Chapter 290: Rivalry (2)

Samuel shook the balcony door with all his strength to try opening it. At a time like this when people were easily dropping dead and having their bodies stolen from them, Regina should be in a hurry to help him but she silently stood looking at him. "Timothy, open this door. You and I have been friends for a long time for you to just leave me stranded out here. Please."

"She wants to see your eyes-"

"There’s nothing wrong with my eyes. I can perfectly see my younger sister not helping me. You should at least fight hard to save the last family member standing. You have no idea how hard it was to watch mother sacrifice herself for me to get away," Samuel placed his hand on the window, tearing up from the painful memory.

He barely made it out thanks to their mother distracting whatever was attacking them.

"I warned all of you to leave that house but no one wanted to listen to me," Regina spoke loudly for Samuel to hear on the outside. "You were all being greedy at a time when we were supposed to give them back what they wanted. Show me your eyes and then I will let you in, Sam."

"What is it with you and my eyes at a time like this? Look," Samuel opened his eyes as wide as he could.

Regina took a step forward to inspect them. "He’s clear. You can open the door," she said to Timothy. After everything that happened tonight, she was glad her brother was still alive. Timothy could still revert back to the boy she once knew him to be. All he needed to do was get rid of the jealousy he built up against her. "You said something was following you?"

"Now you care about it?" Samuel glared at Regina as he entered the bedroom. "Instead of helping me, you mocked my skills to be able to sneak onto Timothy’s property. I was going to be a knight for the king until my father requested I take interest in the family business. I am-"

"Samuel," Regina sighed, highly annoyed with him going off-topic when they needed to know if something had truly chased him. "Please focus. Did you look back to see who or what was chasing you? Were you chased all the way here?"

"It had to be a person chasing me. Who cares now that I am here with you, Aurora, and that beast? I should be safe here, am I right? You don’t seem to be terrified about anything coming after you." Samuel quickly noticed how calm Regina was. If anything, she seemed scared for a brief moment when she found him on the balcony.

"Well, the soul inside of my father’s body told me they would leave me since I was willing to give back what belonged to them. Since something was chasing you, it means they are not willing to let you go. You’ll have to beg for your life if one shows up before us. Luckily, I can see them whether or not they are in someone’s body. We are in luck," Regina found hope for Samuel.

However, he was not a fan of the information he shared with her. "Of course, nothing will happen to you," he scoffed. It was fitting that his perfect little sister would be exempt from being killed while everyone else would die. How was he not supposed to be jealous of her? "Just like me, you enjoyed living in that home. You enjoyed the wealth our family stole," he argued.

"I did and I have no shame in admitting that but I was the only one willing to let all of it go so that we could move on-"

"Ha! You were only willing to move on because you hooked yourself onto a rich man so it’s not like you were giving up the life you had! You secured a future for yourself but what about the rest of us? I worked by my father and Minnie’s side, throwing away all my morals to please them. Everything I worked hard for got destroyed. You don’t care because you’re with him," Samuel pointed at Timothy.

"That is not true. I cared about that home but it had to be left behind. It would have been hard to adapt to suddenly having nothing but I would have stuck with my family. I don’t care about Timothy’s wealth. I have nothing now and it has to be considered that he might not want to marry me now. After everything I went through with all of you recently, I would have still stuck by your side after we lost everything," Regina retorted.

Regina didn’t like how Samuel thought she based her decisions tonight on the fact she had Timothy. She tried to do the right thing tonight. As long as her family could have gone back to the way things were long before, she would have been satisfied and not cared about money. They could leave this town and be their true selves. Find their real last names and start over.

"Prove it. Everyone will think our family is dead so let’s run away. We can leave town first thing in the morning and go to one of the other homes we bought ourselves. Leave Timothy behind to prove you do not care about his money," said Samuel. If he was in her position, he would never do this.

It was unfortunate he wasn’t in Regina’s position right now. Maybe if he had gotten married he would have been able to fall back on his wife’s wealth.

"If that is what you want," Regina agreed to do it. She would do anything to have her brother back to normal. The older brother who never cared about money and just wanted to become a knight. "As soon as morning hits, we’ll leave together."

"Regina," Timothy touched her arm. He didn’t aid her in all of this just for her to leave. "I don’t care about you having nothing. Stay and I will help the two of you."

"Samuel does not wish to stay so I will go with him," Regina replied.
