Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 117: Divine Blessing
Returning to the villa, Alanna didn’t wait for Waldo to enter the house; she immediately hugged him and praised, "What you did today was so satisfying! Before this, we saw the video of you wiping out the Drug lord team without hesitation when you went straight to their camp. You posted it on the public channel, so everyone could see it."
Helen didn’t say anything, but her eyes sparkled, clearly looking up to Waldo as an idol. Indeed, spending time with Waldo revealed his charm.
Waldo felt a bit embarrassed under the gaze of the two young women. "Um, could you not stare at me like two she-wolves? It feels like you’re about to shoot laser beams at me."
Both women were speechless. What was admiration in their eyes became "shooting laser beams" when it came out of Waldo’s mouth.
"Oh, by the way, Alanna and Helen, did you use the backpack upgrade scrolls I gave you?" Waldo suddenly changed the subject.
The backpack upgrade scroll, as the name suggests, is used to upgrade a survivor’s system backpack. It increases the storage capacity and the number of item slots.
The backpack upgrades are categorized as beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Every survivor starts with a beginner backpack, which is sufficient initially. However, as a survivor’s strength and the number of acquired resources grow, the beginner backpack may become inadequate.
Large teams like the police station and Saturn usually have their core members with full backpacks. In general, they don’t trust others to keep their belongings. This is why they build storage rooms or leave vehicles and large weapons outside to free up backpack space.
Because of these reasons, backpack upgrade scrolls are highly sought after.
When Waldo sold the water purifiers earlier, he traded with someone for one of these scrolls. He used two himself to upgrade his backpack to advanced. The biggest haul from the destruction of the police station was probably the ten backpack upgrade scrolls.
Waldo used two more, leaving eight scrolls, which he then handed over to Alanna and Helen.
In response to Waldo’s question, both of them nodded. "Of course, we upgraded! It didn’t require any other materials; just a few clicks, and it was done. So easy! After the upgrade, the capacity increased significantly, and we can now stockpile more resources for the upcoming meteor shower."
To upgrade from beginner to intermediate, one scroll was required, while two scrolls were needed to upgrade from intermediate to advanced. With ten scrolls, they had more than enough to upgrade all three of their backpacks to advanced and still have some left.
"Well, I just didn’t want you two to slack off or forget about it," Waldo said with a smile.
Just then, Alanna suddenly became very curious and asked, "Did you find anything good at the Drug lord camp?"
Since Waldo wiped out the Drug lord team, all the resources, good or bad, naturally ended up in his pocket. Alanna was very curious to know what kind of valuable items a major team like Drug lord might have.
Waldo smiled and gently touched Alanna’s hair. "Let’s go inside."
Once inside, Waldo drank a bottle of water and then took out a rocket launcher and a seemingly ordinary stone. "The biggest haul was this rocket launcher and this piece of Divine Blessing."
Alanna and Helen weren’t too surprised by the rocket launcher. After all, they had Gatling machine guns and armored vehicles in their home. Having one more rocket launcher was just icing on the cake.
However, they were curious about the "Divine Blessing." Did this world really have gods? Could they make a wish to return to the old world?
Helen picked up the dull, green stone and laughed, saying, "Alanna, maybe your wish can’t be fulfilled. Look at the description of the Divine Blessing."
"Divine Blessing: When placed in the backpack, it increases the chance of gaining superpowers when the holder reaches level ten."
Alanna exclaimed in disappointment, "Is that it? I thought it would be more impressive!"
Waldo shook his head with a smile. "You really have a treasure in your hands, but you don’t even know it! This thing is much more precious to us than anything else!"
Indeed, this Divine Blessing had the potential to increase the chance of gaining superpowers, something that many level ten survivors couldn’t achieve. They either didn’t get superpowers at all or gained relatively ordinary ones.
But with the Divine Blessing, the chances of gaining superpowers could be greatly improved, possibly changing their destinies completely. Alanna herself was lucky enough to awaken a superpower, so she didn’t immediately recognize its value.
As for whether there were real gods in this world, it wasn’t a question they were considering right now. Survival was the top priority.
However, Waldo was a bit curious. Drug lord had such a divine artifact, yet not a single person in their team awakened any superpowers. What he didn’t know was that the Divine Blessing originally belonged to the police station.
Sheriff didn’t carry such a valuable treasure with him; instead, he left it in the headquarters because there was a core member about to reach level ten who kept watch over it temporarily.
But who could have foreseen so many subsequent events? Life is unpredictable. This Divine Blessing had only been in Drug lord’s possession for a few days before ending up in Waldo’s hands.
Waldo wondered if the upcoming level twenty and thirty could awaken new superpowers. He was truly looking forward to it.
Currently, the system’s level cap was still level ten, but experience points could still be accumulated. Waldo had accumulated a lot of them. When the next level cap opened up, he could easily jump several levels.
Helen analyzed, "The level cap probably won’t be raised in the short term. After all, the meteor shower is about to arrive, and it wouldn’t make much sense to raise the level limit at this critical moment. By then, all survivors will have to hide in underground bunkers to save their lives. Where would they find the opportunity to level up?"
Waldo nodded in agreement. "You’re right."
Then, he turned to Helen and said, "Helen, I remember you’re about to reach level ten, right?"
Helen nodded. "Yes, before teaming up with Russ, I could barely manage not to starve to death, and I had to be cautious when killing zombies. After arriving at the villa, so much has happened that I haven’t had the chance to accumulate experience points."
Without hesitation, Waldo handed the Divine Blessing to Helen. "You take this. Tomorrow, we’ll go hunting zombies to help you level up before the meteor shower arrives. Time is of the essence."
