Ancestral Lineage
Chapter 526: Ethan Versus Emma
In a place far away from the empire, two people stood in silence. Around them, hordes of void-born moved... away. They both had silvery-white hair and were tall.
Ethan wore a fitting black armor with golden details. His hair was tied up in a man bun as he stood there with a smile. Opposite him was Emma, her hair tied up as well. Her wolf tail stood on end. She wore a blue battle dress with white details. White fur covered parts of her body as she slowly transformed into her hybrid werewolf form.
The ground cracked from her transformation as she got into a battle stance. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
The air grew heavy with claim. This was not a battle meant to end a life. It was a battle meant to define one.
Emma’s breath hung in misty curls as frost formed on the ground beneath her bare feet. It developed in an ever-widening pattern of tiny ice veins that seemed to spread and branch like living tendrils.
Her blue eyes shifted, transforming into silver, then something deeper... ancient even.
Her body flexed, her muscles like a bowstring. The white fur that burst from her arms and thighs gleamed in the faint lunar light that was somehow beginning to appear above them.
It was a second moon. Faint, but present.
Ethan watched her with a quiet smile.
"...You’re not holding back."
Emma’s lips curled slightly, revealing sharpened fangs.
"You said not to."
"Good."
The moment the word left his mouth... she vanished.
BOOM.
The ground where she stood exploded.
A silver and white flash streaked through the air far more quickly than sound or human sight can travel. Her claws aimed straight for his throat. Ethan didn’t move until the last possible moment.
His head tilted slightly as her claws grazed his neck, and the mountain behind him split in half. The delayed shockwave erupted, carving a canyon dozens of meters deep.
Emma didn’t stop.
She twisted in midair, her tail spinning in a wide arc as her leg shot downward, aimed straight for his head.
Ethan raised his arm.
CLANG.
The impact sounded like metal colliding with a divine weapon. The ground ripped apart, tearing open into a huge crater in an instant. Emma pushed harder. The ice around them erupted into jagged, sharp spikes that rocketed in all directions toward Ethan.
Ethan exhaled. Golden light flickered faintly across his armor, making the spikes shatter before reaching him.
Emma’s eyes narrowed. Her body shifted again. Her hybrid form deepened.
"You’re still holding back," she growled.
Ethan smiled.
"I’m pacing myself."
She snarled.
The second moon above them brightened. The temperature plummeted. Frost began forming in the air itself.
Then... she howled. The ice responded.
A glacier so massive that it looked more like a canyon wall surged out of the ground and swept Ethan into its icy depths, layers and layers of compressed ice from centuries past locking him away.
Emma didn’t wait. She raised both hands.
"Shatter."
BOOM.
The glacier detonated from within, sending shards flying across kilometers.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then a hand reached out from the drifting frost. Ethan stepped out casually, brushing ice off his shoulder.
"...Nice one."
Emma didn’t reply. She was already in front of him again.
But this time, he moved first. His hand shot forward, grabbing her wrist mid-strike. The air cracked. Emma’s eyes widened slightly, then she grinned.
Her free hand slammed into his chest.
BOOM.
The explosion sent Ethan flying across the ground, shooting through the layers of soil like a projectile before finally coming to rest.
Emma pursued instantly. There was no hesitation, and no mercy. Her claws poured down in an onslaught of blows, each one capable of reducing a mountain to dust and ashes.
Ethan blocked, dodged, and redirected. But he was being pushed back. The ground beneath them became unrecognizable. Cracks spread like spiderwebs, mountains collapsed, and the sky trembled.
Emma’s attacks grew faster, sharper, and more vicious. Blood finally appeared—a shallow cut across Ethan’s cheek, then another along his arm.
Emma’s grin widened.
"You’re bleeding."
Ethan touched his cheek and looked at the blood.
Then, he smiled.
"Guess it’s time."
The world stilled for a fraction of a second.
Then, power surged.
His aura burst out in a rush of golden and silver, expanding like an exploding star. It pushed her back, sending her flying several meters through the air. She dug her claws into the dirt to catch herself.
Her eyes lit up.
"Finally."
Ethan vanished.
He reappeared behind her.
She barely turned before his fist slammed into her back.
BOOM.
She fell, slamming into the earth with such force that it flattened everything out for a kilometre radius.
Before she could rise, he was already there. His hand grabbed her throat and slammed her deeper into the earth.
CRACK.
The ground split open like a broken shell.
Emma coughed, then laughed. Blood dripped from her lips.
"...That’s more like it."
Her body surged with power again. The moon above them flared brighter, making her wounds heal instantly.
Her strength spiked, and she grabbed Ethan’s arm and bit down hard. Blood spilled.
Ethan’s eyes flickered.
He let her be for a moment, then his other hand drove into her side. The force of the hit caused her to let him go as she flew backwards again. She flipped midair, landing on all fours. Her breathing was heavier now, but her eyes burned brighter.
The ice around her thickened, and her presence deepened.
Fenrir.
It was not just a title, nor was it just power. It was a being. She stepped forward slowly. Each step froze the ground deeper.
"Again."
Ethan wiped the blood from his arm. His smile didn’t fade.
"Again."
They moved.
This time, there was no restraint. Their collision didn’t just break the ground. It erased it.
The two of them fought on, wave after wave of shocks bursting across the ground in endless waves of clashing claw and fist, of ice and bursts of heat, blood and breaking bones and bones snapping back together.
Emma’s claws tore through Ethan’s armor, drawing more blood. Ethan’s strikes shattered her ribs, only for them to reform moments later. She let out a mighty howl, summoning a maelstrom of lunar ice that devoured the battlefield. He answered with raw force, tearing through it like a god descending.
The void-born in the distance fled even faster.
They knew this was not their world anymore. Minutes passed or seconds. Time had no meaning here.
Finally, they separated, both breathing heavily, both covered in blood.
And they were both smiling.
In that instant, Emma stood tall, her hybrid form radiating an otherworldly power, and for a fleeting second, the moonlight that shrouded her turned into a cape.
Ethan rolled his shoulders, cracks echoing as his body healed. They stared at each other. No words were conveyed, only understanding.
This wasn’t about dominance alone; it was about recognition, about proving, "I can stand beside you."
The ground beneath them shattered one last time as they both moved for the final clash.
And this time, there would be a winner.
