After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 42: A Useless Woman
"This is my employee ID," Sophia Shaw said, handing her ID card to the manager.
The manager took it and inspected it inside and out.
The ID was indeed from Lead Aerospace, with Sophia Shaw’s name on it.
"Lead Aerospace is one of the co-organizers for this event. Are you trying to interfere with my work?"
The manager, holding the ID card, flinched as if he’d been burned and nearly dropped it.
His knees went weak.
’Lead Aerospace has a deep partnership with our hotel. Did I just offend someone from the client’s side?’
"Manager." Sharon Sherman swayed over to the manager’s side and whispered a few words in his ear.
The manager, who had been wiping away sweat, suddenly glared, his expression changing instantly. "Well, well! So you’re a fraud!"
"This is the proof of your forgery! I’m sending you to the police station right now!"
The manager brandished the employee ID in his hand.
"The evidence is irrefutable! Just wait to be sentenced!"
Sophia Shaw’s expression was cold as she glanced at the crowd before her. "If I really am from Lead Aerospace, what will you all do then?"
She spoke with such confidence that the manager and the others were taken aback once again. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Even Justin Hughes paused.
His father, Mr. Hughes, had warned him to never, ever offend anyone from Lead Aerospace.
Only Sherry Judd was full of confidence. "Your ID doesn’t even have a job title on it. You were clearly afraid you’d be exposed if you wrote one!"
Sharon Sherman immediately snapped back to her senses, patting her chest. "If you’re from Lead Aerospace, I’ll bark like a dog in public!"
The challenge in her eyes was blatant.
"Enough of this nonsense!" The manager took matters into his own hands, shoving Sophia Shaw away.
Caught off guard, Sophia staggered backward.
The manager’s shove was fast and forceful. She lost her balance and was about to fall to the ground.
A hand reached out from behind her, giving her a gentle push forward.
Sophia, who had been falling backward, steadied herself.
Everyone turned to look.
"Jenson, what are you doing helping her?!" Justin Hughes accused Jenson Forrest, displeased.
The moment Sophia was steady, Jenson Forrest withdrew his hand, flexed his wrist, and stood off to the side, looking detached.
Before he could speak, Levin Sawyer’s face appeared from behind Jenson Forrest.
His steps were measured, his gaze sharp. "You harmed one of my people from Lead Aerospace, and yet you won’t even allow Young Master Forrest to lend a hand? What kind of logic is that?"
"From Lead Aerospace?"
"She’s really from Lead Aerospace?"
A wave of hushed murmurs spread through the onlookers.
Levin Sawyer walked to Sophia Shaw’s side and glanced at the crowd. "Does everyone think I’m lying?"
After speaking, he turned to check on Sophia with concern. "Are you hurt?"
Sophia shook her head. "No."
Seeing how protective Levin Sawyer was of Sophia, who would dare to disbelieve it now?
The manager’s calves were trembling with fear. "President Sawyer, you’re a magnanimous man... P-please don’t hold this against me."
Levin Sawyer gave him a deep look.
He didn’t say a word.
But the manager already knew his career was over. His face instantly turned ashen!
Sharon Sherman was scared to death, too, and quickly shrank back.
Jenson Forrest walked up to Justin Hughes and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Justin, just apologize."
"I’m sorry," Justin Hughes said stiffly.
His face was terribly pale.
Levin Sawyer couldn’t even be bothered to look at him. "You don’t need to apologize to me. You should be apologizing to Sophia Shaw."
"What? You’re telling me to apologize to *her*?"
Justin Hughes pointed at his own nose, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"What right does a scheming woman like her have..."
"If that’s how it is, then maybe we should just pull the plug on that partnership with the Hughes Family."
Justin Hughes was severely shaken. He never expected Levin Sawyer to go this far for Sophia Shaw.
He was furious and resentful, but he didn’t have the courage to risk the project. He could only force the words out, "I’m sorry, Sophia Shaw."
Sophia closed her eyes for a moment.
’If he weren’t Vincent Grant’s friend, I wouldn’t waste a single glance on someone so incompetent and self-righteous.’
Ignoring his apology, she turned to Jenson Forrest. "Thank you."
Sophia’s blatant disregard stung Justin Hughes again, and he was about to erupt.
Jenson Forrest discreetly held his arm down and nodded to Sophia. "It was nothing. Besides, we were in the wrong, too."
Only then did he say to Justin Hughes, "Let’s go."
Seeing the two of them start to leave, Sharon Sherman and Sherry Judd hurried to follow.
A hand abruptly shot out, blocking their path.
Sophia’s eyes were icy. "What’s the rush?"
"Who was it just now that said they would bark like a dog in public?"
"You..." Sharon Sherman’s face turned pale as dirt.
She never imagined Sophia had actually gotten into Lead Aerospace.
And she certainly didn’t expect Sophia to take her words seriously.
The beauty mark by Sophia’s eye seemed to dance.
’I don’t go out of my way to bully people, but I’m not a doormat either.’
Sharon Sherman looked around, hoping someone would save her.
The others all shrank back, terrified of drawing Sophia’s attention and getting dragged into it.
Even if Sharon Sherman had all the courage in the world, she wouldn’t dare act up in front of Levin Sawyer. She could only let out a few quiet "WOOF, WOOFs."
Sophia’s outstretched hand didn’t move. "Have you not eaten, Miss Sherman?"
Sharon Sherman had no choice but to raise her voice. "WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!"
Many people were passing by, and seeing the crowd gathered here, they couldn’t help but look over.
Hearing Sharon Sherman barking, they all covered their mouths and snickered.
Sharon Sherman was so ashamed she wished the ground would swallow her whole. Tears streamed down her face.
She covered her face and ran off.
Sophia watched Sharon Sherman’s pathetic, fleeing back and pursed her lips slightly.
’Can’t even handle this?’
’Before she and Joanna Sherman arrived, I was a good student in my teachers’ eyes and a good child in my mother’s heart.’
’The moment they came, I became the worst kid in the entire school.’
’At school, teachers made me stand in the corner, clean the toilets, and run laps around the field until I fainted.’
’Even my mother, who was always busy just trying to make ends meet, started looking at me with disappointment in her eyes.’
Sophia pulled her gaze back, wanting to ask Levin Sawyer where her teacher was.
He was already surrounded by a group of people.
Lead Aerospace was a co-organizer for the event, so he was very busy.
Sophia didn’t disturb him and continued her search on her own.
She turned a corner and ran into the very people she wanted to avoid.
Vincent Grant was currently with Joanna Sherman, chatting with a top-tier authority in the industry.
Sophia recognized this top-tier authority. Although he wasn’t as well-rounded as her teacher professionally, he was unrivaled in the field of rocket propulsion research.
A top figure like him usually looked down on companies like Stellaron, which were launching a rocket for the first time. Sophia was surprised that he was willing to chat with Joanna Sherman.
"The Grant Group burned through a lot of money to participate in this exhibition. I heard they spent several ’small goals’ just to meet Mr. Smith."
A few people behind Sophia were discussing in low voices.
Mr. Smith was the authority right in front of them.
’So that’s how it is.’
Sophia couldn’t help but marvel at Vincent Grant’s extravagance.
From design to R&D to launch, even after she had pushed the costs down again and again, a rocket would still cost at least tens of billions.
Even when plenty of investors were willing to pour money into Lead Aerospace back then, they had to be meticulous with every penny.
’Someone like Joanna Sherman would be an engineer at most, at Lead Aerospace.’
’Vincent Grant single-handedly elevated Joanna Sherman to Chief Engineer, spending hundreds of millions just to pave the way for her!’
’He’s truly willing to risk his entire fortune for Joanna Sherman!’
"That woman is Old Master Sloan’s..." Mr. Smith suddenly looked toward Sophia.
Everyone knew that Old Master Sloan once had a prized protégé, whom he cherished so much he never wanted to reveal her to the public.
However, he had been fortunate enough to meet her a few times.
Just as he was about to walk toward Sophia, Vincent Grant spoke up. "That is my wife. A housewife."
A housewife...
It was like a precise stab straight to Sophia’s heart.
’So in his eyes, that’s all I’m good for—being a housewife!’
