Chapter 479: Even a level four must die
Alfred had lost his mind. Even if he hadn’t completely gone insane, he was very close to it. The revelation of Waldo’s true power had dealt him an unimaginable blow. The thought that Waldo might have achieved perfect transformation into an undying body had shattered his pride and confidence in an instant. It felt as if something within him had collapsed entirely at that moment, leaving him dispirited and utterly cold.
Seeing Alfred’s state, Waldo knew that he was finished. Alfred had lost his will to fight and was as good as dead. To Waldo, Alfred no longer posed any threat.
However, even if Alfred had retained a strong and unbreakable will, it wouldn’t have mattered. His strength had been thoroughly crushed by Waldo. His body and internal organs had been brutally damaged. Now, Alfred was nothing but a broken man. No matter how strong his fighting spirit, he couldn’t exert any of his powers.
"When you decided to take action against me, you should have thought about the possible consequences," Waldo sneered. "I kindly warned you not to provoke me, or the consequences would be severe. You didn’t listen, and now it’s too late for regrets."
Waldo walked out of the inferno, his pace slow but firm. Each step he took seemed to weigh heavily on Alfred’s heart.
As Waldo approached, Alfred’s face grew paler, and his body couldn’t remain upright. Crushed by an invisible force, he knelt on the ground.
"To say you’re foolish is an understatement, considering you reached level 4 and became the first level 4 challenger in the Dark Land. But to call you wise would be a mistake, as you foolishly underestimated your own limits!" Waldo’s words were like the final nails in Alfred’s coffin, sealing his fate.
"I’ve been exposed for so long, yet the Three-Eyed Natives never showed up. Did you ever wonder why?" Waldo’s voice was cold and calm as he slowly spoke. Each word resonated in Alfred’s mind like thunder, exploding like a series of lightning strikes.
The Three-Eyed Natives are missing? Killed by Waldo? A level 3 challenger managed to kill two level 4 Three-Eyed Natives? In that instant, Alfred’s worldview was shattered by this unprecedented shock. Today, he encountered too many inconceivable and shocking things from Waldo, things he had never experienced in his past.
As his mind reeled in shock, Alfred’s situation became increasingly dire. The invisible force emanating from Waldo made even breathing difficult for him. Suddenly, unable to bear the pressure, Alfred collapsed to the ground.
"No!" Alfred realized the imminent danger as he saw Waldo approaching. He tried to shout something, but his voice was abruptly cut off. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Thud! Waldo’s foot came down. A seemingly ordinary step caused the earth to quake and the sky to crack. Alfred’s head and upper body were instantly reduced to mush. The only level 4 challenger, dead.
"It’s over. Those who needed to be killed, I’ve killed. Those who came to kill me, I’ve killed them too." At that moment, Waldo felt an invincible sensation, as if he was unmatched in the world. Though he wasn’t lost in arrogance, there was a distinct sense of pride.
Then, Waldo shook his head, coming back to his senses.
"Can’t relax yet, the real crisis hasn’t been resolved. The master of those Three-Eyed Natives seems not easy to deal with..." Waldo raised his head, looking into the endless darkness above. The vast expanse of the sky, in its profound depth, seemed to hide an immense eye, observing everything happening in the Dark Lands.
It was clear that this was the gaze of a supreme ruler, overseeing everything. Nothing could escape his scrutiny...
Meanwhile, a system announcement sent shockwaves across all the challengers:
[The only level 4 challenger, Alfred, is dead!]
The news of Alfred’s death struck like thunder, exploding amidst the thousands of challengers.
"Alfred is dead?"
"What happened? How could this be? He was the only level 4 challenger, how could he possibly die?"
"Could it be he encountered the level 4 Three-Eyed Natives? Only they could have killed him!"
"That’s possible. The Three-Eyed Natives were probably also looking for Waldo and encountered Alfred. But still, Alfred was a level 4 challenger. Shouldn’t he have been able to escape?"
As challengers speculated in confusion and disbelief, Waldo made an appearance, speaking arrogantly, "Whoever dares to trouble me, just look at Alfred and those two Three-Eyed Natives. That’s the fate waiting for you!"
At first, people were puzzled by his words. What fate? They knew about Alfred’s death, but what about the Three-Eyed Natives? Many were confused, but then some began to grasp the meaning behind Waldo’s words.
"The meaning of Waldo’s words is that those two Three-Eyed Natives, like Alfred, are also dead?" The challenger who guessed this outcome couldn’t help but shiver, their mind thundering. Their first instinct was disbelief. It seemed too surreal!
If Alfred’s death at the hands of the Three-Eyed Natives was plausible, then what about the seemingly invincible Bone and Sword, the two level 4 Three-Eyed Natives? Who could possibly kill them? All the challengers in the Dark Lands combined wouldn’t be enough to take down those two.
"This doesn’t add up; something is off. Maybe I need to shift my perspective," a challenger thought to themselves. They felt as if their consideration of the problem wasn’t thorough enough, as if something was amiss. Clearly, the situation wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
As they delved deeper into their thoughts, a terrifying possibility emerged. "Waldo killed Alfred, and he even killed Bone and Sword, the two level 4 Three-Eyed Natives?!" It was absurd. Too absurd. A level 3 challenger couldn’t possibly kill a level 4, let alone two level 4 Three-Eyed Natives.
It was a frightening thought. The challengers who considered this possibility desperately shook their heads, trying to dismiss this unlikely conjecture. Yet, this speculation clung to them stubbornly, impossible to discard.
Trialers take a deep breath, carefully analyzing the causes and consequences of the events, deducing one hypothesis after another.
