Chapter 302 - 251: Dragon and Tiger Fight (2)
He, like Tiger Stripes, liked to be the boss.
But if the cat and dog started fighting, it would be a real headache.
"Tian Kui!"
Shen Xin shouted.
In the distance, Tian Kui, who was chasing Sheriff, screeched to a halt, then turned his head and barked at Shen Xin.
He barked complainingly.
It was as if he were saying, ’It’s not my fault. He started it.’
Shen Xin walked over, stuffed a treat into Tian Kui’s mouth to shut him up, and said, "Stop barking. I saw what happened."
Shen Xin had seen it all perfectly clearly.
Tian Kui had been lying on the grass when Sheriff snuck around behind him and suddenly pounced on his back in an ambush.
Only then had Tian Kui given chase.
"Sheriff!"
Shen Xin shouted sternly at Sheriff, who was in the distance.
He was now at four bars of affinity, and being so smart, he was already quite affectionate.
The moment Shen Xin called, he immediately ran over, scrambled onto Shen Xin’s body in a couple of quick leaps, and perched on his shoulder, hissing at Tian Kui on the ground.
"Still hissing!"
Shen Xin tugged his ear in admonishment.
The little guy was just plain naughty; he loved to provoke Tian Kui whenever he had nothing better to do.
And it wasn’t just Tian Kui; he bothered the police dogs at the base, too.
The original plan had been to keep Sheriff at the precinct.
But the old problem remained: Sheriff only recognized Shen Xin and wouldn’t let anyone else pet him.
Da Mei, at least, let people pet her now.
There was no other way. Plus, since he needed to raise the cat’s affinity level, Shen Xin simply brought him to the base.
And in just a few days, he had turned the entire base upside down.
This little guy slept during the day and was active at night, the exact opposite of the police dogs.
At night, when the police dogs were all resting, he, on the other hand, couldn’t be contained by the kennel bars. He would saunter from one kennel to the next.
Bothering the police dogs wasn’t enough; he had to pester the people, too.
Late at night, the all-black cat would hide in the shadows, completely invisible, and had already scared people several times.
Just a moment ago, the chief of the base’s training division, Li Yinjiang, had been grumbling to Shen Xin about it.
He had forgotten to close his office window this morning. When he went to sit in his chair, he realized Sheriff was asleep on it.
The cat got a shock, and so did he.
He suggested to Shen Xin that it would be better to take Sheriff home and raise him there.
If the police dogs couldn’t rest properly, it affected their training the next day.
In reality, Sheriff wasn’t intentionally harassing them; he was just extremely playful and completely unafraid of the police dogs, which were much larger than he was.
Shen Xin took Sheriff aside to pet him.
Just then, from the obstacle course next to the training grounds where daily drills were held, came a sudden chorus of barks.
Shen Xin looked over and saw several police dogs in training suddenly barking nonstop in a single direction for some unknown reason. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Chen Guo and the other handlers were trying to pull the dogs back.
Sheriff, who had been lying in Shen Xin’s arms enjoying a belly rub, suddenly raised his head. His ears swiveled, and then with a WHOOSH, he shot away.
Shen Xin, wondering what had happened, hurried after him.
Sheriff was incredibly fast, heading straight for the obstacle course.
Chen Guo was pulling Knight away.
"Shen Xin, don’t come over, there’s a snake!" Li Yinjiang was there too and hurriedly stopped Shen Xin.
Then he immediately had Chen Guo and the others pull the police dogs away so they wouldn’t get bitten.
Only then did Shen Xin see it: in the grass about ten meters away, there was a spicy stick over a meter long.
It had a gray, patterned body and a triangular head—it had to be a viper.
Its appearance startled all the police dogs present.
Dogs are actually quite afraid of snakes.
Especially dogs that have seldom seen snakes and have no experience dealing with them; they have an instinctual fear.
Wang Zhuo suggested, "How about we find a stick and nudge it away?"
Chen Guo, however, simply picked up a rock and threw it at the viper.
The rock landed right beside it, causing the snake to recoil and writhe.
Li Yinjiang quickly stopped him. "Leave it alone! It’ll leave on its own in a bit."
The police dog base was at the foot of a mountain. Although it was surrounded by walls on all four sides, there were still a few gaps here and there.
Now that it was March and spring was returning to the Earth, it was precisely the time for snakes to come out and be active.
In past years, there had been incidents of snakes getting into the base, sometimes even making their way into the kennels and biting police dogs.
This was a venomous viper. Li Yinjiang didn’t dare get close, thinking it was best to just let it leave on its own.
Chen Guo said, "Lao Li, you’re being a little too optimistic. What if it doesn’t leave?"
The problem wasn’t whether it would leave, but where it might go.
What if it ran off to the office block, found a warm spot, and crawled into someone’s bed? That would be horrifying.
Wang Zhuo nodded in agreement. "Why don’t we call the fire department?"
Li Yinjiang shot him a speechless look. ’No matter what kind of technical police we are, we’re still police. A group of cops, scared by a single snake, calling the fire department for help? How humiliating would that be!’
Another colleague mustered his courage and said, "It’s just a snake. Grab it behind the head with one hand, hold the tail with the other. It’s a piece of cake."
After he said that, he noticed everyone was staring at him.
Chen Guo said, "Why don’t you go, then?"
The colleague looked awkward. "I’m just saying, that’s how they catch snakes online. Snakes are actually timid and won’t attack people."
Li Yinjiang rolled his eyes.
’So you’re one of those armchair experts,’ he thought.
Gazing at the viper, over a meter long and as thick as a child’s arm, Li Yinjiang felt his own skin crawl. He just reminded everyone to hold on tight to their dogs and not let them run over.
Just then, Sheriff, who had run over and observed the scene from the perimeter, suddenly shot forward.
Shen Xin didn’t even have time to stop him.
Sheriff was a blur as he pounced, flying right over the viper’s head.
The movement clearly provoked the viper. The snake’s head lunged upward, trying to bite Sheriff.
But Sheriff twisted his body in mid-air and dodged it.
He landed beside the snake.
Everyone gasped in shock!
The viper’s body writhed as it turned and lunged at Sheriff again.
It had probably just woken from hibernation and was starving. Out searching for prey, its drive to attack was incredibly strong.
