Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 150: Enemy attack
After returning to the guard camp, Delgado immediately convened a meeting with his elite team to develop a series of operational plans. The meeting lasted well into the night before it was declared concluded.
Back in his room, Jerom opened a chat window on the system and contacted Duncan. Duncan, who was awakened in the middle of the night by Jerom’s call request, was initially annoyed but quickly became alert upon seeing Jerom’s contact.
"What’s going on?" Duncan asked.
Jerom got straight to the point, "Delgado is preparing to attack the Gold Blade Gang this Saturday. He even managed to get Waldo to assist him as an ally, promising to give him eighty percent of the gang’s resources!"
Duncan chuckled sarcastically, "Seems like they’re treating our Gold Blade Gang like a walk in the park."
Jerom’s tone turned serious, "It appears that our plans need to be accelerated."
Duncan pondered and then replied, "We still need some time to prepare. Let’s keep Friday as planned, but we need to move quickly."
Jerom agreed with a nod. "That’s the only option now."
The two hung up, with everything in place and action imminent.
The next morning, the sun rose as usual. Waldo and his companions, Alanna and Helen, were up early. With the battle scheduled for the next day, Waldo wanted to discuss the details with Delgado.
Even though Waldo thought that Alanna and Helen didn’t need to wake up early, they insisted. They urged Waldo to maintain a regular sleep schedule and keep his energy up.
Last night, Waldo tried to make a move on them, but Alanna and Helen formed an alliance and firmly turned him down, pushing him into the adjacent bedroom to rest. In their words, they were "saving energy."
They were aware of the imminent danger of the upcoming battle and wanted to ensure Waldo was in the best condition.
Tomorrow marked a critical battle, ten or even a hundred times more dangerous than any previous encounter. Although Waldo was not overly concerned, Alanna and Helen, as his companions, were still nervous for him.
"Waldo, is the ammunition for the firearms all loaded?" Helen asked worriedly, her and Alanna’s voices overlapping.
"Is it really unnecessary for West and Chubby to go to the guard camp with you?" Alanna added.
Waldo held the two women in his arms and reassured them, "Don’t worry so much. They’re just coming along for the ride. As for West and Chubby, their task is to protect you. They don’t need to do anything else."
Turning to West and Chubby, he instructed, "You two need to be vigilant. There’s a good chance that the Gold Blade Gang will attack our villa. You must protect Alanna and Helen."
"Yes, Master," they both replied obediently.
"Roar," Chubby echoed.
Alanna pouted and said, "We’ll be waiting for your good news at home, Waldo."
Helen held Waldo even tighter without saying a word.
"Okay, just wait for me at home. No need to worry too much."
"Alright."
Waldo released Alanna and Helen. "I think the guard camp’s car is ready to pick me up."
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Waldo laughed, "Speak of the devil. Well, I’m heading out now."
The car sent by the guard camp to pick up Waldo had arrived. The driver was standing beside the car, ready to assist.
Alanna and Helen walked with Waldo to the door.
"We’ll see you off," Alanna said.
The three of them walked out together. As they reached the yard and Waldo was about to open the gate, the guard camp soldiers and the car suddenly exploded.
Boom!
"RPG!"
Waldo immediately ordered Alanna and Helen to return to the house, while he remained shielded behind an energy barrier, watching the chaos unfolding not far away.
"Enemy attack!"
The sudden attack was fierce, but Waldo remained composed rather than panicked, keeping a close watch on the opposing forces. Their attire was a clear giveaway – they were members of the Gold Blade Gang. Unexpectedly, the gang had taken the initiative. It was likely that a battle was also unfolding at the guard camp.
Waldo coldly observed as a large group of Gold Blade Gang members quickly surrounded his villa. This time, the gang was well-prepared, armed with an array of advanced weapons: rocket launchers, submachine guns, flamethrowers – all sorts of high-grade weaponry. It seemed that after suffering a significant loss last time, Duncan had become quite wary. This time, they aimed to eliminate him completely.
Waldo flexed his fingers. Little did he expect that instead of him going to the Gold Blade Gang, they had come knocking on his door. They truly underestimated him.
[Warning, energy shield energy depletion level has reached fifty percent, please address the source of energy depletion promptly.]
Facing the system’s warning, Waldo pinched his ear in annoyance. "I know, so I’m going out to deal with these bastards, aren’t I? They dared to come and disrupt my home. They must be really bored with life."
The people outside the villa were different from before – no longer just causing minor disturbances, but a true organized force with overwhelming firepower. There were easily over a hundred of them – more than enough to overwhelm Waldo.
The earring-clad leader, holding a cigarette, coolly adjusted his hair. Observing the ripples forming on Waldo’s defensive shield and how it gradually turned transparent, he knew it wouldn’t be long before the shield was shattered. When that happened, even if Waldo was formidable, he couldn’t withstand the attack of over a hundred Gold Blade Gang members.
"Continue pounding him!" the earring-clad leader laughed heartily, shouting to his subordinates.
If they didn’t shout loudly, the deafening roar of explosions from the shells would have made it impossible for them to hear each other. The earring-clad leader’s gaze was fervent. If he personally killed Waldo, avenging Leonard, he wondered how Duncan would reward him. Countless beauties? Abundant resources? The more he thought, the more excited he got. This was an opportune moment to prove himself!
The rest of the Gold Blade Gang members were equally enthusiastic. If they could eliminate Waldo today, they would become heroes of the Gold Blade Gang. Duncan was clear with his rewards and punishments; there would be a substantial reward waiting for them.
"Ah! Let’s do it, take down Waldo! Give it your all, the energy shield is about to break!"
The earring-clad leader shouted with confidence. The others were also filled with high spirits.
Waldo, dressed in combat attire, was essentially invulnerable. Everyone was aware of this fact. However, the gang had brought flamethrowers, seeking to counter his resistance with the power of burning. Physical damage might not work, but they were trying to stack damage over time.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Just then, amidst the smoke, several machine gun rounds were fired. "Find cover!" the earring-clad leader urgently yelled. However, most of the people were still busy shooting and didn’t hear his warning clearly.
Only a few with keen eyesight saw the shells flying through the air and quickly took cover or laid down. Chaos ensued, with everyone scrambling to evade the sudden attack.
Who would have expected Waldo to open fire suddenly?
Boom!
As the smoke gradually dissipated after the explosion, the Gold Blade Gang members could finally see Waldo’s situation clearly. A large amphibious armored vehicle was parked in the villa’s courtyard, its massive barrel pointed in their direction. It looked like the second round of rapid fire was about to start.
"What the hell, they’ve got an armored vehicle now?"
Weren’t they saying this armored vehicle didn’t have any ammunition, that it was just an empty shell?
"Take cover! We need to get behind something!" the earring-clad leader urgently shouted.
But most of the gang members were still too busy shooting and hadn’t caught his words. Only a small number of them, who had spotted the incoming shells, quickly moved aside or hunkered down.
"Look out! It’s firing again!"
The Gold Blade Gang members were lying on the ground, trembling in fear. It was Waldo’s time to shine.
The second wave, the third wave – the 30mm cannon rounds rained down as if they were limitless, turning the area into ruins. Were there any survivors left, anyone still breathing?
"I’m still alive!"
"What about the captain?"
"The captain? Probably got his ass blown off a few rounds ago."
Confronted with Waldo’s all-around firepower assault, a few lucky ones managed to avoid the barrage of shells. Nevertheless, they were disheveled and terrified.
"Hey, it seems to have stopped. Shall we retreat?"
"Retreat? Where to? Back to the Gold Blade Gang? Deserting during battle is punishable by death!"
"So, you’re just gonna stand here and wait for death? I’m leaving you all behind. The world’s a big place, and I want to see it."
The last speaker half-raised his body, intending to leave the battlefield. But as he got up, a bullet from afar pierced through his head, dropping him to the ground. It was a shot fired by Waldo. He emerged from the armored vehicle, dressed in his combat attire, stepping out of the energy shield’s protective range to inspect if anyone had escaped.
That person had stood up right in front of him, giving Waldo the perfect shot.
Most of the other gang members were scared out of their wits.
So, should they move or stay put?
Moving might mean death, but not moving could also mean death!
About seven or eight lucky ones were still alive, hastily standing up and glaring at Waldo. They held their weapons tightly and began firing. Faced with a life-or-death crisis, their minds raced, and they decided to fight their way out.
"Deploy the Light Wings!"
A laser beam shot out from Waldo’s side, vaporizing the remaining Gold Blade Gang members on the scene. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
West had arrived.
Now, only one person remained before Waldo. This person had lost a leg and gazed pitifully at Waldo, trembling.
