Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 312: Turning Point
"The Wilcher matter ultimately boils down to the Wind Alliance Leader’s issue!," someone pointed the finger at the Wind Alliance leader.
The Wind Alliance leader immediately retorted, "How is it my problem? Can you convince him? He’s not technically my subordinate; I can’t give him orders or threaten him. What can I do?"
"It’s just your incompetence! If you had the capability, would he not listen to you?" jeered one person, a controller from the Red Moon Alliance.
Seeing that an argument was about to break out between the two, others quickly stepped in to intervene.
Afterward, they began discussing the details of the upcoming operation and soon moved on to determining when to take action.
At this point, Greer, disguised as Waldo, spoke up, "In my opinion, the sooner, the better. Waiting might bring unforeseen complications. It’s best to act now, we are prepared, and we can strike at any moment. Rather than waiting and risking uncontrollable factors later on, let’s catch everyone off guard now!"
The others remained silent, their faces showing a thoughtful expression as if contemplating the feasibility.
"I think acting now is feasible," nodded the leader of the Red Moon Alliance. "Acting now can prevent surprises. If we delay, no one knows if Waldo’s people might become aware."
The others nodded in agreement.
Soon, they decided. They would strike tonight.
Shortly after, they began coordinating according to the action plan, sending messages and contacting their respective subordinates.
"The operation is tonight, everyone should be prepared. At exactly eight o’clock tonight, without the need for further orders, initiate the plan. Understood?!" Duncan instructed his subordinate, Craig.
Craig, a level-sixty ruler and Duncan’s trusted subordinate, responded from a factory, "Rest assured, sir. We have been prepared for a while. We only await your command. Tonight, I will lead my brothers and charge into the Lord’s mansion!"
"Good!"
Duncan nodded in satisfaction and then went to brief the others. Not only Duncan, but the leaders and controllers of the major alliances also contacted their subordinates, instructing them to prepare for the operation. Essentially, most of their trusted subordinates were willing to participate in this rebellion.
At this moment, a hidden current surged. The entire Dawn City seemed to be shrouded in a shadow, creating an unprecedented sense of oppression.
However, what everyone didn’t know was that on the other side, Waldo had already contacted Silva, Calvert, Wilcher, and others separately:
"The operation is tonight at eight o’clock. Pay attention and make sure there are no mistakes!"
Waldo didn’t mince words, openly stating this. The other controllers couldn’t help but glance at him because he spoke too loudly. Duncan even reminded him, "Greer, lower your voice. What if someone with ill intentions overhears?"
He had no idea that Waldo was speaking to someone else. He thought Waldo was discussing the rebellion with them, just like they were.
Little did he know, Waldo was actually informing them of their action plan and advising them to prepare countermeasures.
"Just wait, you won’t see the sun tomorrow!" Waldo sneered, despite nodding in agreement on the surface.
"Okay, I’ll speak more softly!"
Upon hearing this, Calvert, Silva, and the others, who were eager for action, brightened up.
"Understood, we promise to complete the mission without any unexpected incidents."
At the same time, Wilcher also assured, "Waldo, rest assured. There won’t be any problems on my end. Once they start their move, I can immediately send reinforcements to crush them."
Soon, Wilcher called for his subordinates.
In front of everyone, he openly confessed that he had completely sided with Waldo.
"What? Sir, you’ve sided with Waldo? Is this for real? Sir, you better not deceive us! If they succeed in seizing power, just based on this, they’ll surely go after you!"
"Does that mean Waldo already knows about their rebellion?"
"Does this imply that Waldo is already prepared, and their rebellion is doomed to fail?"
The crowd was astonished by Wilcher’s words. Although they had suspected some things earlier, hearing them directly from Wilcher was quite shocking.
Now, reflecting on what Wilcher had said earlier, could it be true that Waldo would actually kill all those involved?
It was very likely!
After all, Waldo was known as the "Murderous King." If he got angry, a city-wide massacre wouldn’t be surprising!
At this thought, many felt a chill down their spines.
Then came a strong sense of relief.
Fortunately, they hadn’t gotten involved in this mess.
Seeing the expressions of the crowd, Wilcher let out a cold snort.
"Tonight is a turning point in the history of Dawn City. Many will lose their lives, including some prominent figures you are familiar with, who will disappear from this world. Meanwhile, Dawn City will be completely under Waldo’s control. I hope you understand the reality and have no ulterior motives. Later, follow my commands for all actions, understood?"
The others nodded hurriedly.
"Understood!"
Did they have a choice?
Of course not!
All they could do was to pledge absolute loyalty to Waldo.
As time passed by, a rare sunset appeared on the horizon. The red light spread across Dawn City like flowing water, painting the entire city in red hues. However, it didn’t bring any warmth to the cold city.
Soon, the sky turned dark. There were no stars or moon in the night sky, just pitch darkness. Cold winds were howling, making eerie and mournful sounds, as if someone was wailing in the dark night.
The chilly winds blew across an endless expanse of snowy plains, lifting countless snowflakes. The icy snowflakes pelted the faces, feeling as if they were being cut by a knife.
Before long, a heavy snowfall began. Some snowflakes were even the size of a palm. Shortly after, a thick layer of snow covered the recently cleared roads in Dawn City.
"Why has my eyelid been twitching? Is something going to happen?"
"What are you thinking? We are in Dawn City. What could happen here? Even if the sky falls, there are taller people to hold it up! Moreover, with Waldo here, the sky won’t fall."
"Do you guys know if there have been any rumors lately about Lord Duncan trying to seize power?"
"Shh! If you don’t have accurate information, don’t speak recklessly. It can easily get you into trouble! It’s all rumors anyway, don’t believe them blindly!"
"That’s true."
At this moment, many ordinary survivors were discussing. This evening, many people felt a strange unease, a very oppressive feeling. In fact, the only people who truly knew about Duncan and the others attempting a rebellion were Duncan’s confidantes.
The vast majority of ordinary survivors were not fully aware, only hearing a few whispers and rumors. Many people didn’t quite believe it, leading to the scene unfolding now.
At this moment, in a bullet production factory in Dawn City, one of Duncan’s trusted subordinates, Craig, had gathered nearly five hundred people.
Everyone listened, and as soon as I give the order later, you’ll take down all those who are watching us and head straight to the Lord’s Manor.
Once the operation succeeds, you’ll all be heroes. The Lord won’t mistreat you—all of you will be greatly rewarded!" Craig emphasized.
Afterward, he watched the time intently. Time was ticking away.
Soon, it would be eight o’clock.
At seven fifty!
At seven fifty-one!
At seven fifty-two!
At seven fifty-nine!
Ten, nine, eight, seven, three, two, one!!
"Let’s go!"
Craig shouted.
At the same time, he fired three shots into the sky.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Instantly, the sound of gunfire spread rapidly in the silent darkness, waking up many people.
Then, Craig strode forward, leading the charge out of the factory gates. Others followed closely behind!
However, just as Craig rushed out of the gate, he suddenly screamed in agony.
Ah!
Accompanying the scream was the dull sound of a heavy object striking.
Bang!
Subsequently, a figure was sent flying and crashed into the snow, falling flat on the ground.
"Craig, you have quite the audacity, plotting a rebellion. Are you seeking death?" Calvert leisurely appeared in front of everyone. Behind Calvert were numerous heavily armed soldiers, each exuding a fierce and vigilant aura, staring at Craig and his somewhat panicked subordinates.
Waldo had long anticipated this day. When the survivors from the three major alliances entered Dawn City, he had confiscated a large number of heavy weapons such as armored vehicles, howitzers, and rocket launchers.
He hadn’t even left them with machine guns or rifles. Each person had only a handgun or similar weapons left.
Therefore, facing Calvert and the heavily armed soldiers, these people were utterly bewildered. Wasn’t it said that they were unprepared? How could they explain the current situation? Did it look like they weren’t prepared? The weapons disparity was immense, how could they fight? They simply couldn’t!
Craig was both shocked and furious. He had never expected this turn of events. In disbelief, he roared, "How did you end up here? Do you know about our plan?"
Calvert sneered in disdain. "How did we know? We know every move you make! Drop all your weapons, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll spare your lives!"
As he spoke, Calvert’s gaze was sharp as it swept over each person. Many began to waver. Judging by their weapon equipment, they were at a significant disadvantage. Winning was simply impossible.
