Chapter 378: Building walls

Soon, Wolf City announced that all survivors were to rise in rebellion and kill the lords of the cities who harbored hostility towards Dawn City and Waldo.

This announcement sent shockwaves throughout the survivor communities. Many individuals, eager to ensure their survival, began to consider their options.

In response, Dawn City’s official representatives made a statement. They pledged that no harm would come to the survivors of Wolf City.

To prevent such incidents from recurring, they gave a two-week deadline for all survivors of Wolf City to come to Dawn City for reassignment. Those who failed to comply would face the consequences.

The survivors who had initially been skeptical were relieved to see Dawn City follow through with its promise.

Throughout the following day, similar events took place all over the world. Lords and deputy lords of the opposing cities who hadn’t managed to escape were, for the most part, executed.

It was a gruesome massacre happening on a global scale. Those who had rebelled were recognized by Dawn City, which announced that their responsibilities would no longer be held against them. They were treated equally.

Survivors of these cities were also directed to leave their home cities and head to Dawn City, where they would follow Dawn City’s commands.

Some survivors began questioning why Dawn City wanted such an influx of people, as it was nearing a population of almost 500,000 residents, making it unable to accommodate everyone.

Currently, more than a million survivors were on their way to Dawn City. In the West region alone, survivors from over a dozen cities were en route, totaling almost 500,000 individuals. Combined with survivors from other areas, the numbers amounted to over a million.

It seemed like an enormous undertaking for Dawn City to manage so many newcomers. Some survivors couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. Perhaps Waldo was scheming something in the West?

Gradually, the survivors started to realize that there was more to the situation than met the eye.

Because there were too many people heading to Dawn City. Considering the current size of Dawn City, it was evidently unable to accommodate so many individuals.

Additionally, managing such a sudden influx of people presented its own set of challenges, including issues related to food, water, and sanitation.

Some began to realize that something significant might be happening, or that Waldo might be plotting something major. This could be linked to his recent disappearance.

Opinions varied greatly, but a commonly accepted viewpoint was that Waldo’s decision to gather so many people in Dawn City and expand it afterward had a specific purpose.

It wasn’t solely about gaining experience points or resources.

Everyone knew that Waldo had reached level 100 and no longer needed experience points. He wasn’t lacking in resources either. There had to be another motive.

As people speculated, Waldo had already left the West region. He toured the entire world, eliminating the stubborn leaders of cities that sought to oppose him. Afterward, he returned to Dawn City.

On this particular day, the weather was clear and sunny. It was the first time Waldo had seen the sun since emerging from the underwater world. The red sun from the ocean depths was discomforting, but the natural sunlight felt relaxing and free, symbolizing brightness.

When Waldo returned to Dawn City this time, he didn’t conceal his whereabouts. He landed directly at the city’s gates and casually surveyed the current state of Dawn City.

Compared to the initial sparse population, the city had become bustling, with people crowding the streets. Even the enormous city gate, which was over ten yards wide, was filled with an endless stream of people, making it quite crowded.

The massive turrets on the city’s towering walls, equipped with various formidable weapons, provided a sense of security for the inhabitants.

With more people, Dawn City was beginning to resemble a true metropolis, not too different from what it was before the calamity.

Waldo was quite satisfied with the development of Dawn City, but then he shook his head slightly.

However, it wasn’t enough. Dawn City still wasn’t strong enough to contend with the underwater world. I need survivors from all over the globe to gather in Dawn City to be able to face the underwater world head-on, Waldo thought. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Waldo’s presence drew more survivors to the city gates, and their emotions ran high. They cheered, rejoiced, and shouted Waldo’s name.

"Long live the city master!"

"The city master is invincible!"

Such cries echoed continuously. Waldo smiled faintly and soon returned to the city lord’s mansion.

In the evening, within the rooms of the city lord’s mansion, Waldo finished his intimate time with the two women and took out a map of the city walls.

The main god and the giant from the underwater world should be searching for a passage to the surface.

The survivors on their way would arrive soon. There was no time to waste. We need to build the city walls, Waldo thought. He had no more doubts.

He flew into the air, overlooking the vast snow-covered landscape. The snowfield stretched out to the distant mountain ranges on the edge. To the east lay the sea, which should be the passage to the underwater world. However, Waldo wasn’t sure if that was the only world passage.

Nonetheless, the city walls needed to be constructed. They needed to form a complete enclosure, otherwise, they might be breached by the underwater giants. Their technological strength might even surpass ours, and we must not underestimate them, Waldo thought.

Then, with a thought, he used the city wall blueprint he had kept. Construction began.

At this moment, it was deep into the night, with a starry sky that shimmered brilliantly, and an overwhelming silence enveloped everything.

Dawn City was quiet, and most of its residents had already drifted into dreams. Only the high-ranking members of Dawn City had received some information, so they didn’t sleep. They gathered in high places within the city, gazing into the distance, awaiting something.

Suddenly, with the issuance of Waldo’s city construction orders, thunderclouds converged in the sky, and a deafening thunderclap resounded.

Everyone was startled. Simultaneously, dense fog shrouded the land in all directions, as if the whole world was engulfed in thick mist. Dawn City, too, found itself in a misty realm.

"Building walls? The scale of this wall is so massive?" They even appeared in the sky above?

The people’s faces displayed a mixture of surprise and horror. Thunderclouds in the sky here were larger than those that had appeared to the east over the sea, and the colors of lightning were more diverse.

The scene was more terrifying.

Meanwhile, the dense fog that surrounded them emanated an incessant cacophony of loud rumbling, explosions, and the sounds of mechanical operation.

These sounds persisted until daybreak. When all the survivors awakened from their slumber and ventured outside, they lifted their eyes to witness the colossal thunderstorm phenomenon in the sky. Their faces wore expressions of bewilderment.

When they stepped beyond the city’s confines and observed the boundless fog enveloping Dawn City in the distance, their astonishment knew no bounds.
