After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 210: A Previously Married Woman Is Worth Less
Miles Grant was worried sick and ran after her.
Eleanor Crawford pushed him away every time.
His phone fell to the ground during the scuffle.
By the time Miles Grant picked it up, Eleanor Crawford was long gone.
He clutched the phone, his lips a thin line, his eyes dark with shadow.
They weren’t inseparable, but they had shared a peaceful and happy time together.
’When did it all change?’
Sophia Shaw returned to the hospital room.
She took Seraphina Vaughn’s hand.
Seraphina Vaughn rested her head on Sophia’s arm. "Sophia, I’m sorry."
These were the first words she had spoken in days.
Sophia Shaw gently patted her back. "Seraphina, you’re the victim in all of this. You have nothing to be sorry for."
Seraphina Vaughn’s tears fell anyway. "If I hadn’t been in contact with Joanna Sherman, she never would have had the chance to know my whereabouts, she wouldn’t have..."
"Joanna Sherman was right to curse me. I’m such an idiot!"
At the mention of Joanna Sherman, a wave of uncontrollable hatred surged in Sophia Shaw’s heart.
"Shirley, it’s not that you’re stupid. It’s that Joanna Sherman is malicious."
"Instead of wallowing in self-blame, you should prove to her just how capable you are!"
After everything she had been through, Seraphina Vaughn was slowly coming to her senses.
Being impatient for quick success would only lead to a major fall.
"Don’t worry. I won’t be so anxious anymore. I’ll calm down and study hard."
"The teacher you introduced me to... once Dad wakes up, I’ll go find him."
Ms. Warren was incredibly relieved to hear her say this. "That’s the spirit."
She had seen Seraphina Vaughn’s impatience over the years and had tried to advise her, but to no avail.
"Seraphina, plenty of people are late bloomers. So many start new careers at sixty or seventy. You’re only in your twenties. Even if it takes you ten years to master your craft, you’ll still only be in your thirties—much younger than them."
This time, Seraphina Vaughn took it all to heart, nodding earnestly instead of talking back to Ms. Warren.
Sophia Shaw booked two rooms for them at a hotel near the hospital so they could get some rest.
They had been at the hospital for two days straight. If they kept going like this, they would collapse from exhaustion sooner or later.
As Old Master Sloan’s condition began to improve, Seraphina Vaughn and Ms. Warren’s spirits lifted as well. June Evans accompanied them downstairs.
Only Yancy Shaw and Sophia Shaw remained outside the room.
Gazing at Old Master Sloan in the hospital room, Yancy Shaw let out a soft sigh.
Sophia Shaw asked, "Uncle, that old doctor who was just talking to the two military physicians, when did you ask him to come?"
It was the medicine prescribed by that doctor that had allowed Old Master Sloan’s condition to recover so quickly.
From his words, the doctor had indicated that he had been invited from another hospital.
She didn’t have time to ask more back then; the matter only occurred to Sophia Shaw now.
Yancy Shaw looked at Sophia Shaw, confused. "Didn’t you invite that old doctor?"
Sophia Shaw shook her head. "It wasn’t me."
"That’s..." Yancy Shaw found it very strange. "The other day, he and the attending physician came to check on Old Master Sloan’s condition. I heard from the nurses that he’s a surgical sage, but he’s extremely low-key and has barely practiced in the country. From the way he spoke, it sounded like we had used some special means to get him here."
"I always thought you were the one who invited him."
Of course, Sophia Shaw would have wanted to invite such a doctor, but she had never even heard of someone so low-profile, so there was no way she could have.
"Could it be Mrs. Sawyer or Levin?" Yancy Shaw asked.
Sophia Shaw shook her head.
If it were them, they would have told her long ago.
The person who invited him clearly didn’t want her to know.
’Who could it be?’
Just then, Lillian Forrest called.
"Faye, is Old Master Sloan’s condition any better?"
Lillian Forrest had wanted to call much earlier but hadn’t dared, afraid she would be disturbing Sophia Shaw.
"Much better," Sophia Shaw said.
"That’s great." Lillian Forrest was genuinely happy.
A thought flickered in Sophia Shaw’s mind. She asked, "A very skilled doctor came to the hospital recently. It was his medicine that helped Old Master Sloan recover so quickly. Lil, did you guys invite him?"
"You must mean Elder Drake." Lillian Forrest sighed softly. "My brother actually went to invite him several times but never managed to meet him. Later, we heard..."
Lillian Forrest was reluctant to continue, but she didn’t want to lie to Sophia Shaw, so she said truthfully, "My brother said... it was Vincent who invited him."
"Vincent Grant?"
Sophia Shaw froze.
He was the last person she would have ever expected.
But if it was him, it also made sense.
Only Vincent Grant had such extensive connections to find a doctor like that.
Sophia Shaw didn’t ask any more questions and said goodbye to Lillian Forrest.
After hanging up, Lillian Forrest turned to her brother, a hint of regret on her lips. "You were the first one to look for Elder Drake, Brother. You put in so much effort, but you were still one step behind Vincent."
"If you had been one step ahead of Vincent, Sophie would be grateful to you right now."
Jenson Forrest’s fingers, holding his phone, curled slightly. Finally, he just said, "It doesn’t matter who invited him. As long as it helps Old Master Sloan’s condition, that’s enough."
’That’s what he says,’ she thought, ’but I still wish my brother could have had this opportunity.’
Jenson Forrest didn’t stay long. He got up and left for the office.
Lillian Forrest stared blankly in the direction he had left. Hearing the sound of the car starting, a little quieter than usual, she knew her brother was in a bad mood too.
She couldn’t help but sigh softly. "If only Sophie could marry my brother, how wonderful would that be!"
Ma Lane, who was walking by, heard this and snorted disdainfully. "Wonderful? What’s so wonderful about it? A woman who’s been married before is so cheapened. With the Young Master’s status, how could he possibly have her!"
"A woman’s worth isn’t determined by how many men she’s married! If my brother could marry her, he’d be the one marrying up!"
Lillian Forrest really disliked the way Ma Lane judged women, especially Sophia Shaw.
In the past, Lillian Forrest would never have disagreed with anything she said; she was always very obedient to her.
But now, being contradicted like this, Ma Lane’s face turned dark and ugly.
’Sophia Shaw must have taught her this!’
’Teaching her all the wrong things, none of the right ones!’
’That Sophia Shaw really is bad news!’
——
The next day, Sophia Shaw went to the Grant Group.
Returning here after several months and seeing the familiar surroundings felt like a lifetime ago.
This place held too many of her grievances. She wouldn’t have set foot in it if it wasn’t absolutely necessary.
"Faye."
Timothy Morgan, who was coming downstairs, cried out in surprise upon seeing her.
"Manager Morgan."
Sophia Shaw greeted her politely, giving Timothy Morgan a gentle smile.
During her many years at the Grant Group, Timothy Morgan had given her a great deal of help and support.
"How have you been lately?"
Sophia Shaw was famous now, no longer in the same world as her, yet she could still be so warm and kind, no different from before.
Timothy Morgan was quite moved. She nodded, but her eyes reddened.
"I’m sorry, Faye. It was my fault. I was useless and couldn’t protect you."
"You suffered so many wrongs under my watch."
She had always recognized Sophia Shaw’s abilities, and she could never get over the way she had been driven out.
"Ms. Archer, don’t say that. You’ve already helped me more than enough."
"If you hadn’t been looking out for me at every turn, things would have been even worse for me at the Grant Group."
Timothy Morgan sighed softly. "It’s just as I said, they’re all blind!"
Sophia Shaw remained silent.
The reason her life at the Grant Group had been so difficult, in the end, was because Vincent Grant couldn’t stand her.
Timothy Morgan naturally thought of this as well and let out a light scoff. "Thankfully, you proved them wrong, Faye. Your five consecutive satellite launches were a huge slap in their faces."
When Sophia Shaw’s satellites launched successfully, Timothy Morgan was even happier than if she had succeeded herself.
She had been holding in this resentment for too long; it was finally released.
