Chapter 178: Alnilam’s Crazy Thoughts

(Alnilam)

I have a detailed conversation with Headmaster Fallon in his office about the recent attacks and how we can improve our defences. He wants to keep Saiph around more, considering how creatures like Chittering are showing up.

"I think Saiph is well-equipped to assist you with Combat and Monster Studies. I will speak to your mother to spare him."

I agree with his decision.

"He was a huge help last night. The man doesn’t even flinch during battle." He was, but without Amaia, we would have been toast. We had already reached our wits.

"That’s what I am talking about. With Inter Guild Wars coming, you will need all the help you can get. Having him with you will take some of the burden off you." He pauses and his tone becomes concerned. "You seem stressed lately. Is everything good?"

"No, there is this Fae who won’t let me sleep or leave my thoughts. She has driven my wolf and magic crazy and now she is mated to both my brothers and a vampire. And that selfish part of me wants to at least kiss her and that makes me feel disgusted because I am engaged and she belongs to my brothers."

Of course, I say none of that.

"Yes, just the new recruits and their petty fights," I say instead and Headmaster Fallon smiles. His dark hair is neatly combed back.

"At least you have Kacir. Thanks for keeping him safe last night."

"Not a problem. I think he is sorting out his differences with Rahria. He seems happier." I hold the back of the chair instead of sitting on it.

"His life has taken a turn since Miss Zhāng’s arrival. I had a conversation with her. Very interesting girl. I feel like there is so much more to her, but I can’t put a finger on it."

Snow gleefully howls inside my head. "That’s our girl."

I nip him down. "She gels them together, she has that energy about her." I avoid revealing too much.

Headmaster Fallon nods. "So how was your away task and meeting with Reavers. Submitted all the reports."

"Yeah! And Amaia obliterated them too, so nothing about us hiding a Fae at Orion Academy will reach the Dread Army in Istrale or their bastard King Nythaniu Hiz."

"Yeah! They returned yesterday," I lie with a straight face.

"Good, sooner those skunks leave our state, the better."

At least Fallon thinks along the same lines I do. If a push comes to shove, I expect him to be on the right side of history.

"I agree."

"I will let you get some rest. It was hell of a night yesterday." He walks me to the door of his office.

"Have a good day, Headmaster." I give him one nod and exit with hopes that Amaia has gained consciousness by now.

My feet swiftly carry me back but there is a storm of thoughts in my head. Too many people know about Amaia’s secret.

I trust my brothers but I don’t trust Saiph. Maybe his staying away from Mama will make him keep his mouth shut. Also, I don’t know much about Ezran. His being part of Guild Pegasus makes it difficult to always keep an eye on him.

With all these thoughts I enter my office and open the partition to head inside.

My feet stop in their tracks seeing Amaia awake and smiling with my brothers. She has this radiant glow about her which makes Snow holler in my head.

The magic becomes restless. "Don’t make a scene in front of my brothers. They are her mates now." I warn my magic with gritted teeth.

"Brother, you are back and you are angry. Did Headmaster Fallon ask you to smile?" Alnitak throws a jab, seeing my grim face, not realising I am trying to control my magic from spilling out and making a mess of the situation.

Ignoring my infuriating brother I focus on Amaia.

"You good? Any weakness? Head or body ache?" I ask, stepping closer to her.

She shakes her head while Mintaka holds her to himself. "No, I am actually refreshed after eating. Saiph and Ali brought me food."

Good, at least they had the sense to feed her instead of becoming feral for her.

Strangely, Ezran is gone and I hope they didn’t fight in front of Amaia.

I drag myself to the one-seater and sit opposite Saiph. He is quietly eating.

"Once you are done and have listened to what I have to say, report to Headmaster Fallon’s office. He has a prospect for you."

He halts and gives me a nod before resuming.

I turn my head to watch my brothers and her. They fit so perfectly together. Alnitak is funny who will keep them smiling. Amaia is caring and strong, and will be their backbone. Mintaka, although he appears broken, has a strength like no one else.

"Amaia!" My voice comes out softer than I had intended and all three of them turn to watch.

"Thanks for saving our lives. You were phenomenal and I saw you had been reading and taking notes."

She smiles at my words, I know she understands that I am referring to the last move she pulled. "I have a great mentor."

" Awwww! She praised you," Snow is constantly jabbering today, I don’t know what has him so on edge.

Alnitak narrows his eyes at me. "You have been secretly teaching her. Those sessions were not to cover the history but this."

"Yes! I have been teaching her. The electric attacks she pulled were her own. We just charmed her weapon beforehand," I explain and both of them proudly stare at her. They are extremely smitten.

"If I had known you are a Fae. I would have taken off that necklace a long time ago and see you transform," Alnitak teases her, making her blush.

I need to apologise to her later. I had promised to keep her safe but I couldn’t. But first I need to discuss how we are going to address the situation which took place last night.

"Guys, we need to discuss what happened last night." Their heads turn to watch me and their smiles drop, especially Amaia’s and that saddens me.
