Alpha Rejected His True Luna
Chapter 261: Haunt Me Forever
Alpha King
After I took control of the situation and established my position, the first thing I did was send dozens of my men to gather information and track down Zara.
Several more people with computer skills were tasked with tracking Zara and her phone. But this worry, this disappointment, never left my heart. I wondered if she had eaten anything at all. Did she give her water?
The very thought of her never left me for a second. The sight of her hair haunted me; it will haunt me forever.
How I had failed her again and again.
"Here, at least have some coffee." Mom forced the mug into my hand, and I forgot the last time I’d eaten anything.
And yet, my stomach refused to accept anything. I felt like I was going to throw up.
"I can’t, Mom, not until I find her." I handed the mug back, and she snorted, shaking her head.
"How are you going to find her if you don’t take care of your health? Does she want you to starve yourself?" she asked, now handing me a piece of avocado toast.
"She wants nothing to do with me. I broke her heart, and now she’s taken from me. I’m being punished for not acknowledging her love." I moved closer to the table and placed the toast back on the plate.
Dad and Brandon sat quietly, watching me, while she followed me around, begging me to let her eat.
"Kane, you need to eat. Your grandmother will be back today, and I don’t want her to find out about Zara’s kidnapping. She won’t be able to handle the stress," Ma emphasized. She was still unperturbed.
"She won’t be able to handle it, don’t worry." I rubbed my face irritably; I hadn’t slept in over 48 hours.
Mom’s calming hand fell on my tense shoulder. "You should at least get some rest. How can you continue living like this?"
"There will be no rest until I find her. Even if I have to sell my soul, I will." I’ve already contacted the Alpha of the other packs. I offered him a favor if he helps me find any information related to this kidnapping.
People like us hoard any information to use as leverage. Unfortunately, he didn’t, but he promised me his support.
The house staff arrived and respectfully said, "Cassidy’s mom has come to see you, Alpha."
I snapped my fingers.
"Let her in." I summoned Cassidy’s mother, hoping to find out where her daughter had disappeared to. That vile family had to get out of the pack. I wanted nothing to do with them.
She bowed slightly and left.
"Don’t be lenient with her," Mom said, respecting her friendship with the woman.
"It’s highly likely that Cassidy is involved in Zara’s kidnapping. So no, I’m not going to be lenient with her. Stay out of this," I told her bluntly, crossing my arms. I planned to tell her about their past. Hopefully, that would kill any remaining feelings Ma might have for those vile women.
Mama sighed but chose to remain silent. Brandon placed his hand on her shoulder and squeezed, telling her to remain calm.
Cassidy’s mother soon entered, her back straight and her hair pulled back tightly. She walked with dignity, but fear flickered in her eyes as she glanced from me to my mother. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"Good morning! I was called so early in the morning. Is everything alright?" she asked with that false accent I hated, clutching my designer handbag.
"Yes, and where is your daughter? I can’t find her." I looked at her as if she were as insignificant as a worm crawling on the ground.
She paled slightly before composing herself.
"She’s a grown woman; she doesn’t always tell me where she is. But she plans to settle outside of the pack."
My mother looked at her with a wrinkle on her forehead. Mom tried not to look her in the eye, and Brandon remained indifferent.
I, on the other hand, didn’t believe her lie.
"I have reason to believe she’s involved in my mate’s kidnapping. Now you have two options. Either you cooperate voluntarily, or you’ll be forced to cooperate. The choice is yours, Ms. Marieke." I spread my arms and quietly approached her.
Horror flashed across her face as she turned to Mom. "Who is this Luna? How could he?"
Mom looked up and met her gaze. "Cooperate because he can. Now you understand who he is."
She wanted to object, but I extended my hand and asked, "I need your phone."
Pressing her lips, she opened her bag and reached into it. Taking out her phone, she found the code and handed it to me.
"Brandon, take her to the guest room and lock her in. No one is to see her until I permit them." My gaze turned back to Mom. "Anyone, and I mean absolutely anyone, who breaks my rules will face severe consequences."
Brandon stood lazily and led the woman away.
All I chose and keep silent while I scrolled through her phone and checked her messages with Cassidy. Five days ago, she asked Cassidy where she was, and she replied, out of the pack.
I knew it. A few more messages were asking Cassidy about her whereabouts, but she never received a response.
"As far as I know, Cassidy was terribly jealous of your relationship with Zara. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was involved in this," Brandon added, picking up her mug and taking a sip.
"She loved Kane her whole life. Anyone in her position would be jealous," Mom replied, shaking her head. She still denied that her best friend and her daughter could be involved in the kidnapping.
I called Cassidy from her mother’s phone, but it was still turned off. I continued checking when my phone beeped. When I pulled it out, I saw a message from Kaysir.
I quickly opened the envelope and saw a photograph of a single earring. The very same ruby earrings I gave Zara for Christmas.
Kaysir had captioned the photo. {Don’t these belong to Luna? I remember seeing them in her ear.}
At that moment, my heart pounded so hard in my chest I thought it would jump out. I dialed the number and called him, and he answered immediately.
"Where did you find them?" I asked excitedly.
This was the biggest lead we had, because she was wearing them the last time I saw her. I was afraid she’d take them off and throw them in my face, but in her rage, she must have forgotten.
At that moment, she was worried about many things.
Her pregnancy.
My betrayal.
The truth about me.
Keysir didn’t hesitate, his voice clear.
"I took Marcus’s jeep, as you asked, to run some errands. I accidentally dropped my phone between the seats. While I was looking for it, I saw something red and shiny underneath. I reached for it and grabbed it. It turned out to be Luna’s earring. I wasn’t one hundred percent sure, that’s why I sent you the photo."
My mind went blank with this revelation. A million thoughts raced through my head, but I said grimly, "Take the jeep and ask Zara’s neighbors if anyone has seen him recently, and don’t tell Marcus anything."
"I’ll take care of it." The conversation ended, and I turned to my mother and brother.
"I think I know who kidnapped my mate."
