Apocalypse: My Items Can Upgrade Infinitely
Chapter 73 - 70: Killing Zergs, Decisiveness, Black Spine Zergs Attack
Lin Feng leaned against the guardrail with great interest, watching the frightened crowd and the tense Jiang Yun’er.
A beautiful woman killing bugs live on stream—her heaving chest and the specter of death intertwined to create an absurd, surrealist beauty.
A soldier to the side also held a gun, remaining vigilant. The moment a Red-Armored Beetle got close, he would decisively open fire and eliminate it.
Jiang Yun’er took a deep breath. The Zergs she had killed before were all purchased from the front lines through various channels. Their sharp six legs and pincers had been severed, and their bodies were bound so tightly they couldn’t move. There was no danger at all.
After killing nearly thirty Zergs and being enhanced seven times, Jiang Yun’er’s personal wealth and connections were no longer enough to support her.
But she had already prematurely awakened a Spiritual Superpower, one that was a perfect fit for her career as an actress and celebrity.
Jiang Yun’er hid this Superpower from everyone. She knew very well how rare Spiritual Superpowers were, and of course, no one would suspect a prodigiously talented actress of having an early Awakening.
’But I can’t completely control how this power radiates from me. Before I’m exposed, I have to complete my full Awakening as quickly as possible and master Mind Control.’
’Otherwise, I don’t want to be sent to the Research Institute, having my blood drawn by those freaks for all sorts of tests and experiments.’
’And because of how strange this ability is, even with my connections, the big shots at that level would definitely see me as a threat.’
’They’d avoid me like the plague.’
Therefore, in order to complete her Awakening as quickly as possible through legitimate means, Jiang Yun’er had volunteered for this promotional filming mission announced by the higher-ups.
Originally, she could have chosen a city near the Federal Capital, which was her home base. She wouldn’t have been in such a passive position as she was now.
But to prevent her ability from being exposed after her Awakening, Jiang Yun’er had taken a risk and come to Jiangnan Province, where the Thirteenth Division was stationed.
At first, she simply believed that as the only place officially promoted for its victorious stand against the Zerg Race, it should at least have some guarantee of safety.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.
At this moment, she held a large-caliber rifle. Although her base stats were poor, making her a notch weaker than others who had been enhanced seven times, she still possessed a Physique three times that of an ordinary person. She raised the rifle, aimed, and fired, all in one smooth motion.
With dozens of crisp POPs from the silenced muzzle, a dozen or so Red-Armored Beetles fell to the ground.
Not only was everyone present greatly shocked, but even Lin Feng was a little surprised.
’I didn’t expect the seemingly delicate Jiang Yun’er to have a side like this.’
But he didn’t know that the pressure Jiang Yun’er was under was far more complex than a simple Zerg attack.
If she couldn’t complete her full Awakening this time and gain full control over her Superpower, what awaited her was confinement and experimentation, never to see the light of day.
She couldn’t afford to be merciful.
Having clawed her way up from an unknown starlet to a top international superstar, Jiang Yun’er, if not ruthless, was at least absolutely decisive.
Seeing that no more Red-Armored Beetles were crawling out of this Wormhole, Jiang Yun’er raised her rifle, played to the camera, and with a calm and composed expression, looked at the soldier beside her and delivered her line:
"Kill Zergs, get enhanced. It’s that easy. Now, let’s go deal with the next Wormhole."
The soldier glanced at her, nodded, and led the group over the protective barrier to the other side.
Jiang Yun’er lifted her long legs and easily stepped over the one-meter-high guardrail. She felt a warm current flowing through her, suffusing every corner of her body and strengthening her Physique and Spirit.
Her Superpower was growing stronger.
She glanced at Lin Feng beside her, her eyes filled with confidence and a hint of provocation.
Lin Feng smiled faintly and said softly:
"I hope your acting is still this on point when we run into Black Spine Zergs."
The confident smile on Jiang Yun’er’s face froze. After hearing the soldier’s urging, her expression returned to normal as she headed to the next Wormhole.
Lin Feng watched her walk away, her shapely rear swaying, and shook his head.
Just then, two jeeps pulled up beside him.
Cheng Zhan rolled down the window:
"Looks like our big star doesn’t need your extra protection. She thinks she can handle it on her own."
Lin Feng shrugged and looked toward Jiang Yun’er:
"Red-Armored Beetles aren’t even considered Tier One Zerg Race. They’re just some low-level, insignificant bugs. If someone who’s been enhanced seven times and is holding a large-caliber rifle can’t deal with them easily, then there’s no point in filming this propaganda piece."
With that, Lin Feng turned his gaze back to the jeep:
"Are you getting ready to leave?"
Cheng Zhan nodded, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag.
"That’s right. It’s about time."
"We’ll be heading out with you shortly. You’ll be responsible for luring the patrolling Black Spine Zerg Swarm away. Our two vehicles will look for a chance to charge into the heart of Zerg territory."
"We’ve looked at the internal intel. As their territory expands, the Mother Empress has already moved out of the Hai City District. She’s hiding in the soil of the suburbs, where there are also signs of Tier Two Zerg Race activity—Tiger Spine Zergs."
Lin Feng hummed in acknowledgment and leaned against the car door:
"Good luck, then."
"As long as there are no more than thirty Black Spine Zergs, I can guarantee I’ll take care of every last one. I absolutely will not expose your position."
With the moment at hand, Cheng Zhan didn’t waste time with sentimental remarks. They had a slim chance of survival on this mission.
But to grow stronger, they were ready to face death.
He clapped Lin Feng on the shoulder one last time:
"Thanks."
"This reconnaissance mission was issued by the Research Institute. It’s for the future of all humanity. If there are any new discoveries or progress, you’ll have a share of the credit."
Lin Feng nodded, watching the jeeps drive away.
Then he looked at the two soldiers who had stayed behind. They were only Tier One Early Stage, one Level 11 and one Level 12. They wouldn’t be much use against a large Swarm of Black Spine Zergs.
They might have been left behind to look after Jiang Yun’er, but it was more likely to ensure the mission proceeded smoothly and to prevent anyone from deserting.
Lin Feng shook his head and returned to the RV.
Inside, Chen Yanyan had already prepared the ten blocks of yellow TNT explosive, fitting each with a detonator cap and wiring them together in parallel.
This would allow for a simultaneous, instantaneous detonation.
If the placement points were spread out, the combined force would be enough to kill every Life Form within a hundred-meter radius—an area larger than a standard soccer field.
It could kill or severely injure four to five hundred Black Spine Zergs.
This was the source of Lin Feng’s confidence in taking on this mission.
Moreover, this time, he not only wanted to severely injure that many Zergs, but he also planned to stay behind and finish them off one by one to accumulate enough Evolution Points for his Level 17 Grenade Cannon and the RV.
Chen Yanyan looked at the safety instructions in her hand, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and sighed in relief.
Lin Feng went over and gave her a kiss, his eyes shining as he looked at the coil of wire dozens of meters long and the signal receiver at its end.
It was even remotely controlled. All they had to do was remove the safety, get a few hundred meters away, and press the red button on the Detonator. The Black Spine Zergs would be like ants on a hot pan, blown to pieces.
Soon, outside, Jiang Yun’er completed her ninth enhancement.
Her Superpower, after two minor boosts, could now even slightly affect the Tier One Awakening Early Stage soldiers around her.
As long as someone felt desire for her, this Spiritual-type control Superpower would not only enhance her charm—making others see her through a built-in beauty filter—but would also deepen her Mind Control ability.
Feeling the changes within her, Jiang Yun’er grew even more expectant of her final, complete Tier One Awakening.
’As long as I can complete this evolution, I’ll be able to hide my Superpower, manipulate people’s hearts, and bide my time.’
’And achieve my ambitions.’
Finally, at Jiang Yun’er’s firm insistence...
The convoy resumed its journey, heading slowly deeper into Zerg territory.
Soon, about three kilometers past the Red-Armored Beetle activity zone, the group encountered a patrol of twenty-two Black Spine Zergs.
They were already blocking the highway!
They had smelled the distress signal sent out by the Red-Armored Beetles and had come specifically to investigate.
The two jeeps in the front immediately threw back the tarps on their roofs, revealing the large-muzzled Machine Cannons. A wild RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT of gunfire tore an opening through the middle of the Black Spine Zerg Swarm.
Seeing this, Chen Yanyan immediately activated the machine gun on the roof, spraying the Black Spine Zerg Swarm to coordinate with the jeeps and break the Zergs’ formation.
Under the high-intensity output of heavy firepower, seven or eight of the Black Spine Zergs were instantly killed, and the jeeps successfully broke through their blockade.
Without looking back, they sped east toward the highway tollbooth. Beyond that lay the suburbs of Hai City, the location of the Zerg Nest.
By now, Lin Feng had already gone up to the second floor of the armored RV. Standing below the observation deck, he raised his Level 17 Grenade Cannon, aimed it at the remaining Black Spine Zergs ahead, and let loose a barrage.
One shot could take out a single Zerg. With 150 Damage and a ten-meter effective blast radius, sometimes one shot could even take out two injured Black Spine Zergs.
Just as Lin Feng was happily reaping the rewards, Jiang Yun’er and her film crew rushed from the van behind them to the front of the vehicle:
"Wait, leave one for me—"
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed, and he snapped back sharply:
"Are you crazy?! Do you have a death wish?!"
