Chapter 109: Do You Know How to Ride a Horse?

There were five C-Rank Knights stationed at the gate, strictly monitoring the citizens entering and exiting the city.

They wore a Rare rank steel armor, covering their whole body from head to toe, including their eyes.

They only carried their one-hand shield, while their offensive equipment was stored in their storage ring.

Max glanced at them and perceived their immense aura. If they fought together alone against him, he’d definitely struggle...

Of course, his assumption was based on the idea of not summoning his radiant knights and just fought against them like he was still an Arcane Caster.

His Radiant Knights were on an entire different level.

He wouldn’t be surprised that his two Radiant Vanguard alone could defeat the five C-rank Knights.

That was how confident he was.

As though sensing his notions, the horses felt even more arrogant to the C-rank Knights, who at first were humbled by their aura alone.

They didn’t came by themselves, they had a powerful owner who fought a lot of powerful demons with them.

Hence, when it was their turn, they snorted, releasing a smoke from their nostrils while casting a condescending glance at the C-rank Knights, dumbfounding them.

They stared at the horses with disbelief before sweeping their gaze at their owner.

They were intimidated by his aura.

Although he appeared not handsome and barely had features that conveyed a noble characteristics, his equipment set expressed an unordinary status.

For some reason, they felt a desire to greet him with a bow.

After a momentary of hesitation, they bowed simultaneously and greeted him.

"Greetings, Sir!"

"Mhm. Greetings." Max nodded, a bit surprised of their attitude towards him.

The leader of the knights straightened his back and asked politely, "Sir, we are only following the procedures of allowing others to enter."

Max raised his eyebrows. "Do I look like others to you?"

The leader of the knights were startled.

But he was used to being pressured by the nobles in the past, so he immediately regained his composure. "No, Sir. But we need a document that verified your identification, so we can include you on the list on entering the city.

It is to constantly monitor the amount of individuals staying in the city and their purpose."

Max was silent for a while, giving the knights a sense of apprehension.

Finally, he moved his hand and shoved it into his pocket. He had the inventory summoned the Lieutenant’s Endorsement Letter, containing the Imperial Recognition he received after completing the local village quest.

He pulled his hands and had the knights wondered what was in his grasp.

He used the lightweave threads to float the letters to the knights, who failed to sense the lightweave threads due to how thin and imperceptible they were.

If only they had the mana sensitivity like mages, they would have sense it.

The leader of the knights received the letter and saw an imperial crest as a stamp.

He knew that only high-ranking individuals possessed the power to rip it and read open the letter.

The leader of the knights bowed and didn’t pursue the matter.

But, he asked, "Are you planning to meet with the Governor?"

Max thought for a while and nodded.

The leader of the knights’ expression lowered with shame. "Unfortunately, the Governor is very busy that he strictly instructed us not to disturb him, even stating that only the Emperor and his family’s visit could interrupt him.

However, for this matter, I suggest to meet with the Imperial Captain Draven."

Max nodded. He really had no idea how to proceed except visiting the administrative office for inquiries.

Since the knight himself suggested, he could give it a try.

Max swept his gaze on them and said, "My name is Maximus Grant. I still don’t have an identification document. I’ll register myself inside. Can I borrow one of you? I’m new to this place."

The leader of the knights instantly bowed and turned towards his subordinate.

He introduced it to him. "This is Leo, Sir. Our newly Imperial Recruit. He was born and raised in Dunmarrow City, so he’s definitely the perfect job to be at your service."

Max nodded.

Although Leo’s contribution rank was far higher than him, as he wasn’t even recognized as the registered citizen of the Empire, Max’s lofty attitude didn’t change at all.

He glanced at Leo, who was a bit tense, and said, "Do you know how to ride a horse?"

The C-rank knights were speechless. Every knight knew how to ride a horse.

To be questioned by a surface level knowledge indeed exposed Max’s lack of knowledge not only in the capital city but the whole Empire.

If it wasn’t because of the runes planted in the body of the horses and the aura of a mage with light affinity he radiated, they would have suspected him.

Leo immediately bowed and replied, "Yes, Sir. I do know how to ride a horse."

Max smiled and glanced at his other empty horse, the female one.

He could perceive how displease she was to ride a stranger again and was dumbfounded by how arrogant she had become.

Max could only dismiss the thought in his mind.

He said, "Then, ride this one."

Leo glanced at the horse he pointed at and was dumbstruck.

The female horse gazed at him with condescending gaze and he felt his pride was shattered.

He turned towards the leader of the knights who didn’t bother meeting his gaze.

He coughed. "Leo, I hope you can lead the way for sir. Please don’t disappoint me."

Leo continued to stare at their leader in disbelief.

Pressed by the time, he didn’t have a choice but to stare at the horse and slowly walked towards her.

When he arrived beside her, the horse suddenly stomped her right leg and released a sharp, forceful exhale of air through her nose, startling Leo.

Leo hastily glanced at his subordinates who were equally shocked as him.

They finally realized now what Max meant from his question.

They certainly could ride a horse, but if he was asking a horse like his, then they couldn’t ride it...
