Chapter 138: Special Weed Killer
Boom!
The rocket exploded, emitting thick black smoke. The people couldn’t see clearly what was happening inside. Was the robot destroyed?
Soon, a vivid red light pierced through the rolling smoke, like the eyes of death.
In an instant, West emerged from the smoke, his blade flashing. He swiftly struck down the person at the forefront.
"What the hell! Why can’t we kill this robot with rockets?"
"Retreat!"
Now or never! The group immediately turned and ran. Revenge for their leader was one thing, but sacrificing themselves was another matter.
With a loud roar, West’s thrusters ignited to their maximum power. In a burst of supersonic pursuit, he systematically eliminated the fleeing members of the Swordbreakers.
Sitting at the driver’s seat of the armored vehicle, Waldo watched as West chased further and further. He muttered, "This aggression is even stronger than mine..."
Soon, West returned, carrying something in his hand.
"Master, all enemies have been eliminated. Additionally, these are items I found in the woods. I’m not sure what they are, please inspect them."
Waldo took the items and widened his eyes. "Are you secretly a treasure-hunting robot?"
The items were of diamond quality, something Waldo had never seen before. Platinum-level items were already impressive, but he couldn’t even imagine how formidable diamond-level items would be. He wondered if they were missiles or even nuclear bombs.
Alanna and Helen also saw the diamond-level items and were left speechless. The sudden surprise was too shocking.
"Oh my goodness, is this really a diamond-level item? How did he manage to bring back such a massive gift?"
"It seems so. Okay, I need to calm down. This is just too surprising."
Waldo accepted the diamond-level items and looked at West. "How did you acquire these?"
Higher-level items are usually guarded by numerous zombies.
West had only entered the woods briefly, so it was unlikely he had fought a bloody battle to obtain them.
West respectfully explained, "Master, while pursuing the remaining enemies, I encountered a group of people in the woods who were guarding these items. They must have gone through a fierce battle earlier."
"I see."
Waldo found it amusing. "So, you were scavenging?"
He patted West’s mechanical shoulder. "Good job!"
West remained respectful. "Serving my master is my duty."
Alanna urged, "Waldo, quickly open the diamond-level items and see what’s inside. I’m really curious to know what kind of items are classified as diamond-level."
Helen nodded in agreement, her eyes filled with anticipation. "I’m excited too."
Waldo chuckled. "Not only you, but I’m also very curious. Let’s open it!"
Looking at the platinum-glowing items, Waldo carefully opened them.
Describing them as rare treasures was not an exaggeration.
[Successfully opened diamond-level items]
[Obtained Ultra Weed Killer Blueprint]
[Obtained AK47 Rifle x1]
[Obtained Defense Combat Suit x5]
[Obtained Energy Pulse Sword x2]
The diamond-level items truly didn’t disappoint. Their quality was top-notch, with none of them falling below the level of gold.
Among them was a diamond-level item, the [Ultra Weed Killer Blueprint].
Waldo distributed the AK47 and combat suits to Alanna and Helen. Their ability to protect themselves had now significantly increased. Waldo was well aware of the impressive defensive capabilities of the combat suits, especially after being upgraded with special alloys.
As for the energy pulse swords, Waldo kept one for himself and handed the other to West. With these powerful weapons, West’s strength would multiply several times over.
Lastly, Waldo looked at the blueprint. Although its name was ordinary, it was the nemesis of the mutant plants that ravaged the cities.
[Special Weed Killer Blueprint]
Can produce a special weed killer that eradicates mutant plants completely.
Eradicate. Waldo scrutinized that word.
After double-checking, he realized why this blueprint was classified as diamond-level. These mutant plants were more formidable than zombies or other mutants. In his assessment, they were second only to natural disasters.
Up until now, no survivors had managed to solve the problem, let alone eradicate them. But now he understood that the key to eradicating mutant plants lay in this diamond-level [Special Weed Killer Blueprint].
However, there was a catch. One of the ingredients for making this special weed killer was a rare material: Star Grass.
Currently, there weren’t many available on the trading platform—almost none.
Waldo could only start buying as much as possible from the trading platform to use for making the special weed killer.
[Do you want to make the Special Weed Killer?]
[Yes/No]
After collecting the necessary materials to make the Special Weed Killer, Waldo began the production process.
Clicking [Yes].
The system then displayed the required materials for making the Special Weed Killer.
[Special Weed Killer]
Water: (∞/10)
Star Grass: (19/1)
Ordinary Weed Killer: (23/1)
Start production.
Waldo placed all the Star Grass he had into the production process and produced several bottles of Special Weed Killer.
He handed a few bottles to Alanna and Helen, just in case.
Holding the bottle filled with blue liquid, Alanna was curious. "Waldo, is this the diamond-level item we found earlier? It doesn’t seem that extraordinary."
Waldo shook his head and corrected her. "Don’t underestimate it. This Special Weed Killer can cover a large area and effectively eradicate mutant plants. You don’t need much of it. Just spraying a bit at the roots of a mutant plant will cause it to wither rapidly."
Excited, Alanna suggested, "Shall we give it a try?"
Waldo nodded, as that was his intention as well.
Something so extraordinary couldn’t be left untested. After all, practice is the only criterion for testing truth.
Not long after they set off, Waldo and his group encountered mutant plants. At that moment, the plants were attacking a small group of survivors, four or five individuals who were defenseless against the vines’ strikes.
Upon witnessing this scene, Waldo nodded in affirmation. It was a perfect opportunity to test their special weed killer and determine its effectiveness. If it didn’t work, they could retreat.
The three of them exited the vehicle and headed towards the mutant plants. Presl was unlucky to have encountered mutant plants again. Facing these creatures now was like winning the jackpot in a lottery – pure luck or pure misfortune.
Presl’s group had just survived an attack from mutant plants, and they were without molotov cocktails. They had sustained some injuries as well. Their leader had even been pierced through the abdomen by the mutant plant’s tendrils and was now gritting his teeth in agony. His survival prospects were uncertain.
With only four or five people left in their group and a few handguns, it seemed inevitable that they would meet the same fate as their leader soon – pierced and consumed by the mutant plants.
The leader, lying on the ground, suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood, his condition worsening rapidly. Just then, the three unknown survivors approached them, a man in silver battle armor leading two strikingly beautiful women.
These three survivors walked boldly towards the mutant plants, seemingly oblivious to the danger they were facing. Presl couldn’t understand – didn’t they realize how terrifying mutant plants were? Didn’t they know what happened to their leader?
The mutant plants had fatally injured their leader by striking him with their tendrils. Was their confidence really enough to challenge these formidable creatures? Were they courting death?
Presl couldn’t bear to watch and shouted, "Hey! Mutant plants are too dangerous. Don’t go there and get yourselves killed!"
The three strangers halted in their tracks. Presl heaved a sigh of relief, thinking that maybe they had some sense after all. Then, Waldo turned to face him and drew an energy pulse sword from thin air.
Presl’s jaw nearly dropped. What was that weapon? Wasn’t that the sort of thing you’d see in a sci-fi movie? Presl wasn’t sure if he was hallucinating or just going mad.
Alanna spoke, "Waldo, be careful out there."
Helen added, "Good luck."
Waldo nodded in response, his determination apparent. Presl was a mix of emotions – a bit sour and a bit envious. But then, his negative emotions were replaced by shock.
What was Waldo doing? He was charging right into the heart of the mutant plant’s defenses. Presl couldn’t believe it. Why wasn’t he listening to reason?
Presl shouted, "Hey, don’t joke with your life! Mutant plants are deadly! Come back!"
Alanna smiled at him and turned back. "Don’t worry, he’s not afraid of these mutant plants."
Presl couldn’t believe his ears. What was going on? These two women seemed so calm. Did they trust their companion so completely? Did they believe he could escape unharmed?
Presl shook his head, bemused. Suddenly, the mutant plants launched an attack.
Presl knew that the plants were getting angry. They started whipping their tendrils, and the sight was all too familiar.
The tendrils had struck down their leader, piercing through his abdomen. Could it be happening again?
But then, Waldo did something Presl couldn’t believe. He grabbed onto the tendrils, using them to propel himself closer to the mutant plants.
How many battles did one have to fight to develop such quick reflexes and instincts?
As Waldo closed in on the roots of the mutant plants, the plants seemed to sense his intentions. The tendrils tightened, trapping him. Protecting their roots was their top priority.
Waldo wielded the energy pulse sword and swung it repeatedly, managing to cut through the tendrils. However, it seemed futile as the tendrils would simply grow back.
"Damn it!" Presl cursed. He had seen enough survivors underestimate the mutant creatures of this world and end up losing their lives.
Yet, something unexpected happened. The mutant plants suddenly began to wither. The tendrils turned yellow, shriveled, and died. It was as if their life force was being drained away.
Presl’s eyes widened. The mutant plants were dying? How was this possible? Hadn’t they been warned repeatedly that there was no way to kill these plants?
As the mutant plants perished before his eyes, Waldo emerged from the dying vines. Presl was stunned. Not only had Waldo survived, but the mutant plants were actually dead. He was witnessing the impossible.
Waldo approached him, along with Alanna and Helen, removing his battle armor to reveal his handsome face and well-built physique.
Presl’s mouth twitched. "He’s even more handsome than me."
As Waldo removed his armor and joined the women, he smiled and explained, "The special weed killer is truly remarkable. Just a drop on the roots of the mutant plants causes them to wither visibly."
Alanna was thrilled. "That’s great! We won’t have to fear mutant plants anymore."
Helen, however, was more cautious. "Getting close to the roots of mutant plants is still difficult. Waldo can do it, but for us, it’s more challenging."
Waldo added, "Applying the weed killer on the tendrils is effective too, but it requires more of the substance. When it’s crucial, we don’t need to be stingy."
Helen’s eyes lit up as she finally understood the possibilities.
