Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 192: Petrification
Shadow Clone is quite a useful ability. Just imagine being in a battle and suddenly having an extra opponent appear, causing confusion and despair. Additionally, it can be used for exploring dangerous places. Waldo was quite satisfied with this ability.
He continued to use Shadow Clone several times to become familiar with this ability. After about an hour of experimentation, he had a preliminary understanding of it.
Firstly, the Shadow Clone was created from Waldo’s shadow, and he could have only one at a time. Secondly, the Shadow Clone possessed some combat capabilities, roughly equivalent to 30% of Waldo’s strength.
Thirdly, the Shadow Clone couldn’t stray more than a hundred meters from Waldo. Lastly, if the Shadow Clone was destroyed, he needed half an hour to use this ability again.
Waldo explained to Alanna and Helen, "Besides these four points, controlling the Shadow Clone requires some of my mental power. When using it, I have two entirely different perspectives simultaneously. It’s a very peculiar feeling."
Helen’s eyes began to shine as she exclaimed, "The Shadow Clone is so powerful, isn’t it? It can not only confuse opponents but also fight!"
Waldo smiled and nodded in agreement.
Shortly afterward, the two women inspected Waldo’s Shadow Clone, even giving it a gentle squeeze. It felt soft, lacking the substantial texture of his real body, like squeezing cotton. After a while, they grew tired of playing with it.
Alanna jogged over to Waldo and said expectantly, "Waldo, every time you level up by ten levels, you gain an ability. This time, reaching level fifty, besides Shadow Clone, you must have obtained another ability, right?"
Helen also turned her attention to Waldo, having forgotten that he had gained two rare and potentially powerful abilities all at once due to their earlier excitement.
Waldo nodded with a smile. "Of course, I have a fifth ability. However, I was busy experimenting with Shadow Clone just now, and I haven’t had a chance to explore the fifth ability yet."
Next, Waldo began to experiment with the use of his new ability.
The fifth ability, Petrification.
"I think I should know what kind of ability this is. Follow me," Waldo said.
He left their temporary shelter and headed outside. The nearby streets had already been cleared of zombies by Waldo and his group, but he quickly found a regular zombie huddled in a corner.
"Watch closely," Waldo reminded them.
Without any haste, Waldo approached the ordinary zombie that had suddenly appeared in front of him after his upgraded teleportation, showing a more effortless use of this ability.
"Roar!"
The ordinary zombie, seeing a human suddenly appear in front of it, let out a roar, its face twisted in a hideous manner, ready to pounce.
"Hmph," Waldo coldly snorted, his eyes coldly fixed on the approaching creature.
At the last moment, Waldo’s lips finally moved, and he uttered two words.
Petrification!
As these words left his lips, something eerie happened!
"Roar!"
The zombie’s roaring abruptly stopped. The ordinary zombie that was about to lunge at Waldo suddenly froze in place. Soon, a gray layer appeared on the surface of its skin, like a rocky substance.
In the next moment, its body rapidly transformed into a stone-like statue, visible to the naked eye.
"What’s going on?" the startled cries of the two women echoed from a distance. They hurriedly approached, staring in astonishment at the now petrified zombie.
At this moment, the zombie resembled a stone statue.
Curious, Helen reached out and touched the petrified zombie.
It had the texture of stone.
Helen took a deep breath, somewhat incredulous. "Does the Petrification ability turn other things, even living creatures, into stone? If that’s the case, can the zombies turned into stone still be considered alive?"
"No, they can’t survive; they’re already dead," Waldo explained.
He continued, "The zombies turned into stone are not just an external transformation; it includes their muscle tissues, brains, and internal organs. Everything is petrified."
"Is it really that powerful? You didn’t even lift a finger, just looked at the zombie, and it turned into stone. Your eyes must be like deadly weapons," Helen marveled, a touch of envy in her voice.
Alanna also marveled, saying, "So, you can kill without leaving a trace in the future. If someone rubs you the wrong way, one look from you, and they turn into stone. That’s incredibly powerful!"
However, she was somewhat perplexed as Waldo cut her off with a wry smile. "It’s not that simple. Using the Petrification ability will consume my mental power, so it’s not something I can use casually."
Waldo paused for a moment, then continued, "Moreover, this ability has limitations. Regular zombies might turn to stone with just a glance, but if I encounter a Level 3 zombie, I might need physical contact to petrify it."
His considerations were not without reason. If this ability could simply turn any zombie to stone with a glance, regardless of whether it was a regular, Level 2, or even a Level 3 zombie, it would be overpowered, like a game bug. Therefore, the possibility of that happening was very low. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Waldo suggested, "We can try it to confirm my hypothesis."
Waldo decided to seek out Level 2 and Level 3 zombies in the West district to validate his assumptions.
On a street in the West district, a massive and powerful Level 2 zombie, seemingly agitated by something, roared furiously and charged toward Waldo. However, under Waldo’s watchful gaze, this robust Level 2 zombie began to petrify.
The petrification started from its legs, spreading rapidly to other parts of its body, clearly visible to the naked eye. Soon, not much time had passed, and when this Level 2 zombie reached Waldo, it had already turned into a stone statue.
With a gentle push, the statue collapsed, breaking into three pieces.
Just at that moment, Alanna suddenly screamed, "Waldo, be careful! There’s a zombie behind you!"
Without waiting for Alanna to finish her sentence, Waldo swiftly turned around, facing the Level 2 zombie rushing towards him.
This zombie emerged from a nearby alley, filled with various debris, so Waldo hadn’t noticed it.
A Level 2 zombie. If it were before, I might have to be cautious, but now, it poses no threat at all! This is perfect!
Waldo coldly snorted.
In such unexpected situations, it would be dangerous for anyone else. For an average survivor at Level 20 or even Level 30, if not dealt with promptly, it could be life-threatening. But for Waldo, such circumstances were nonexistent.
