Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 453: Forgetting and Reminding
Simultaneously, the three erupted with energy. Their bronze bodies displayed the force of their blood and energy, quickly covered by a layer of dense, dark scales, giving an impression of invincibility. At the same time, they each brandished a massive axe, three feet long and of unknown weight, exuding a sense of immense heaviness, like three ferocious beasts.
However, their faces suddenly showed rare signs of terror. In that instant, they felt an intense crisis. Their skin prickled painfully, and their hearts thudded violently – a situation they had never encountered before. This indicated that the assailant attacking them was so powerful that they surpassed them and could indeed kill them!
Without hesitation, they roared furiously, axes roaring like beasts, shaking the heavens and earth as they struck towards the direction of the impending threat.
At this moment, Waldo was already close by. His speed was incredibly fast, like a meteor crashing down. His long spear, unstoppable and razor-sharp, seemed to pierce through anything. When his spear entered the special energy field, the overwhelming force it carried was absorbed and dissolved, and Waldo’s speed was momentarily halted.
"An energy field? Defensive in nature? Interesting! But it’s of no use against me. Break!" Waldo shouted, thunder bursting forth. Even more immense energy erupted, shaking the space filled with the mysterious force. Soon, the special defensive energy field created by the trio could no longer hold and shattered violently.
With a series of spluttering sounds, the three were severely injured, their faces filled with fear and pallor. Furthermore, blood oozed from the third eye on their foreheads, forcing them to close it as they screamed in agony.
This was their first crisis since entering the dark realm, and the greatest life-and-death threat they had ever faced in their lives. They could feel their hearts contracting sharply, as if they would burst the next moment. Despite this, they spared o effort and swung their massive axes at Waldo, who was now within striking distance."
"Kill! Die! Go to die!!!" they roared loudly. As their axes cut through the air, they whipped up a frenzy of energy, turning the air pitch black. The axe shadows, emanating a terrifying aura as if they could split mountains and rivers, seemed to make even gods and demons tremble in fear. However, when these three axes met Waldo’s spear, the situation changed drastically. Waldo’s spear, like a dragon, effortlessly shattered the axe illusions.
With a thunderous explosion, the spear struck the axes, blasting the wielders backward as if struck by lightning. They were flung away like cannonballs, crashing heavily to the ground.
"Be careful, this man is terrifying!"
"Damn it, who are you to attack us! We will fight you to the death!" The remaining two glared in rage. But Waldo gave them no chance to react. His spear, moving rapidly, could even catch bullets between his fingers. At full power, he could thrust his spear eight to ten times in a single second – an unimaginable speed.
As a result, after knocking down one, Waldo’s spear struck again without pause, giving the others no time to react. Their fate was predictable. Both screamed in agony, struck as if by lightning. The force on Waldo’s spear was tremendously heavy, easily overwhelming the three three-eyed natives.
"Damn, who are you, and why are you attacking us?"
"Curse you!" Struggling, the three stood up from the ground.
Desperately gathering their scattered and chaotic power, they were wary of Waldo’s every move. At the same time, they were overwhelmed with shock and disbelief. They had never encountered such a formidable enemy in the dark realm. Feeling aggrieved, they were at a loss as to why Waldo had attacked them without any provocation.
"Who am I? I’m just an ordinary trial participant," came a calm yet cold voice from a distance. The figure, enshrouded in an endless murderous aura, twisted their vision, making it impossible to see clearly. But they heard every word clearly.
"A trial participant? You must be lying! How can there be such a powerful participant in the dark realm?" All three widened their eyes in disbelief, their worldviews completely overturned.
"Don’t believe me?" the shadow, wrapped in a crimson aura, loomed like a terrifying god of slaughter, with mountains of corpses and rivers of blood at his feet. With each step he took, their hearts constricted, and the temperature around them plummeted, their blood beginning to stagnate.
Waldo’s voice was icy as he continued, "You three seem to have forgotten something important. Not long ago, you were all boasting about finding me, defeating me, even killing me. How quickly you’ve forgotten!"
As if struck by lightning, their minds buzzed with confusion. Gradually, Waldo’s figure became clearer. His handsome, cold face now fully visible.
"It’s you, Waldo!" they exclaimed in disbelief. "How could this be? Why are you so terrifyingly powerful? Weren’t you just an ordinary level-two participant? Your recent strength... It’s impossible! How could you have become so much more powerful in such a short time?"
After a brief moment of shock, they couldn’t help but exclaim, their minds severely shaken.
"Are we going to die? His power is overwhelming, and knowing we sought to kill him, he won’t let us off. What should we do?" The three tribesmen exchanged looks of despair.
"Run? Do we even stand a chance to escape? Under his absolute strength, there’s no way we can flee from Waldo’s grasp. What are we to do?"
"What else can we do? We fight!" The tribesmen of the Three-Eyed race have always been proud. Every member of their race, even those from the side branches, would never bow or plead for mercy to anyone. Their bloodline’s inherent nobility and pride wouldn’t allow them to grovel or live a life of cowardice. Rather than that, they would prefer a decisive battle to the death. They would rather die than dishonor their tribe.
So, with determination, they prepared for a final stand. After a mutual glance, they erupted with the last of their strength. Their bodies, bronze-colored, shone with a dark light, looking like gods descending upon the earth. The next moment, an ancient aura enveloped them, and their third eyes, previously injured by Waldo, reopened, shining brightly with a silver glow. Wherever their gaze fell, it brought a bone-chilling coldness.
"Kill!" they roared in unison, their voices merging like thunderous explosions.
"Waldo scoffed at their futile effort, easily overshadowing their cries. ’Ignorant tribesmen, thinking you can act recklessly just because you’re a bit stronger than the rest. Choosing to mess with me? Be more careful in your next life. Some people aren’t meant to be trifled with by mere insects like you. You can’t bear the consequences; there’s only death awaiting you!’"
As his words ended, Waldo also moved. He became a blur, dodging three terrifying beams of silver light that carried an aura of destruction. The area where he had been seemed to be pierced through by these beams, leaving a burnt smell in the air.
"What? He dodged it?" The tribesmen’s expressions changed drastically.
"This is their innate ability, a destructive beam powered at the cost of their own life force, capable of killing or at least severely injuring opponents stronger than themselves. A desperate move, seldom used unless absolutely necessary, as it inflicts great self-harm. Typically, no one could dodge such a swift attack."
"But where’s Waldo? How did he vanish so suddenly?"
The tribesmen turned pale, realizing the severity of the situation.
"Heh, you thought this would hurt me? I anticipated your final move. To think you could harm or even kill me? Wishful thinking!" Waldo’s chilling voice echoed in the darkness, its source indiscernible, resonating like a voice from a deep valley.
Panic-stricken, the tribesmen searched frantically but couldn’t find any trace of Waldo. Even with their third eye’s ability to see through illusions, they found nothing.
"In your invisible state, you’ve essentially stepped into a mysterious parallel dimension. It’s time for you, the Three-Eyed tribesmen, to face your end! This is the consequence of provoking me. Not only you, but your kin must pay the price!"
Waldo’s thunderous voice filled the air. As a trial participant, he was a natural enemy of the Three-Eyed tribe.
Suddenly, the tribesmen sensed impending doom, as if death itself had descended upon them. Just as one of them cried out, his voice abruptly stopped. A spear materialized out of nowhere, piercing his heart.
Boom! The robust body exploded under the immense force, turning into a shower of blood.
"No! Waldo, you’ll pay for this!" The remaining two screamed in rage. But the next moment, with a disdainful snort from Waldo, their heads burst open as if struck by a massive hammer, leaving no chance for survival.
In the dark, the wind howled menacingly. The scent of blood spread far and wide across the barren land, carried by the gusts. The scene was a chaotic hell, with blood and severed limbs scattered everywhere. "Me, dead? So many have wished for that, but who are you to talk?" Waldo sneered coldly. "At least you won’t be lonely on your way to hell. You should thank me." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
After scavenging the three tribesmen, Waldo found a pleasant surprise - seven super Source stones. The amount startled him, but it made sense considering their strength and the prey they had hunted. "With these seven stones, plus the nine I already have, that’s sixteen in total," Waldo thought. He could ascend to a third-level trial participant anytime, but he wasn’t in a hurry. The more super Source stones he used, the higher his conversion rate to an indestructible body, enhancing his strength further.
"As of now, I am invincible in this dark realm, except for the terrifying creatures in the Abandoned City. Other trial participants and tribesmen are no match for me," Waldo mused. He planned to gather more super Source stones without rushing to level up.
After ensuring he hadn’t missed anything, Waldo stored the super Source stones in his backpack and left the scene. "It’s been a few days since I left the safe house. I wonder if Tristan is still alive."
Waldo hadn’t left much behind in terms of resources. He never anticipated what would happen next or that he’d be away for so long. Theoretically, Tristan should be dead by now, given the relentless drain of their strength in the dark realm.
But practically, if Tristan wasn’t foolish, he would have sought out supplies. The area near the safe house was relatively safe. If he looked carefully, finding a few supply caches wouldn’t be hard. Starving to death? Only if he was incredibly unlucky.
