Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 432: Catching off guard
"No wonder everyone says that cities are forbidden zones, best not to enter them, or else it’s almost certain death!" Waldo thought to himself. However, although the monsters in the cities were powerful, there was no need to worry too much at the moment.
It seemed that the cities were under some kind of restriction set by the supreme rulers, preventing the monsters from leaving.
Sigh!
In the darkness, with howling winds, Waldo sped across the wasteland. With each stride, he covered a considerable distance.
For an average trial participant, twenty kilometers would take at least half an hour, but Waldo reached the area of Alfred’s address in just five minutes.
From a distance, with his extraordinary vision, he could see the lone single-story safe house on the wasteland.
"So, this is the place," Waldo sneered. The next moment, he vanished, entering a state of invisibility. Once invisible, even other powerful trial participants would find it difficult to detect him.
Previously, the Shadow Clan’s Ulva could sense his presence due to her extraordinary talents, but she couldn’t pinpoint his exact location.
Quickly, while invisible, Waldo reached the safe house. The door was tightly closed. "This can’t stop me!" he sneered. Then, with a teleport, he entered the safe house directly. His teleportation ability, also at full level, allowed him to move as he wished, even through the walls of the safe house.
Over these days, Waldo had learned a lot about this world and clearly understood how to utilize his abilities in the dark lands.
Inside the safe house, there were five people: four men and one woman. Apart from the woman, who was a normal human, the others were somewhat peculiar in appearance.
One had horns like a beastman, another was short-statured like a dwarf from the legends, and another was handsome with pointed ears, seemingly related to elves, or at least half-elf.
"So many different races!" Waldo was slightly surprised. He had never seen so many different races before and felt like he was broadening his horizons.
But it made sense, considering the supreme rulers governed countless timelines and realms, with innumerable races and tribes. It was reasonable for trial participants to come from different backgrounds.
In the safe house, the five had weak auras, all trying to keep their voices low.
"Has he really come?"
"Yes, he’s on his way. Normally, it would take half an hour, but I suspect that after learning about our weakened state, he won’t be willing to trade with us normally."
Alfred sneered, "I seriously suspect that this Waldo is now hastening to get here to check our situation. Once he finds out how weak we are, he might directly attack and try to steal our super Source stones."
Hearing this, the others nodded, expressions of coldness and killing intent emerging on their faces.
Alfred added, "So, everyone, be alert. We can’t all stay inside the house. If he tries to escape, he might manage to get away. We need two people to ambush outside and block his retreat when he shows up."
Everyone agreed with this and began to assign tasks. Three, including Alfred, stayed inside the safe house, while two others left to find hidden spots outside. This way, they had effectively set up a trap. Once their prey entered, escape would be nearly impossible, leaving it at their mercy.
Waldo, overhearing their plan, chuckled inwardly. If it were an ordinary trial participant entering their trap, death would be certain.
But they were facing him, and with that thought, Waldo decided not to waste any more time. Since these people planned to attack and rob him, he would strike first!
"Alright, let’s get into positions quickly," Alfred instructed. "Waldo will be here soon!" However, he was cut off mid-sentence, as if something had abruptly choked him, rendering him nearly voiceless. His face stiffened, eyes wide open like a startled bull, fixated on something in front of him.
"Alfred, what’s—" the only woman began, but before she could finish her question, a red spear, appearing out of nowhere, pierced her body. Instantly, a terrifying flame erupted from within her, bursting outward like a spectacular firework, dazzling and radiant.
A look of confusion flashed in her eyes. In the next moment, her body was consumed by the flames, reducing to ashes in an instant. A life extinguished in a blink of an eye!
Within the blossoming flames, a tall figure with a continuous sneer appeared, coldly surveying the astonished and shocked crowd.
"What’s the matter? Don’t recognize me?" Waldo sneered, his murderous aura tangible, rampaging wildly. "Just a moment ago, you were discussing how to deal with me. Surely you haven’t forgotten about me already?"
As he spoke, Waldo’s actions didn’t cease. His eyes deepened, becoming like bottomless abysses, emanating an incredibly terrifying allure. Simultaneously, a mysterious and indescribable power burst forth from him, appearing like chains of rules in everyone’s sight.
"No good!" "Damn it, it’s Waldo!" "How did he appear in the safe house? Why is he here so soon?" "Foolish! One man dares to challenge us all, it’s like hitting a stone with an egg, overestimating himself! To death with him!"
At this moment, the crowd finally recovered from their initial shock. From surprise, their emotions rapidly shifted to fury.
Although they didn’t understand how Waldo arrived so quickly or how he managed to enter their safe house undetected, they didn’t dwell on it. It was simple; all of them were trial participants, each possessing unique abilities. Waldo must have some special ability that enabled him to arrive quickly and enter the safe house silently.
But now that he had exposed himself, surrounded by the remaining four, he was on a path to certain death! "Kill!" Alfred bellowed, his voice thundering and shattering the darkness. "Kill him and seize the super Source stones!"
The four didn’t hesitate to use all their might, ready for a battle to the death. However, just as they were about to make their move, their expressions subtly changed, swiftly turning into terror!
