After Being Cheated On, I Became My Ex's Uncle's Pampered Sweetheart
Chapter 8: She Wants to Be a Filial Daughter to Mason Lawson
Mason Lawson reiterated, "She is not my woman."
Hamilton Hale deliberately provoked him. "If you ask me, Eric Kendall has some kind of fate with this little girl. They’ve run into each other two days in a row. Let me tell you, that guy goes for all ages. He’s not principled like you, waiting for her to... grow up a little more."
Mason Lawson hung up the phone and tossed it aside. But the image of Eve Vaughn curled up in the rain last night reappeared in his mind.
It must be because I’ve been doing too much charity work, he thought seriously. That’s why I’m always taking pity on the unfortunate.
...
The next day, Eve Vaughn was trying to figure out how to use the money from selling the necklace.
Forty thousand dollars was barely enough to cover her mother’s medical expenses; there was no way she could afford a lawyer.
Just then, a message from her academic advisor popped up in the class group chat.
Apparently, a businessman focused on philanthropy was looking to sponsor outstanding university students. Applicants needed to provide their college entrance exam scores and true family circumstances for the sponsor to review.
Eve Vaughn was instantly thrilled. This was a godsend!
Without a second thought, she immediately filled out the sponsorship application form.
She wrote about her current situation: ranked first in the clinical medicine department for two consecutive years and admitted to the university with the department’s top score on the entrance exam.
She also described her mother’s current condition under the section for financial hardship.
However, Eve Vaughn heard that many students from the entire university had applied, and the businessman was only offering three spots.
My grades are excellent, but my burdens are heavy too, she thought to herself. I wonder if the businessman will choose me.
Just then, the dorm manager came up, knocked on her door, and said, "Eve Vaughn, someone’s at the entrance to the dorm looking for you. They say they’re your guardian."
After following the dorm manager downstairs, Eve Vaughn was surprised to see it was her uncle.
The moment he saw her, Jason Vaughn laid into her. "You’ve gone too far! I’m away on business for a few days, and you decide to stage a rebellion at home? Do you have any idea that your aunt and cousin are still bedridden from the beating you gave them?"
Eve Vaughn’s expression didn’t change. "What, were they supposed to slap my left cheek, and I should have offered them my right? You know about the situation with Julian Lawson, don’t you, Uncle? You occupied my home, took my father’s company, and stole my boyfriend. And now you come here to blame me? Aren’t you being a bit too shameless?"
She ruthlessly tore off her uncle’s family’s facade. Furious and embarrassed, Jason Vaughn retorted, "What do you mean, ’your father’s company’? After he died, I was the one who worked himself to the bone for it! If it weren’t for me, the company would have gone bankrupt long ago!"
With that, Jason Vaughn pulled out a document. "This is a transfer agreement for the villa. Sign it. The villa has to be transferred to my name. After all, the company’s cash flow is tight right now. This villa is worth twenty or thirty million, and I need to leverage it."
Eve Vaughn let out a cold laugh. "Uncle, you don’t really think I’m a three-year-old, do you? What does the company’s tight cash flow have to do with me? I haven’t seen a single cent in dividends all these years."
Jason Vaughn’s face turned ashen. He couldn’t believe this girl was getting harder and harder to fool. She was completely out of control!
He finally played his trump card, saying word by word, "You’d better think about your mother! Her medical bills are tens of thousands a month. I don’t have that kind of spare cash to keep supporting her! I’ll only continue to pay her medical fees if you sign this transfer agreement."
Eve Vaughn snatched the agreement, and without a second glance, her slender fingers tore it to pieces with force.
After a few rips, the property transfer agreement scattered before Jason Vaughn like snowflakes.
Jason Vaughn was completely stunned. He never thought the Eve Vaughn of today would disregard even her own mother’s life.
Eve Vaughn was entirely unafraid of his furious expression. "Uncle, your family has been living in my father’s house for long enough. Now that Charlotte Vaughn has attached herself to the Lawson Family, shouldn’t you all be following your daughter to enjoy a comfortable life in a better mansion?"
"What do you mean? Are you trying to kick us out?" Jason Vaughn gritted his teeth. "You ungrateful wretch! We’ve raised you for five years! Everything you own, we have a share in! Even just to repay us for raising you, you should transfer the villa to our name."
For a small-time businessman like Jason Vaughn, a villa worth twenty to thirty million was by no means a small sum.
How could he possibly give it up?
Eve Vaughn scoffed. "What kind of distorted logic is that? Uncle, I’m not signing this agreement. Do you really think I would not know how valuable this villa is? As the homeowner, I can sell it myself. The money from the sale would be more than enough to cover my mom’s medical bills for the rest of her life!"
With that, she turned and walked back into the dormitory building.
Jason Vaughn nearly fainted from anger. He yelled at Eve Vaughn’s retreating form, "You get back here!"
In his desperation, he even tried to chase after her.
Unfortunately, the dorm manager quickly stopped him. "Sir, please show some respect! Look clearly, this is a women’s dormitory. No men allowed!"
Jason Vaughn spat in a huff. He had to think of a way to change the villa’s ownership to his name, and fast. Otherwise, if Eve Vaughn really decided to fight them, she might just kick them out!
Back in her dorm room, Eve Vaughn chugged a few mouthfuls of cool water to quell the fire raging inside her.
It was one thing for that family to live in her house like shameless squatters.
But now they dared to demand she just give them a villa worth twenty or thirty million.
Have they lost their minds?
Two days later, Eve Vaughn was called to her advisor’s office.
"Eve, your name is on the list of the three students this wealthy businessman has chosen to sponsor."
Because the matter involved the students’ personal privacy, the advisor had called them into the office to speak with them individually.
Eve Vaughn couldn’t believe she was actually chosen. She was so happy she almost jumped for joy.
"Advisor, do you have the sponsor’s contact information?" Eve Vaughn said earnestly, "Once I have a job, I’ll be sure to pay back all of these years of tuition."
The advisor wrote a phone number down on a piece of paper. "I only have the sponsor’s phone number. I believe it’s a gentleman. However, he didn’t give his name. He said you can contact him if you have any difficulties. Also, he’s not just sponsoring your tuition, but also your mother’s medical expenses."
Eve Vaughn was stunned. She never imagined someone so kind truly existed in this world.
Seeing her eyes turn red, the advisor patted her on the shoulder. "I know you’re a sensible and motivated student. I hope you’ll continue to maintain your excellent grades and contribute to society after you graduate. That will be the best way to repay your sponsor."
"I understand, Advisor. Thank you."
Her voice trembling, Eve Vaughn bowed to her advisor and left the office. On the way back, she started to cry. She was overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude.
For the past few days, she had been suffocating under the weight of her tuition and her mother’s medical bills, unable to even sleep soundly.
She never would have imagined that so many of her desperate problems would all be resolved today.
Back in her dorm room, Eve Vaughn took out her phone and sent a message to the number her advisor had given her.
Eve: Hello, sir. My name is Eve Vaughn, and I’m the university student you are sponsoring. I am so grateful for your help. I will study hard, and in the future, I will work hard to become a useful member of society.
Before long, he replied shortly: You’re welcome.
Eve Vaughn hesitated for a moment before sending another message: Sir, would it be convenient for me to know your last name? One day, I will pay all of this money back to you.
After all, she needed to know who her benefactor was. Otherwise, how could she ever repay the kindness?
This person’s help was so immense that it had practically brought her back from the brink of despair.
But for a long time, there was no reply.
Just as Eve Vaughn was thinking he wouldn’t reply again, another message popped up on her phone.
Benefactor: You don’t need to know my name. If my daughter hadn’t passed away from an illness, she would probably be about your age. Just think of this as me accumulating good karma for her.
Sitting in his office, Mason Lawson felt he could write a novel after sending that message. He had managed to come up with such a touching story right on the spot.
Before long, a reply came from Eve Vaughn.
When he saw her new form of address for him, "Uncle," Mason Lawson nearly spat out the water he had just sipped!
The innocent young woman was apologizing earnestly: I’m so sorry, Uncle. I didn’t know you had such a sad story. My future job is to heal the sick. If you don’t mind, Uncle, I will be as devoted to you as a daughter and look after your health.
Mason Lawson’s brows furrowed tightly. How did he end up with a daughter out of nowhere!
Suddenly, he felt the immense pressure.
