On, I Became My Ex's Uncle's Pampered Sweetheart
Chapter 2: She Regretted
"Uncle... don’t. I’m begging you, no more..."
Eve Vaughn resisted, nearly breaking down as she begged for mercy.
Amidst her desperate sobs, the man’s reason returned, and he let her go with restraint.
Eve Vaughn’s eyes were misty as she looked timidly at the man before her. He was still as impeccably dressed as when he’d arrived, his tie not even slightly loosened.
But her own clothes were a mess, barely covering her.
Shame and regret flooded her heart in that instant. Eve Vaughn quickly turned her back, fumbling to straighten her clothes.
The lust in Mason Lawson’s eyes had cooled, along with any trace of his earlier intoxication. It was as if what had just happened had never occurred.
He frowned and rubbed the bridge of his nose. How could he have lost control like that? Even though she looks so much like the woman from his memories, he has never allowed himself to entertain any inappropriate thoughts before.
After all, this young woman is his nephew’s girlfriend.
But just now, he almost...
Mason Lawson refused to dwell on it. His cold voice sounded from above her. "Eve Vaughn, this is an adult’s game. Since you can’t afford to play, don’t do something so stupid ever again!"
Eve Vaughn clutched her chest, feeling the relief of having survived a disaster. Like a child who had done something wrong, she apologized in a small voice, "I’m sorry, Uncle."
The young woman before him, with her beautiful, misty eyes, looked like a small, wounded animal in need of rescue, making his heart tremble for no reason.
Forget it! In any case, it was the Lawson Family who wronged her, and he just terrified her like that. He’ll just think of it as compensation for her.
So, Mason Lawson took out a gold-embossed business card and handed it to her. "If you run into trouble in the future, you can come find me."
Eve Vaughn stared at the business card on the table in disbelief. For some reason, it felt like she had just been given a get-out-of-jail-free card. "Really?"
She knew how powerful Mason Lawson was. Before, she’d thought she would have to sell a part of herself to gain his help.
But she hadn’t expected this. She hadn’t lost her innocence tonight, yet she had received his business card and his promise.
As Mason Lawson was leaving, he instructed, "It’s too late tonight. Stay here for the night and go back tomorrow when it’s light out."
With that, he gave her one last deep look and left the suite.
Eve Vaughn’s mind was still in a daze. Everything that had just happened felt like a dream.
Thankfully, nothing had happened between her and Mason Lawson.
Just then, her best friend, Mia Kendall, called.
The sudden ringing of her phone made Eve Vaughn jump. She answered the phone, and Mia Kendall’s frantic voice came from the other end. "Evie, something’s happened! Today, my family received an invitation from the Lawson Family. It says that at the end of next month, Julian Lawson is marrying your cousin.
"When Julian Lawson had acute liver failure, you were the one who donated half your liver to him! How could your cousin be the one marrying him in the end? Are you kidding me?!"
A sharp pain pierced Eve Vaughn’s heart as she couldn’t help but recall the events of six months ago.
"Evie, Julian’s liver failure could kill him at any moment. We’ve all gotten our compatibility results back, and only your liver is a match for him. If you just donate half of your liver, he can live!"
Julian’s mother, Mrs. Lawson, her eyes filled with tears, gripped her hand tightly and pleaded, "I know this is selfish. But please, try to understand how a mother feels. As long as you help Julian get through this, I promise I’ll let you two get married right after you graduate from college. I’ll never oppose you being together again."
Looking at her pale-faced boyfriend in the hospital bed, she agreed to the liver transplant surgery without a second thought. After the operation, Mrs. Lawson arranged for her to recuperate abroad.
"Evie, you just focus on recovering here. The doctors say this was a major surgery, and you’ll need to rest for half a year. When you come back in six months, I’ll arrange for you and Julian to get engaged first."
Mrs. Lawson swore solemnly.
She had been so grateful. She never thought that Mrs. Lawson, who had always looked down on her, would be so concerned for her this time.
But six months later, when she returned to the country, what she got was the news that Julian Lawson was going to marry her cousin, Charlotte Vaughn.
The man whose life she had risked her own to save looked at her with pure hatred. "When I was sick, you just up and left. It was Charlotte who saved me! Now that I’ve recovered, what are you doing back here? Eve Vaughn, I never thought you were this kind of woman! I, Julian Lawson, must have been blind to have gone against my parents for you so many times!"
Only then did Eve Vaughn realize that she had been set up by Mrs. Lawson.
It was a huge scam, and because she loved Julian Lawson, she had walked right into the trap without hesitation.
Unfortunately, Julian Lawson didn’t trust her at all.
No matter how she tried to explain, in the end, Julian Lawson had his bodyguards throw her out and refused to even see her again.
To prove her story, Eve Vaughn went back to the hospital where she’d had the surgery, wanting to get her own surgical records.
But to her shock, the name on the surgical records had been brazenly changed to her cousin’s, "Charlotte Vaughn."
It all clicked into place. The hospital where she had the surgery was controlled by the Lawson Family. Moreover, Mrs. Lawson came from a family of doctors and was a doctor herself. Manipulating a private hospital would be all too easy for her!
Eve Vaughn explained the whole story from beginning to end, and Mia Kendall was so angry she felt like she was about to explode.
She was both furious and heartbroken for her friend, saying through gritted teeth, "Evie, you’re only nineteen, and these people have already cost you half your liver. You can’t let them get away with this. We have to find a way to expose these bastards!"
When Eve Vaughn first discovered she had been deceived, she’d had the same thought, but now she had calmed down.
With the Lawson Family’s status in Rivaster, what media outlet would dare to expose them? Besides, she doesn’t even have any evidence to prove her innocence!
But she will never let it go just like that!
...
The next day, Eve Vaughn returned home.
Before she even entered the living room, she heard the sound of lively conversation from inside.
Only then did she remember that Charlotte Vaughn and Julian Lawson were getting married soon.
So today, Mrs. Lawson had brought Julian Lawson to the Vaughn residence to propose the marriage.
The living room was filled with all sorts of expensive jewelry, clothes, bags, and rare delicacies.
Eve Vaughn’s uncle was away on a business trip, but that didn’t stop her aunt from putting on a show, endlessly flattering Mrs. Lawson and Julian Lawson.
The joyous expressions on everyone’s faces darkened the moment they saw Eve Vaughn.
Eve Vaughn stood in the center of the living room, her gaze fixed unwaveringly on Mrs. Lawson.
She wondered if Mrs. Lawson still remembered how she had begged her through tears half a year ago, pleading for her to donate half her liver to save Julian Lawson.
Mrs. Lawson felt her skin crawl under her stare and quickly averted her eyes.
Just then, her aunt, Lana Chambers, asked with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, "Eve, where did you run off to and spend the night this time? Our Charlotte would never stay out all night as you do."
After she spoke, Julian Lawson’s expression turned extremely ugly. Suddenly, his gaze fixed on the red mark on Eve Vaughn’s neck.
For some reason, his feet seemed to move on their own. He strode directly toward her and seized her by the wrist.
Eve Vaughn winced in pain and frowned. "Julian Lawson, let go!"
But Julian Lawson only gripped her tighter, asking through gritted teeth, "What is that on your neck? What exactly were you doing last night? And who were you with?"
