Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 400: A risky plan
In this battle, the casualties were reported. The commander of the Fifth Legion spoke solemnly.
"Reporting, my lord. The First Legion has suffered 3,781 fatalities, with over 8,000 severely wounded and an additional 20,000 wounded. Among the deceased, 1,000 were mechanical giants."
"The Second Legion recorded 5,621 fatalities, including 1,000 mechanical giants. There were 15,000 severely wounded or incapacitated. The remaining wounded, nearly 30,000, can still participate in combat at any time."
"The Third Legion’s total casualties amount to 30,000."
"The Fourth Legion suffered 4,000 deaths, and 8,621 wounded."
The commanders of each legion reported in succession, their voices trembling slightly. After just the first battle, their losses were already so severe, and it was undoubtedly a significant defeat.
As they heard each legion commander report the casualties of their respective forces, the expressions of the several demigods grew increasingly grim. The casualties were excessively heavy.
Over 50,000 had died in combat, and more than 100,000 had been severely wounded, losing their combat capabilities and requiring immediate treatment. Otherwise, their injuries might deteriorate and lead to more casualties.
The number of other injured personnel was beyond calculation. In just one battle, they had lost nearly one-fifth of their forces. On top of that, they had suffered long-range missile attacks during their approach to Dawn City, resulting in losses of over 200,000.
Dawn City had yet to be captured, and the massive casualties were deeply unsettling to them.
"Damn it, those weapons firing laser beams are too terrifying! Despite our anticipation, we still underestimated the power of that weapon! If it weren’t for that laser cannon, our losses would certainly not have been so terrible! We might have even taken Dawn City already! It’s truly maddening!"
"Despicable! We must flatten Dawn City and completely conquer this world. Make those ants pay tenfold or even a hundredfold! The four demigods spoke with cold and angry voices." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The legion commanders present had dark and troubled expressions. If they didn’t find a way to counter the laser cannons, there was no way they could enter Dawn City.
A forced assault would only result in heavy casualties, with little to show for it. Without the laser cannons and city walls, they could have easily slaughtered the people of Dawn City with just a hundred thousand men.
"Dawn City truly lived up to its reputation as the world’s top city, fortified like a tortoise shell. If the people of Dawn City remained inside and didn’t come out, their giant army would likely have no way to deal with it."
"However, they couldn’t wait for the arrival of the primary gods. They had to capture Dawn City before that, or the primary gods would never let them off the hook."
The Second Legion, wearing a gloomy expression, shook their head. They were already on probation. If they led a million-strong army, failed to take Dawn City, and suffered heavy losses, it was possible that the Mountain Lord God, in a fit of rage, might just execute them.
Therefore, they had to take Dawn City before the primary gods arrived. However, this led to concerns among the demigods.
"But do we have any way to breach Dawn City? They have laser cannons. No matter how many of us there are, we’ll just be offering ourselves as targets. It’s impossible to get close to them! Merely relying on attrition won’t work!"
"Who said we need to rely on a human wave strategy?" The Second General shook their head slowly, their face gloomy. After hesitating for a moment, they seemed to make a significant decision:
"We four will act directly! Rally all the Red Sun-class elites, and at the fastest speed, we will infiltrate Dawn City! Since human wave tactics won’t work, we’ll rely on a small, elite force to forcefully break through and enter Dawn City. Using ordinary giants as a shield, the four of us, leading numerous Red Sun-class giants, will make a breakthrough into Dawn City. At that point, Dawn City will naturally fall to us!"
However, as soon as the Second General’s words fell, they faced opposition from the other two demigods:
"No, it’s too risky! Dawn City has strong individuals inside. Don’t forget, Waldo is in Dawn City! Do you think you can match up to Waldo, Second General?"
"Exactly, even if we break into Dawn City, what’s the point? The moment Waldo shows up, he can suppress us at any time, and many elites may be killed. It’s not worth the risk!"
The two of them strongly opposed the idea. Waldo’s strength was evident to everyone. He was incredibly powerful. If they rushed into Dawn City, it wouldn’t be long before they were crushed to bits by Waldo.
"Why be afraid? We have so many people. What can Waldo do to us? As long as the four of us are careful, we can easily hold off Waldo. The rest can completely destroy the living forces inside Dawn City! Our million-strong army just needs to enter Dawn City as soon as possible, and once Dawn City falls, it’s a done deal! Waldo is powerless. Then, all we need to do is hold out until the primary gods arrive, and Waldo is as good as dead!" The Second General proclaimed loudly.
As they debated with the other two demigods, the Second General was eager to take the risk, but the other two demigods disagreed vehemently. The risk was just too great.
"No, we need to find another way. I’d rather wait for the primary gods to arrive," someone insisted with a shake of their head, letting out a cold snort.
Locking eyes with the other two demigods, the Second General seemed to burn with fiery determination.
In the corner, the legion commanders remained silent, afraid to intervene. If they accidentally angered any of the demigods, their positions as legion commanders were undoubtedly at risk. With bad luck, they might even be killed outright.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the Fifth General remained silent, seemingly lost in thought. Suddenly, they opened their eyes wide, and a glimmer of insight appeared in their deep gaze.
"Hmm?"
The Second General and others couldn’t help but turn their gaze toward the Fifth General.
With a glint of determination in their eyes, the Fifth General spoke up, "I believe the Second General’s proposal is feasible!"
This statement was met with displeasure from the other two demigods.
They had thought that the Fifth General, after careful consideration, would oppose the Second General’s proposal.
Instead, it seemed the Fifth General was also willing to take the big risk and stake their life on it.
