Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 141: [Bonus - ]Executing Leonard
Leonard’s subordinates brought by him finally reacted. Judging by the situation, it might be a massive explosion. Disperse quickly and watch out for cover!
However, before they could react, West’s laser cannon fired. Deploy the energy wings!
In an instant, the enemies on the right side of West’s position were wiped out. The few survivors who managed to survive sat on the ground, looking at the laser cannon trail that seemed to have been dug three feet deep, and were utterly terrified.
Run! They struggled to get up and flee.
West pulled out an energy pulse sword, completing the final harvest. Leonard was truly panicked at this point.
The other three directions were rapidly changing. In a blink of an eye, only their side had no issues. But, Waldo was nowhere to be seen!
Leonard watched Waldo vanish right in front of him, probably using his invisibility ability. How could he have such a rogue power?
At that moment, Waldo reappeared just two or three meters from Leonard.
Leonard looked at the fierce battle armor and the energy pulse sword in Waldo’s hand, a tinge of fear finally crossing his face.
Block him! Leonard shouted.
His subordinates attempted to raise their guns and shoot, but Waldo cut their hands off together. Then, with a perfect sword technique, the heads of the few subordinates near Leonard rolled off.
The energy pulse sword was truly formidable. Unlike the previous critical hit katana, it didn’t just go for a row of seated enemies, leaving them all headless.
With a sword in one hand and a gun in the other, Waldo used his invisibility ability to get close to Leonard and effortlessly dealt with the survivors around him.
In the blink of an eye, only Leonard remained standing. Alanna, Helen, Chubby, and West had each dealt with their assigned opponents and now stood behind Waldo, coldly staring at Leonard.
Leonard attempted to flee, but Waldo kicked his kneecap, shattering it. He could only clutch his knee, sweating profusely.
"You’re still threatening me at this point?" Waldo raised an eyebrow mockingly.
"Things have come this far, and you’re still trying to intimidate me?" Waldo aimed his pistol at Leonard, his expression cold.
"Goodbye." Bang!
Leonard fell onto the streets of the East District, his eyes wide open, lifeless. Even his last chance to reveal the force behind him was lost.
Helen looked at Leonard’s body with a worried expression. "Waldo, was it too hasty? This Leonard seemed to have some background, and he was fearless until the very end."
Waldo smiled, holstering his gun. "Let’s not worry too much. As I said, we’ll deal with whatever comes our way."
Helen sighed. It was true, as Waldo had said. This time, they had been forced into a fight they couldn’t avoid. They were newcomers to the city, and if they offended any local forces, they would be in a disadvantageous position.
"Just like Leonard said, we might face endless pursuit until one side is eliminated," Helen acknowledged.
But now, they didn’t even know who was backing Leonard. Waldo shot him without any hesitation, which worried Helen.
Waldo ruffled Alanna’s hair affectionately. "You have to trust your man’s abilities. Don’t worry, I’ve got this."
Both women nodded, reassured by his words.
Waldo continued, "Since shopping seems to be out of the question, let’s focus on finding a suitable house for our headquarters."
They had planned to settle in this prosperous city for a while, which meant finding a comfortable place to stay was important.
The three of them got back into the armored vehicle and scouted around for houses. Since they were planning to stay in the city for an extended period, they needed a place they could call their own.
Finding a suitable home was proving to be a challenge. Each of them had their own preferences, and no property seemed to satisfy all their needs.
Waldo liked a certain house, but Alanna had objections. Helen liked another, but Waldo found fault with it. The process was more complicated since they had specific requirements, like space for cultivating fruits and vegetables.
As they explored different neighborhoods, they realized that many houses were already occupied by survivors, and the ones they could afford were often too small or not ideal.
Sitting inside the armored vehicle, they exchanged looks of frustration.
Waldo scratched his head, exasperated. "Do any of you have any ideas? We’ve seen all the available houses already, ladies."
Before he could finish speaking, both Alanna and Helen firmly disagreed with his suggestion.
"It’s not suitable!"
Waldo shrugged and sighed. "Alright, ladies. Let’s keep searching. We’ll find something eventually."
Looking at the two beautiful women in front of him, Waldo had grown tired of even discussing buying a house all day long. He just wanted to lie down in bed and get a good night’s sleep.
Just at this moment, Helen suddenly said, "I remember, there’s one place we haven’t seen yet."
Waldo was taken aback. "You mean there’s still a villa community we haven’t seen?"
Alanna, with a thoughtful expression, said, "Helen, are you talking about that villa community?"
Helen nodded. "Yes, that’s the one."
Waldo was puzzled. "So, I’m the only one who doesn’t know where it is?"
He pursed his lips and asked directly, "So, where is it exactly? If you two keep playing guessing games with me, I won’t be polite anymore!"
Alanna blushed slightly, rolled her eyes, and said, "It’s the most luxurious villa community that used to be in the East City District. The environment and layout there should meet our requirements."
Waldo was puzzled. "Why haven’t we heard the real estate agent mention it before? How come they didn’t tell us about this villa community?"
Helen explained, "Because that villa community has been taken over by mutated plants and is uninhabitable. We found out from the local survivors’ chat channel."
Waldo’s face lit up. "For others, mutated plants are a big problem. But for us, with the special herbicides, it’s not an issue at all. So, why wait? Let’s go check out the situation over there."
Soon after, they arrived at the once most luxurious villa community in the East City District. These villas were truly luxurious, with both houses and yards, covering an estimated area of two to three square kilometers!
Unfortunately, there was no one living here anymore. Each villa was covered in mutated vines.
Large yards, few people around, peaceful surroundings, and a good location – these were exactly the criteria that Waldo and his companions were looking for, and this place fulfilled them all.
"This is it," Waldo decided immediately.
This time, neither Alanna nor Helen opposed; they both agreed. "This place is indeed beautiful, so let’s choose this one."
The villa’s yard even had a swimming pool, and the yard’s size rivaled that of the one Waldo had in his previous home.
Waldo messaged the East City District real estate agent: "Hello, I want to buy a house."
The real estate agent was pleased. "What type of house are you looking for? We have various options, including apartment-style homes, large flats, townhouses, and standalone villas."
Waldo directly stated, "I want to buy the villa community surrounded by mutated plants, the best location, and the number one residence there."
The agent’s enthusiasm quickly faded. Previously, these villas could indeed fetch sky-high prices. But now, due to the invasion of mutated plants, they were hard to sell.
The agent sent a message: "Twenty units of S Alloy, fixed price, and I’ll transfer the ownership of the villa you’re interested in directly to you."
Similar to how Waldo and his companions moved into their previous residence, safe havens came with a system assistant.
Waldo wasn’t in a hurry; he felt the price could be lower. "How about ten units of S Alloy?"
The agent was taken aback. Cutting the price in half straight away.
He firmly replied, "That’s not possible. Twenty units of S Alloy is the bottom line, and it’s already quite cheap! Show me which villa you can get for twenty units of S Alloy."
Indeed, twenty units of S Alloy was already a very low price. Compared to the villas without mutated plant infestations that went for several hundred units of S Alloy, it was practically a giveaway.
Waldo persisted, "Boss, you’ve got these villas just sitting around, and you won’t make any profit from them. How about ten units of S Alloy? You’ll still make a profit."
The agent was somewhat helpless and didn’t want to drag on with this villa. He decided to go along with Waldo’s suggestion. "Alright, alright, ten units it is!"
They started to negotiate. After receiving ten units of S Alloy, the agent transferred the ownership of the villa they had chosen to Waldo’s group.
From that moment on, Waldo and his companions became the owners of that villa.
Ding! A notification arrived in Waldo’s system mailbox, informing him that the ownership of the villa had been transferred to him by the real estate agent.
Soon after, Waldo received a reminder from the residential assistant: "Dear owner, there are a large number of mutated plants outside your residence. Please clear them as soon as possible!"
"Let’s go inside and take a look," Waldo said.
Waldo led the group, opened the villa’s gate, and walked into the yard.
The vines entwined around the walls sensed their presence and immediately rushed to repel them.
These mutated plants lacked intelligence but often acted on their instincts. However, they had a strong territorial awareness.
Seeing Waldo and his group suddenly intrude, their instinct was to drive them away.
The mutated plants bared their teeth and attacked. Moreover, they had tough, steel-like exteriors.
Ordinary survivors wouldn’t dare provoke them head-on. Only Waldo would casually approach them.
"Alanna, Helen, don’t come into the yard yet. Wait outside," Waldo instructed as he put on his combat gear.
Alanna and Helen obediently nodded. "Okay, we’ll wait for you outside. Be safe."
Waldo nodded in response and went straight into the villa.
He needed to find the roots of the mutated plants inside and spray them with the special herbicide.
Inside the villa, Waldo searched but found no signs of intrusion. The roots of the mutated plants didn’t seem to extend from the inside.
Strange.
Waldo followed the vines attached to the outer wall and headed toward the roof. He assumed the roots of the mutated plants would be hidden inside the villa.
But reality contradicted his assumption.
He needed a different approach to locate the roots of the mutated plants. They weren’t extending from inside, as he had assumed.
He needed to find another way.
On the rooftop, coarse vines were sprawling, sticking to the ground like octopuses with suction cups.
Waldo’s unexpected appearance seemed to wake them from slumber. They attacked with unmatched agility that contradicted their appearance, lunging at Waldo.
However, Waldo wasn’t planning to engage in combat. His secondary plan involved following these rooftop vines to find the roots of the mutated plants.
It was a dangerous method, but it was the most effective way to locate the roots.
Evading the attacks of the vines, Waldo jumped onto the vines and followed them toward the roots’ location.
The mutated plants sensed their roots were about to be attacked and began retracting the vines to shield the roots.
But Waldo was quicker, and he sprayed the special herbicide on the roots before they could protect themselves.
The mutated plants encountered their mortal enemy, and despite their struggles, they couldn’t prevent their vines from withering.
Soon, the roots rotted away.
The lifeless mutated plants stopped encroaching on the villa that Waldo and his companions had purchased. Instead, they lay in the backyard, defeated.
