Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 386: Grim reception from the missiles
Waldo speculated that this time, the undersea world had mustered a substantial army.
Therefore, he planned to present them with a grand gift after all the sea giants had appeared and initiate a total annihilation.
Not long after, Waldo received news once again. The sea giants were gathering along the coast, with more and more giants emerging from the water.
"Patience was key!"
Waldo reminded everyone not to act hastily. However, at this moment, both the inner and outer cities of Dawn City had prepared hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles. With just a word from Waldo, they could obliterate everything in their path.
The sea giant army was led by four demigods, divided into four legions, each consisting of over 120,000 sea giants.
Among them, 30,000 were mechanized giants, and 90,000 were genetically modified giants. The majority of them were sky-level giants, with only a few falling below that level, and a handful of immensely powerful sun-level giants.
Four legions!
If Waldo didn’t reach level one hundred and didn’t gather all the survivors together, each of these legions would have the power to sweep across the globe. No one could withstand such a formidable army.
The sea giants spent a day transporting two complete legions to the coast. Upon arriving at the coast, the legions did not immediately launch a global assault. Instead, they sent out groups of giants to gather intelligence in various directions.
Simultaneously, they started constructing fortifications and buildings right at the coastline, indicating that they intended to secure their position.
Then, darkness fell.
"Why had the light disappeared? "
"Where was the sun?"
"What was happening?"
Everyone quickly looked to the sky, it was so beautiful.
Night had fallen.
Many giants were witnessing the night for the first time and found it quite astonishing. After the initial confusion, they quickly adapted and were in awe of the sparkling Milky Way.
Billions of stars adorned the sky, their light converging across thousands of miles, casting a radiant glow over the vast snowy landscape.
This scene was something the sea giants had never encountered before, and it left them deeply moved.
In this world, they felt overwhelmed by its mystery and vastness, far surpassing their underwater world.
They were determined to conquer this world and, once they had done so, leave behind their barren and confined underwater realm.
The sea giants were swift builders, and by the time the first rays of dawn appeared on the horizon, their base had taken shape.
The sea giants excelled in construction, and their bases were well-built. The following day, the remaining two legions also landed on the coast.
The freezing winds howled in this Ice Age, with temperatures regularly dropping to fifty or sixty degrees below zero.
In this age, there were hardly any plants left to survive. However, the low temperatures posed no challenge to the giants due to their formidable physiques.
Their incredibly strong bodies radiated intense heat, akin to giant furnaces. In the radius of over ten kilometers around the giant legion, even the accumulated snow began to melt.
The four demigods, the second general, the fourth general, the fifth general, and the tenth general, all took flight into the sky to observe the giants as they fervently built their bases.
"Our progress is impressive, and in no more than three days, we’ll have constructed a steel fortress of war! From here, we will expand our dominion to the entire surface world until we have complete control!" one of the generals exclaimed.
"Ha ha ha! Although we say that, we mustn’t underestimate the strength of the surface world, and the enigmatic presence of the surface humans is quite formidable!" another general added.
"Fear not. The world portal is constantly strengthening and stabilizing. It won’t be long before the Supreme Deity can descend into the surface world. At that time, all our enemies will be vanquished!"
"Of course, the Supreme Deity will dominate the heavens and the earth; that’s only natural!"
The four Supreme Deities were in high spirits. When they saw the completion of the steel fortress, they breathed a sigh of relief.
Before their base was fully constructed, what they feared most was the possibility of the surface humans leading a sudden attack with their massive army.
Their own army of five hundred thousand had not yet fully adapted to this new world, and they would likely suffer heavy losses in a surprise attack.
Fortunately, the surface humans did not appear, and this allowed their army to pass through the most dangerous phase. As the base became fortified, it would become an impregnable stronghold. Even if the enigmatic surface humans did appear, they would likely be powerless.
Next, all they needed to do was wait for the Supreme Deity’s arrival, and they would have successfully completed their mission. The four demigods communicated with each other, their moods cheerful. The recent period of gloom had vanished.
Just then, almost simultaneously, they all received a message.
"Report, esteemed leaders, we’ve discovered a massive city ahead! And just now, we observed numerous streaks of light in the sky, which is quite alarming!"
The message came from an elder they had dispatched to gather information.
"A massive city? Streaks of light?" The leaders were puzzled, unable to ask for more details.
Suddenly, they looked up at the distant sky. Their perception was exceptionally keen, and they spotted dozens of high-speed flying dragons in the high altitude, heading in their direction.
"Is this the streaks of light?" one of them wondered. "No, something’s not right. They’re coming towards us!"
"Run! These are technological weapons of this world!"
"Damn it, what kind of weapons are these? Where are they from? And how did they locate our position?"
The four Supreme Deities’ faces suddenly turned pale. They couldn’t fathom what kind of weapons these were.
In the underwater world, there was no concept of navigation, let alone the notion of ballistic missiles. After all, the underwater world was a small and confined realm. Their living environment destined them to be incapable of developing such weapons.
As soon as they realized that these were weapons of the surface humans, the four Supreme Deities shouted without hesitation. Their voices roared like a tide, warning the giants to evade the missile attacks. However, they had realized it too late.
To evade? It was impossible.
Boom!
The first missile struck, and in an instant, a small mushroom cloud appeared. Endless flames rapidly spread, and the shockwave rampaged mercilessly.
The steel fortress the giants had constructed just moments ago crumbled like tofu, fragile and easily destroyed under the impact of the missiles.
City walls, barracks, roads – all disintegrated in the terrifying explosions. Steel twisted, stones flew, and military camps collapsed. Countless giants were engulfed by the flames produced by the explosion, while more were tossed away by the immense shockwaves.
Fortunately, their bodies were extraordinarily robust, as if they were forged from steel. If it were ordinary survivors, their bodies would likely be torn apart, and they would meet a gruesome end on the spot.
But was this the end? No!
This was just the beginning!
