Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 318: Encountering
Earlier, the reason Waldo wanted to remove the power of the leaders and controllers of the major alliances was that these people were not genuinely aligning with him. Moreover, they brought too many people, which necessitated some restrictions.
But now, there is no need to do so. On one hand, Stanley’s attitude is acceptable. On the other hand, Stanley’s strength is not too strong, and he doesn’t command too many people.
If he intends to plot something, he could be crushed effortlessly. Therefore, letting him manage his own six thousand people would actually reduce some trouble.
After saying this, Waldo thought for a moment and then added a sentence. "Snow beasts outside of Dawn City are quite active, so you need to be extra careful. However, there shouldn’t be a major problem. The snow beasts in activity usually act alone and don’t pose significant threats. If you really encounter a crisis you can’t handle, you can contact me."
For Waldo, this sentence was just a common and ordinary reminder. However, for Stanley, it sent shivers down his spine. He was so moved that he didn’t know what to say. In the end, he could only reply briefly, "Thank you for the reminder!"
Soon, the exchange between the two ended. Stanley, free of worries, stepped out of the makeshift tent and ordered the team to set out again towards Dawn City. Looking around, the ice field seemed endless, and the accumulated snow on the ground was of an unknown depth.
Fortunately, the weather was favorable at the moment, with no wind and no snow. In this Ice Age where there were storms about eighty percent of the time, this was indeed a rare occurrence.
"Set off! Move out!" Soon, the group of over six thousand people set off again. Due to Stanley’s repeated reminders, everyone was on high alert, anticipating any unexpected situations.
Stanley even dispatched two scout teams to scout ahead and act as the vanguard. They were essentially the advance force, with the main purpose of guarding against potential dangers.
It could be said that they proceeded very cautiously all the way. However, just after traveling through the snowy plain for a little over two hours, a scout returned to report the situation.
"Sir, we’ve found fresh snow beast footprints up ahead—likely made no more than half a day ago!"
"Snow beast footprints?" Stanley raised an eyebrow.
"Let’s try to avoid the areas where the snow beasts have been spotted. Additionally, instruct everyone to remain quiet—no talking, no firing, and no unnecessary noise!" Stanley was already being exceptionally cautious.
However, events did not unfold as desired. Not even an hour later, another scout found fresh snow beast footprints up ahead, possibly left there just half an hour ago.
Upon hearing this, Stanley’s expression turned grim. "Could it be that encountering a snow beast is unavoidable for us?"
Just as he was contemplating whether to halt everyone and take an alternative route, the scout communicating with him suddenly paled, and his voice became tense.
"Bad news, it’s a snow beast! We’ve encountered a snow beast!"
In an instant, the seven members of the vanguard team were on edge. The snow beast had appeared very suddenly, less than two hundred meters to their left.
Perhaps the snow beast had hidden exceptionally well. Its fur was pure white, perfectly blending with the snow’s color. If it laid flat on the snow and stayed still, it would indeed be challenging to spot.
The sudden appearance of the snow beast plunged everyone into despair. They were undoubtedly no match for the snow beast.
The only thing they could do was run. However, they were on a snowy plain, seemingly endless, with no place to hide. Perhaps, death was all that awaited them.
In an instant, the faces of the seven individuals were filled with the color of despair. Even though they knew from the beginning that being in the vanguard was highly dangerous and could lead to death, when death truly arrived, they realized how fearful, terrified, and reluctant they were.
"Run! It’s charging at us!"
"We’re finished, I’m going to die! Ahhhh, I don’t want to die!"
"Run! Run as fast as you can!"
"Sir, come save us! Sir!"
The seven immediately erupted into cries of despair, fleeing in a frenzy. Soon after, one after another, cries of agony resounded. In no time, the surroundings fell silent once again. Amidst the vast expanse of the snowy field, patches of it turned red from the spilled blood.
Stanley’s face darkened.
"Damn it! The snow beast has really appeared!"
The losses in the vanguard team infuriated Stanley, yet he felt helpless at the same time. He couldn’t just abandon the six thousand people and venture out alone to slay the snow beast and avenge the seven individuals. He immediately ordered everyone to take an alternative route, trying to move as far away as possible from the snow beast.
However, hopes are beautiful, but reality is unbearably cruel.
In less than half an hour later, they were once again attacked by the snow beast. This time, it was a massive snow beast standing at a towering three meters in height, comparable in size to an elephant.
However, compared to an elephant, the snow beast was not only faster but also immensely stronger. Most importantly, they were exceptionally ferocious.
The snow beast suddenly appeared from the side, charging into the ranks of the Moon Alliance at a lightning-fast speed. Panic spread among everyone. The snow beast, towering like a small mountain, rampaged through the crowd. Anyone accidentally hit by it was as if being struck by a high-speed truck, their bodies pulverized instantly.
"Ahhh!"
"Help me!"
The crowd erupted into chaos, a cacophony of screams and wails filling the air.
"Damn it!"
Stanley, along with two commanders beside him, had their expressions drastically change. Just as they were preparing to take action, a sudden loud rumble echoed in the distance.
Rumble!
Rumble!
It was as if the earth was trembling. In the distant snowfield, countless chunks of snow and mud were kicked up high into the air. A large group of snow beasts appeared from somewhere and charged toward the Moon Alliance’s group.
In an instant, all the survivors, including Stanley, had their faces turn pale.
"Not good, it’s a pack of snow beasts!"
"Damn it! Where did these snow beasts suddenly come from? How did so many of them appear all at once?!"
"We’re finished, completely finished! How do we deal with so many snow beasts?"
At this moment, everyone had only one thought in their minds: we’re doomed!
Stanley’s face had an unprecedentedly grim expression. The sudden appearance of the snow beast pack completely caught them off guard. They had no idea how many people would perish.
At this moment, his heart was bleeding.
Without much time to think, he shouted at the top of his lungs, using all his strength: "Everyone, don’t panic! Don’t act recklessly! Take out your weapons and aim them at the snow beasts!"
His voice was loud and resonant, quickly spreading across the snowfield.
After a brief moment of despair, everyone suddenly realized.
Right!
Although the snow beast pack was formidable, with their numbers, they still had a fighting chance.
Even though there might be significant casualties in the end, it was better than being disorganized and slaughtered by the snow beasts.
Soon, everyone regained their composure.
They retrieved armored vehicles, mortars, rocket launchers, and other weapons and equipment from their backpacks.
A massive amount of shells and missiles were showered upon the snow beast pack.
If they were unarmed, they wouldn’t stand a chance against the snow beasts. However, with their weaponry, they could still handle them.
The over six thousand people from the Moon Alliance simultaneously fired various types of shells and rockets, reaching a number in the thousands.
While the number of snow beasts exceeded thirty, under the deluge of so many projectiles, they were in great discomfort.
In an instant, the charging snow beasts were scattered by the torrent of projectiles. Many of the snow beasts had black smoke coming off their bodies, their fur charred and emitting a meaty aroma.
However, some snow beasts still broke into the formation.
In an instant, chaos ensued as people fought desperately to kill them.
In this battle, at least fifty or more individuals were estimated to have been killed. However, they managed to kill around twenty to thirty snow beasts.
"Haha, excellent! We got rid of the snow beasts! It seems snow beasts aren’t as formidable as we thought!"
"The main reason was our unity. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been this easy!"
The people were very excited, including Stanley. He hadn’t expected that they would deal with the snow beasts so easily. The snow beasts were exposed to them in advance and were at a considerable distance. With over six thousand people concentrating their fire, it was naturally easier to kill them.
However, before he could fully celebrate, another thunderous rumble filled the air.
In the distance, a large number of snow beasts were once again sprinting towards them. The quantity was even greater this time.
"Damn it! They’re coming again! Everyone, prepare for battle!"
Stanley shouted loudly.
However, just at that moment, his pupils suddenly contracted.
The two snow beasts at the forefront were significantly larger than the ordinary ones. Regular snow beasts were about the size of an African elephant, but the two leading snow beasts were almost the size of a truck.
Lord-level snow beasts!
Stanley took a sharp breath.
Lord-level snow beasts!
How could there be Lord-level snow beasts?!
Dealing with ordinary snow beasts was still manageable, but if there were Lord-level snow beasts, it would be an entirely different story.
Moreover, this time, two Lord-level snow beasts appeared directly.
Just at this moment, from other directions, there was suddenly a huge commotion.
"What?! Snow beasts are appearing here too?! Look, there are so many snow beasts! We’re surrounded by snow beasts! There are even Lord-level snow beasts! What should we do? Are we done for?!"
"Damn it, snow beasts are appearing on our side too, at least over thirty of them! Run!"
"Don’t run! We can’t escape. Our only chance of survival is to unite and deal with the snow beasts together! They’re coming from every direction!"
"From all sides! Snow beasts are everywhere! And the numbers are about thirty in each direction. Combined, it’s already over a hundred. And the number of Lord-level snow beasts is close to ten!"
The people were in a state of panic. Stanley was stunned by what he saw.
This... how?
How could they, with just these people, deal with so many snow beasts?
What to do? What to do?
He was in a state of panic. The sudden appearance of so many snow beasts basically sentenced them to death. Especially with those Lord-level snow beasts, it seemed almost hopeless!
What to do? What to do? What to do?
Just at this moment, Stanley’s eyes suddenly lit up as he thought of Waldo.
Yes, there’s Waldo. How could I have forgotten about him?
It was like grabbing a lifeline, and he immediately contacted Waldo.
In a call, he urgently shouted, "Come and save us! We’re under attack by over a hundred snow beasts, and there are even ten Lord-level snow beasts. We probably can’t hold on for long!"
Soon, he received a response from Waldo.
"I’ll come right away."
Stanley breathed a sigh of relief.
Then he shouted loudly, "Don’t panic, everyone! Spread out! Fight them with all you’ve got. We still have a chance! Otherwise, no one will make it out alive!"
"Just hold on a bit longer. Waldo will be here soon. Then, no matter how many snow beasts there are, it won’t be enough. Everyone can survive!"
